He was a complete rageaholic retard, he was actually nicknamed after Michael Rooker's character from Days of Thunder (Rowdy). And he quite literally raced himself to death, he kept racing through severe illness and ignored pneumonia until it turned into sepsis and killed him.

Brilliantly skilled racer though.
I was not a fan but he kind of reminds me of someone like Pete Rose. Rose was an ass at times, but when he was on the field he was there to win and would flat run over you at the plate if you stood between him and a win.

Gavin was able to know these facts before AI future FoH posters.

Insane that he was still active through all that. I had nasty flu years ago. Not near death, but so sick there were days I couldn't leave the bed. This guy was on the verge of death and still racing.

Septic pneumonia seems more like a symptom than a disease. Kind of like saying someone died of heart failure. I wonder if there's some underlying thing they're not saying.

Drivers are always coming down with somthing. Lot of stress being in the hot car for hours not moving, getting dehydrated etc...I know they have cool suits on and such but I don't think it's what we would call cool. Plus most drivers race one or two races a weekend. He raced all 3 every time he could which was most. Lot of stress and he wasn't 18 anymore.

We'll see. Could have been something else and he just ignored any medical advice to keep racing. I do wonder if nascar and teams learned their lesson leaking that Tim Richmond had aids.

iirc, dale jr said he would loose up to 15+lbs per race. with the cool tech and hydration system normal to still loose around 8-10.

I'm sure he was on some drug cocktail to suppress his symptoms, since he was still functional while dying. He should have been in a hospital bed.

other than getting a shot of sinus pain on the 10th from the track doctor, not seen anything about him getting professional care. guess he was just taking otc stuff.

Not unheard of. P Diddy's ex-wife died from pneumonia and it wasn't a particularly complicated case. Just died randomly with no real indication besides being under the weather for awhile. Gotta stay on top of your health.

She probably had baby oil in her lungs.

I do think they should do more thorough autopsies when someone dies suddenly from pneumonia at a young age.

There are still question marks surrounding Brittany Murphy's death for similar reasons. Every pneumonia cause of death feels like a partial answer without investigating the contributing factors, but I guess it really can suddenly just end in one big attack when someone has been just feeling "unwell" for a while.

And then her husband Simon Monjack's death a few months later. Phoned in "pneumonia heart attack" cause of death, with no consideration for aggravating factors given Brittany had just died months earlier from the same condition. Often seems like you are only getting half an answer.

That is exactly what happens - people ignore warning signs or think it is something mild, until it isn't. Especially if you have compounding factors that can make it worse. The younger you are, the more likely this is to be the case as well. "Young people aren't supposed to die from X" is exactly why young people can end up dying from X - even doctors can have this bias.
