Reading about his death made me want to revisit the collections of posts on a survival forum of the dude who lived through the Siege of Sarajevo. Looks like he wrote a few books about it too (LINK). Wonder if it rehashes the posts he made or if it goes into other things.

I researched it a bit a while back and iirc his first book is considered a really good/useful read and the rest are just him grasping at straws to make a buck.

I had the original Optimus. RIP. The trailer for that was strange. It had some shit inside of it but I certainly never used it. Pretty sure the cartoon didn't use it either.

I'm pretty sure Transformers were more expensive than G.I. Joe when I was a kid, so I was kind of forced into going the G.I. Joe route.

However Transformers was part of my after school cartoon line up, so learning he died is still a punch in the feels.

RIP

Ya the trailer had like a crane that didn’t work or something? I barely remember that part of the toy because I never used it either

My parents gave away my Transformer toys when I was a kid because I got guilted into giving them permission to give them away by like 4 adults lol

How many shallow graves did their bodies end up in?

Transformers was a genius idea for a toy targeted at boys- robots that could become vehicles/weapons was exactly the kind of thing boys imagine. Hell, we could pickup a stick pretend it was a sword. The fact that they managed to bring that idea to life with hands-on toys was pretty impressive. Hell, the movie Big (with Tom Hanks) even poked fun with the Robots that turned into buildings being a worthless idea. LOL

My dad always reminds me of the movie came out. I must've been around 5 or so and he heard some "things" about it being upsetting to kids, so he went by himself to see how it was. When Optimus died he said it was an entire theater of kids that started scream crying all at once in unison as their childhood was crushed and stripped away.

He got it on vhs for me and let me watch it hoping I'd be OK. The scene happens and I walk into the kitchen where he is with tears in my eyes and smashed my Optimus toy on the ground screaming about how they killed him.

Absolute bozo move by the toy company, as we learned later it was a marketing move for new toys in the series.

RIP again Optimus

My Mom always bought knock-off toys. I had Tycos instead of Legos (she still calls all Legos "Tycos") and Go-Bots instead of Transformers.

We were definitely poor so didn't get a lot but transformers was my one big thing. Everything else was fake GI Joe's and off brand Legos
