Incidentally, to follow up onthis post...
In the end, I did send the console to Nintendo to get it repaired. It turns out that they were, in fact, willing to repair it for free, since the problem actuallywastheir fault. A software update they released caused many consoles to lose all functionality, so they did take responsibility for it in the end. Of course, it did take several phone calls before that came up as a possibility, and there were further delays caused by their recent outsourcing of their repair department to another company (preventing status updates from ever appearing). It worked out for the best, though, as I'm enjoying the shit out of Mario Maker and I finally get to catch up on Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and a couple of others. I'm glad Nintendo fixed the console for free, but annoyed that they did their best to keep that possibility a secret.

i'm sorta tempted, maybe the SSB/Splatoon bundle for $200-220 and I already own mk8, DKTF, Mario 3D, and a few other games digitally (but no wii u right now) but there's literally only going to be maybe 1 or 2 games I will ever buy on the platform ever again - xenoblade, maybe Zelda U. Probably smarter just waiting to see what they announce for the NX in terms of backwards compatibility and launch window.
