I never really cared about max settings much. If I could get 6 years of a decent frame rate at not max settings, I'd be happy.

I just know that if I buy a PC with 8 gigs of RAM, suddenly everything will require 32 gigs a year later and I'll be pissed.
Well your almost at the time for refresh I would wait to Sept with Haswell going in June and the 780 already out some good deals on last gen hardware are going to pop up don't worry about ram its cheap as fuck right now long you dont go for the shit that made for OC'n.

As I am about to buy a new desktop. Wait until June. Nvidia just announced the 700 series, which is supposed to be hitting the shelves in June. The new consoles both have 8GB system RAM. So basically the 600 series (I'm going for the 680 GTX probably) is going to drop in price significantly shortly. As well as being much more powerful than the next console generation.

This should help you out too if you're unfamiliar:

Wow, thanks for that!

If I were to go for the $800 range, I wonder if I'd be okay for the next 5 years with minor upgrades?

If your going for gaming your budget should be GPU>CPU>RAM>MOBO if you can reuse case, psu, OS and Hard drives you should be good..You can also get can get some extra by doing some minor OC'n(please do some research on Over clock'n if you havent done it before.)

Also if you can also get know to some builders they often sell there old stuff for dirt cheap as I just sold 3 x 6970 for $300,

Wish I would have waited for the 780 but I didn't I got my panties ol hot and bothered I bought one then said fuck it and bought 2 more. Last refresh was less but it goes between 3k to 5k.

Honestly I think I'm more worried about buying a new PC, and then not being able to upgrade the thing because all the new shit uses new sockets and ports and direct x. That's mostly what happened to me.

Don't feel too bad. I bought Rdram way back when for my super awesome EQ machine.

is the stress test really over after just a few hours?

now that i'm old and have enough money to buy whatever the fuck i want, I find I rarely play games anymore - 100+ games on steam I have never installed, my new pc is a baller but it just browses reddit and plays netflix. the comics are right, god is an asshole; you should be born old and die as a baby.

I guess the only thing you've missed out on (if you didn't get an invite for the stresstest) is a better chance for the next cb phase, but that's about it.

Stress Test Part One: The Stressening is over for the weekend
Sucks. I get home from work just now hoping to try it out for a couple hours....but no, it seems things blew up and they called it quits. Now it will be my luck that since I was unable to login during this aborted stress test that they won't get me into the next closed beta phase. Fml.

That's an insane amount of cash to drop on vid cards and a processor though. I have a 2600k Sandy Bridge and a 680GTX and this setup runs every game out there maxed and will probably last another year or 2 before I even think about upgrading. I can see dropping the cash on a setup like that if your using a 3 monitor setup, 3d vision and or extreme resolutions. 1920x1080 is fine for me though. If you got the cash why not....

All that to play the same games rehashed over and over again? Why?

That's not near enough people at all. You need enough people so that the population on the forums is large enough so that one group of neckbeards doesn't out talk the rest of the sane people.

Using random numbers, if you invite 100k people a small percent of people won't even get the invite, will miss it, not care, or whatever, let's call it 5%. A huge percentage of people, let's say 50% will only play the game and not participate on the forums at all but will fill out bug reports in game and populate the game enough to internal data can be collected efficiently.

That leaves around 45-40% of the playerbase that know the forums exist. Now, cut that in half for the people who play the beta long enough to actually understand the game or care. Then take 30% of those people as the people who are NOT lurkers.

Mathmathmath

That's like 10% of your tester base actually participating in forum discussion of any substance that you can make serious design decisions on.

Anyway, these design concepts like easy/hard respecs have been done every which way in the industry that I have no idea how the developers are even considering this seriously. I mean, just look at fucking history.
Instead of making up numbers, you could use this forum as a precedent and then your post would be far more legit...

Active lurkers vs. posters.

Fucking clickers. I swear to god I will never post a video on any of my websites that shows a fucking clicker playing an MMORPG. What a bunch of assholes.

STOP CLICKING ON SHIT ON YOUR HOTBAR. FUCK YOU.
If the trade-off is good commentary for clicking, it's worth it.
