No, I get it. You have to hang your hat on something. It's just been amusing to watch you all from the sidelines as you build your hopes up over hype videos.

I've been guilty of it myself, we all have. GW2 was my holy grail, and it actually was a good game for the most part. Disappointing in the long term but still better than most.

Anyways, I don't want to rain on your parade. I really do hope the game is good for you all. God knows we've had too many crap mmo releases, somebody has to break the chain.
Pot/Kettle much broski?

You've done the same thing with Camelot Unchained, but then come in here to make fun of people for it?

Jokes.

Anyway, the whole point of my post was to be weary about giving into the hype train, thats all.
What's the deal with people big brothering up the forums lately?

This isn't news to anyone...

The last two pages:STOP LIKING THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE

Who cares, let people get hype, waste their money, and complain about it if that is what they want to do.

Back on the hype train: Massively posted an article with mostly information we already know; but apparently jumping is also momentum based, and there are certain abilities that reset momentum as well. Kinda neat!
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05...r-to-move-you/

Jumping is a bit more complex and momentum-based. Players will be able to make a second jump at any point during the first jump, but momentum plays a role. Jumping off a cliff and trying to reset your momentum by jumping again just before you hit the ground will result in your slightly slowing your fall before you smack into the ground. Jumping straight forward and then making your second jump to the right will result in your arcing at a diagonal path rather than changing your direction completely. Some movement abilities can be used in the air to reduce or eliminate your existing momentum, however.

Got your jimmies rustled?

I guess you missed the part in the SECOND line where I said I was guilty of it myself. Read the whole thing before responding next time.

Really... this is entertainment. If you aren't entertained, then don't follow it. If you are? Then it is doing the job it is supposed to do. This -looks- interesting from a gameplay standpoint, which is where I find my meat and potatoes when it comes to gaming. Derivative of previous games? Well yeah. Progression and refinement from those games? Also a yeah. Worth my long term time investment? The world is a much different place from when EQ had sole possession of the gaming space, and with so many options it is pretty silly to limit yourself to just investing in one game forever. I just hope it is as fun as it looks. As I am definitely in this for the fun first, ball-busting-accomplishment feeling second.

This game is starting to remind me of rift. Nobody seems to know it exists in my wow/gw2/diablo/swtor/etc circle jerk of friends. Tossed it on our fb group page and only one person didnt respond with a "looks like a cheap wow clone." Same thing happened to rift but I managed to get the nutty race to level cap on 3 classes and quit folks in it.

Game is still somewhat far from release I think, it'll grow most likely. Hell grow or not, don't really fucking care, if the game is good that's all that matters and people will switch if it is.

I heard the name WoW a lot but never even bothered researching it because the server consensus during the Alpha was 'game looks retarded'. Then I said fuck it one day when I was bored, signed up and got into Beta... So hey, it survived the few shitty abstract PCGamer articles and early alpha shots looking like a shitty cartoon game.

Plus Web 2.0 and social media didn't really exist at the time in its modern form.

These two dudes did an interview with Jeremy Gaffney (the exec producer at Carbine)...interview starts around 41:25

http://www.twitch.tv/weekingeek/b/401781209

He talks a little bit about how they want people to play how they want to play - which of course every mmo ever says as well. Some of these we already know of, but even more talk of playerhousing and examples of the settlers building up a town. Which, he said in about two weeks they will reveal a bit more about the Settler. Anyways, I wrote up a small thing so you don't have to watch it if you don't want.

Also, Raid Trophies for your home!
Talk of playerhousing starts around44:30
There seems to be a group or a faction named the Protostar who are like the car salesmen of the universe, where at level 6 will start selling you a housing plot. They have lore to themselves as well, such as how they starting ripping land out of the ground and putting it in the sky to sell even more, which it turns out they sell some nasty lands that are full of trees and monsters that you have to clear yourself to basically earn your own land. I'm not sure if all, but they one they talked of in the video, the particular land they sell you was a pet cemetery so ghosts will start popping up and trying to kill you for being on their land. When actual building on the plot of land starts happening, settlers will get extra stuff since it is their role.

Some decorations and things you can put on your land is tradeable, some aren't. Certain items, like if you were to go to a raid and kill a boss and get the head, you can take it and put it on your wall as a trophy.(fucking awesome!)

Talk of towns/settlers + housing starts around47:00
You can walk around a town as a settler and if/when you see stuff that needs fixing, you can go and fix it up. They aren't quest, they are just options that you can help out if you choose to want to influence the town. Once you gain enough resources and(i assume)reputation around the area, you can start building bigger stuff than just fixing a broken farm fence in the town. You can build up new shops, new quest hubs, and a few other things. You basically can upgrade a town for everyone to experience even more content!

Talk of raids starts around50:40
They want to have some smaller sized raids, so people that are in smaller guilds still have content to do, but at the same time they like big raids, so they are putting in big raids.(not really new info). But the combat in the raids with telegraphs or animations of monsters about to launch an attack have so far been more fun for them with more players because they have given more tools to coordinate by what seems certain classes. For example, a healer can put an orb or a circle on the ground that will offer heals if you stand in it, so you could have your offtank tanking in the circles, as the rest of the raid is avoiding the telegraphs from the boss.

Talk of things to do in zones/combat starts around53:20
They want a ton of monster variety, telegraph variety. Killing 10 of the same mob in a row can get boring pretty quick. Add in the paths - which supposedly paths have about 25% of content in given areas. Add in some more to that - challenges. Things like killing mobs fast and you may get little mini missions to go kill stuff even faster and faster that you will get rewarded if you can complete the challenges. Discoveries as well after that, where randomly through the world you may see a broken piece of something sticking out of the ground, you go check it out and yay! Discovering things. However, sometimes the discoveries have even more in them, like monsters or dungeons. All of these are what their "layer content" is all about pretty much, and they're all available to you at any time, you just have to go check some things out it seems and not only stay on the road! It's a way to discover areas in different ways each time you go through basically.

Talk of Warplots around55:45
There WILL be matchmaking and there will be premade matches, which will be cross-server. They are aiming for it to be another hardcore feature where you really have to earn yourself before the first time you're able to do a warplot. For the start at least, overtime they plan on making it easier to get into but it may not be the kindest to casuals who want to PvP in the beginning.

I read that discussion, it sounds interesting. I think it might polarize people though...from those who live for the BiS who will probably hate he system, and those that usually go by in other MMO by never managing to get BiS but still have good gear, I think those will enjoy the system more.

We still need to see how it plays out in reality. I could see being frustrating if you never find items with optimal stats and have replace the chips all the time, although if you manage to get the chips from other items at a good rate...it might be ok.

I read the beginning, got pissy, wrote a couple paragraphs, then went back to reference things for my shit-fit and found myself pacified by the rest of the comments. I do see a lot of room for error as I despise every random stat system I've come across, but mention of limited allocation of random (ala D3 legendaries) and fused stats where randomness comes in relevant groupings was basically what my writeup consisted of.

I am still against a plethora of too-strong secondary stats and I'm not sure where they'll fall in that regard. I'd rather value another class's primary stats at a slightly lower level than my own rather than eschew it completely in favor of a bunch of armor pen/haste/crit/etc. All secondary stats should be derivative of primary stats to begin with to migrate some of the interest. So rather than going for block value and armor pen I can go for strength which grants both, or instead of stacking haste and parry I can go for dex which grants both. If I only need one of those stats then it should be more efficient to go for the secondary stat by itself. Like 40 dex is worth +25 haste and +25 parry in derivatives and +40 haste as item budget.

In total I appreciate that they're trying to give structure to randomness like WoW BC's random suffixes as opposed to vanilla's (the ancient vs. the boar), but there isn't enough information to pass judgement.

The random is probably going to work like Diablo how people grind gear for the "perfect" roll.
This. It really will keep raiders raiding for a longer period of time, not forever, but longer.

Though I could see a small problem where the main tank gets a shiny new chest piece, then next week does the same zone and gets the same chest piece with better stats, leaving the off tank in his shitty gear. Guess it'll depend how that whole system will be set up from the raiding and guild perspectives.

I like the idea of it but if it is implemented like Diablo III then I'll just hate it. Too many random stats that can make an item completely worthless. If its 'kinda' random would be better, which is what that thread makes it sound like.

Gear not having predetermined stats and relying on best roll like d3 is the worse thing ive heard from this game thus far. That inside raids would be enough to kill off all consideration really.
