I think they are better off just removing them from arena and raids(its fine for the 40vs40 warplots and open world pvp). If they don't the masses(from hardcore to casuals) will cry that they are "Forced" to choose x to be the best healer/tank/dps or y to be viable in pvp and it will all just be nerfed to the ground. If I had my way I would leave it and say hey "you choose, and deal with the consequences".

I dunno. Maybe I'm being a bit alarmist for no reason, but it's only because something they said that I really liked seems to be untrue. I can't remember which video it was, but the guy providing commentary made a very specific point to say 'paths aren't about combat/killing MOBs, that's what your class is for'. Then they put in combat abilities based on path? Just a bit disappointed is all.

Adding bonuses at all for careers on your characters abilities seems like it would be risky from the very start, especially with how much they are spouting about how you can do your own thing and still be viable at your class kind of stuff. I would assume that this would be addressed pretty early but you never know, someone always finds a way to exploit these small bonuses somewhere.

Just started reading up on this game, and the more I do, the more I like it over TESO.

Most of those abilities are AOEs that affect the whole party. So why does it matter?

Yeah it is a bit strange that they put abilities Thant could affect your decision about which path to play when they are so focused on choosing to play the way you want to.

There is so many things we still don't though. Number wise these abilities might not be so powerful compared to regular abilities. The shield sounds powerful, but aren't we supposed to be dodging most of the damage anyways...so it's not a straight 25% if you avoid most of the damage during the duration of the ability.

The last part I am not certain about but we have a limited action set...not sure if class abilities and path abilities go on the same bar or if it's just for class, but if they go on the same bar it means that you give up one of your class ability to out the path ability...what kind of trade off are we talking about?

Hopefully beta feedback will fix any case of an ability influencing your choice of paths.

Everything they say and plan looks really good, and I like how they are open about it. My main concern is that they underestimate the amount of whine they will face and that they will crack under the pressure and diminish their own game in a futile attempt to appeal to more players ("nerf it to casual" like blizzard does).

Path abilities look just like WoW racials back in 2004. Mostly negligible, a few stand-outs. Sure right now we dont know enough to judge them, but "wait until its live and see if it is a problem" is not the answer, because alpha and real betas are exactly the time you ask and solve those questions in order to release a complete and finished product. It's their job to decide if they want it to be useless fluff or meaningful abilities. And if it is the latter and that means a die-hard minmaxer has to play a certain race/class/path mix then they have to say deal with it to those people loud and clear. The last thing I want is a team like the D3 one that is so paralyzed and indecisive that they poll the forums on what to implement to turn their turd around.

TLDR: I hope the devs know what kind of game they want to make and stick to it.

For balance issues, the easiest way to implement path abilities is to make all of the abilities out of combat skills. Things that make the players life easier but do not effect their combat prowess at all.

If they want to keep out-of-class combat abilities, they should make them available to all paths (but not necessarily all classes). You could arrange them in linked tiers. So in order to equip a tier 3 skill you need the previous two tiers of that same type. But still limit each player to three skills total. You purchase the skills using quest points you earn through your path activities.

Essentially there should only be a single choice that dictates what combat abilities are available to your character and that is class selection. Every other system should differ to a players class, when these situations come up.

The discussion going on right now with Path abilities is why NDA's are stupid. There are always leaks and people copy and pasting abilities. All it does is create panic where there might not be if we realized the context and the discussion that is going on in beta.

I think just not being able to use them in raids would be best. In an instance? Fine. In the world? Fine. Pvp? Maybe, depends. Might need to be restricted like raids.

I've been reading their "Path abilities discussion" and it's like everyone's forced into mandatory bland discussions. And you can't even mention anything about beta or leaks otherwise the Trust Police bans you. Leaks who are as confidential as running a 0.12s google search. It's like pretending they don't exist. On Internet. It's like running a little North Korea forum community where you can pretend things don't exist and can't talk about them. On the other hand I don't see the NDA living for long now, I think they'll drop it as soon as they're donne announcing classes and races.

I think they will lift their NDA after E3. From everything we have seen, we know there is a game that is playable right now, and from the people who played it at PAX and from the leaks, it seems they all enjoy it.

The NDA for them is really for marketing purpose, they want exclusive for the big sites, this is the only way to get media coverage from sites like IGN, gamespot etc...

Give a big push at E3, keep some of your features out of the beta like (crafting, elder advancement, warplots, etc...) and offer them as exclusive before patching them into beta.

Right now to be honest, the most damaging thing for the game is gameplay video by the horrible players, the comments I've seen on various forums and youtube about how bad and boring the combat looks is really negative.

They need to fix that soon.

I get the idea of NDA but at this point it is literally 100% unavoidable no matter what you do. However wanting only people in beta to discuss the beta is understandable so you don't get a huge flow of people whining about abilities out of context, like Abefroman said.

I can't see the NDA being on much longer either.

Is Carbine even going to E3? I just searched around the E3 site and got nothing for Carbine, NCSoft, or Wildstar. I was under the impression that E3 was shrinking and nowhere near what it used to be.

I think they mentioned somewhere that there would be some huge reveal at E3.

I didn't see them either at the E3 site though.

I'd personally be surprised if they didn't do at least something during E3 as Carbine is going to be revving up their hype engine pretty soon. But if they are not at E3, they will most definitely be at PAX Prime in August.

This. I bet they will be making a giant push at Prime. E3 is mostly meh these days, but PAX is where you get all the people playing your game.

Sweet. I found a beta invite in my spam folder today on Gmail that was sent on the 22nd. It's for a stress test event...that started and ended already. Dammit.
