I'm quite amused when I see people here breaching NDA by making not so subtle implications about them being in the beta or their beta experience. Oh, I don't give a damn about NDA, therefore you know why I'm amused ? Because some of them are using the same forum name here and on beta forums. The same forum fucking name both on rerolled and on official Closed Beta Wildstar forums. Which means if any single fuck is given by anyone, you'll lose your beta account just because some low level rat reported you out of jealousy, anger, or for the lulz with a nice screenshot and link.

You're trying to be smart by saying-or-not-saying-you're-in-the-beta-or-not like you're in some wiseguys movie, well then it's time to act wise : change your fucking forum name. I generally don't give a fuck about NDA, but we were asked here to not produce NDA content for obvious reasons and some people are trying to get around by acting like criminal masterminds. If you're too dumb to understand simple rules like forum names, I'd suggest you refrain from breaching NDA and stop acting like you're an Original Villain.
Really hope nobody signs up on a message board somewhere with your name and posts NDA leaks then reports it. Since that is the amount of proof you require for guilt.

t's a fucking NDA for a video game, just relax. You're acting like this is fucking wikileaks or something.

Yeah I'm sorry if my tone was out of place, I blame bad night + bad English. As I said, I don't care about NDAs at all, I was merely giving friendly advice (in a totally unfriendly fashion I would admit). Please accept my apologies.

You could argue your choices are a lot more meaningful by this scheme as well though. You make the choice on what race you want to be, which limits your class choices, which limit your weapon choices. Once you pick, thats what you are, you made your choice, and get to deal with it, while being able to change those aspects at will eliminates any real permanency to your choices, making them not really matter at all.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in agreement that if I want to be a Dinosaurman Ninja who fights by dual wielding shields and bashing my way to victory, I'd like the option to do so. Hell, I REALLY liked the Final Fantasy MMO system where you could go back to your house and change classes at any point, as I'm a guy who never really has "alts".

Letting me be whatever the hell I want to be makes the choices I make just as meaningful. However, it gives me a myriad of options, until I make my final choice. That's the issue, MMORPGs are eliminating options. You want to be a dwarf monk, who dual wields gophers, AND play with your buddy who decided he wanted to be an ogre priest that wears a tutu? Too fucking bad! We made it so that you only have one option! That way, the animations can be "INCREDIBLE"! The armor can all conform to one model, giving us thousands of "AMAZING COLORS" to work with!! Did we mention how awesome the animations are!?! Who cares that you can't play with your friends or talk trash to the opposite team, we've got animations out the ass!!!

It's nothing but buzzwords and PR, serving to cover for developers wanting to cut corners and make things easier on themselves.

Though shit animations (various) and "all the races look the same except the head" (SWTOR, and Vanguard I think?) have been sizable and legit complaints in the past.

What's hilarious to me about MMORPGs(this whole one-weapon thing is an extension of my point, as minor as it is), is that they keep eroding and stripping away player choice. Meanwhile, single-player RPGs are starting to offer almost absurd levels of "choice", to the point of excess. Linearity amongst single-player games is almost refreshing, at this point. Yet the genre that was built on choice, player created content/drama, etc., keeps seeing it taken away in favor of "design" reasons. Boss X must be defeated by Y mechanics. Class Y must use Z weapon. Race X must be Y class and Z faction. It's ridiculous that the genre all about "free will" and "choice", is getting less and less of it.
Gotta love those publishers and their designs... which will keep me from playing most MMOs or likely any ever again... crap crap and crap... guys... don't give em your money this time if it sucks !!!

I think choices are all about development / money / time spent, less choices mean less time spent on player's options. When you're on a tight ship, every choice matter because it means development = people working on it. Nowadays MMO production are tight on wages bill, since production wise it represents a lot of spent money. Less options = less shit to code / implement / debug / etc. Win-win.

Still makes me wonder why someone doesn't just do a 2D MMO again. Would save on so many resources.

I think Albion Online is 2D. Or at least over head view.

Most would probably view it as a step backwards and complain about how "so cheap, cant even have 3d". Look how anything non-realistic is received by a lot of people and figure that x100 for 2d :p

way to many graphics whores.
Indeed. But I think with the resources you'd have left over from a pure 2D MMO, you could do some amazing things. Hell, Ultima did a lot of stuff that was waaay ahead of it's time. I think that's because it wasn't bogged down by having to hire hundreds of artists to make more worlds for you.
