So they ripped off idea for Krono's from SoE that SoE ripped off from Eve?Did FFXIV steal a lot of thunder from this game? Seems like people haven't talked about it much over the past month or two.
I love their marketing.

Has anyone thought about the implications of the Plex System adding longevity to a game? It essentially allows players who are good for the game's economy to remain in the game, which is very forward thinking.Everyone should rip off Eve's plex system. It is a great way to keep people consuming subscription resources who are in game money rich but would not stay subbed if it took IRL cash. I have hardly played in the last year but I've kept multiple accounts subscribed because it is essentially free. Theoretically I guess I could RMT the ISK away but have always been too lazy and/or worried about getting banned to do so.
Thinking there may be major implications when gold farmers are factored in. As they could potentially sell you the e-currency to buy your time for less than you'd spend on a 13-15 dollar subscription.Has anyone thought about the implications of the Plex System adding longevity to a game? I haven't played Eve, so much of the concept is theoretical for me. I'm going to come back to this when I've had more time to think about it.
Anyone who's familiar with it see similar benefits?
The gold farmers can't set the floor for the e-currency:sub cost though. It will ultimately come down to where they set the floor (I'm sure there won't be a ceiling), and the availability of gold to the average player.Thinking there may be major implications when gold farmers are factored in. This system means they have zero choice but to be tough with people who buy from RMT as well as the RMT themselves. FFXI flat out banned anyone buying currency from RMT and over the years EvE has either banned accounts or in recent years removed the money from buyers accounts putting them in negative if necessary, meaning they can't buy anything, repair, insure etc.To me it seems like gold farmers win still. Why would a player buy CREDD for $20 then trade it for the in-game value of a 1 month subscription ($15). I'm better off going through some "sketchy" website and getting the entire worth of my $20.
If a site is selling in-game currency, I assume they'd always deliver if they're reputable. Their acquisition methods might be sketchy, but I don't think their paying customers have to worry about deliveries.
Because you can't trade $15 month subscription for in-game value. Remember: the guy who is buying CREDD for $20 isn't going to buy it for a 1 month subscription: he buys it to sell in-game for gold. So the question is: are you going to get more gold for $20 from players or from farmers? To me it seems like gold farmers win still. Person buying the cred/plex for $20 is not buying a $15 dollar subscription there buying $20 worth of gold. It's the person they sale it to that is buying the subscription and is paying for it with gold. The market price for that $20 of gold is set between players, not by the company it maybe 1000000 gold are it maybe 10000 it really doesn't matter to the company at this point. They got paid there $20 no matter what. Market forces will set prices to point where those cred/plex will sale no matter what price gold sellers set. Cred/plex will always eat a portion on gold sellers market. Only way for gold sellers to prevent cred/plex sales is to price gold at infinite gold for $19 something that is the same as putting themselves out of business. To me it seems like gold farmers win still. Doing a quick Google on EQ plat prices compared to in game Krono prices its about the same roughly a 50% mark up.For comparison:
Eve PLEX, $20 to purchase, sells for 550m ISK.
Eve RMT ISK, $21 to purchase 1 bil ISK.
Almost double but a few years back I purchased RMT ISK and ended up having that ISK taken from me a month later. I suspect with some judicious use of in-game currency deletion when RMT is detected, the large majority of the player base will avoid the risks associated with RMT sites. Its not like the target audience particularly cares about spending 10 bucks more on security and peace of mind.
Yep not the type of people you want to hand your credit card info to ether. Especially when that info can also be used to steal your account. Well they can rip you off worse then that actually.Let's not forget that gold farming (aka producing gold, legit or not, within the game) is becoming irrelevant, nowadays most gold sold in websites comes from account stealing / hacking. And unless you make authenticators mandatory, there's nothing you can't do about people being idiots.
