Exactly. A few words given and back to his seat would have sufficed in the moment it changed from fist to slap.

GI Jane actually seemed to be an argument against women in combat. Like it was clear that the presence of a woman made the men less focused and effective, and when they got an actual mission the very experienced team leader couldn't bring himself to trust a woman he had trained to silently take out someone from surprise and instead fired an unsilenced weapon to protect her, screwing up the mission. On the other hand, they repeatedly circled back to the fact that she was not physically strong enough to carry a wounded male soldier by herself.

Very mixed message.
