I would go to Ferelas back then specifically because few people did, and then only for one or two quests. Trying to get someone to do the chicken escort was near impossible because there would be maybe 5 other people in the zone.

Questing isn't really that efficient a way to xp really. It helps but you can do just as well just finding a corner and grinding for the same amount of time.

I think youre wrong. If you follow a guide that has efficient questing paths, like joanas, you do way better than just pure grindage. If youre just going willy nilly with no guide or plan, then yeah, youre probably right. Besies, most quests in vanilla are nothing but grinding anyway with the shitty drop rates for bear asses, which most of these quests are.

I grinded from like 44-50 in a random cave in Feralas in vanilla. I don't think I saw another soul the entire time.

I wouldn't use a leveling guide but I leveled like 6 toons back in the day so the basic progression I remember and the rest I'd rather just experience organically at least for this first toon being leveled. Alts may be a different story.

pretty sure i did that as well but in shimmering flats, like straight up 30-38 in vanilla lol

i need to use that joana guide, i got it when i asked about it but havent touched it yet. Then i proceed to waste mass amounts of time in desolace by missing overlapping quests

The problem with joanas is that if you dont use it from beginning, or at least early on, its pretty much hard to get into it because he uses a lot of chain quests from multiple zones and shit. I guess you could start using it and just skip the shit that he did in the past and eventually you would catch up? IDK.

Now zygors on the other hand, when I used it in retail, just essentially "started" when you started using cached quest data? Anyways it was easier to use in that regard. Even if you switched expansions (because you out leveled the previous one without finishing it) it would reset itself to where you were and you were good to go.

Yeah thats what i found too when i skimmed through it, which is why i kinda didnt use it. Was more thinking of just using it for an alt later on

Pretty sure I didn't even have the flight path for Feralas until DM was released.

Its one of the best zones in the game too. Always weird how some of the most ignored zones are some of the most interesting. I love Azshara, Desolace, Feralas. Dire Maul was probably my favorite 5 man of the entire game too.

Release day at vanilla was more than likely not the time when areas were the most overcrowded.... I didn't play the game the day it came out and don't remember how long after launch it was but when I did play it, and made a char on a new server when it was released, it was exactly like this has been for me. It was 20+ vs 20+ pvp in hillsbrad 24/7 along with people doing their questing/grinding. It was 45 people at small camps in barrens fighting over quest mobs, STV was 1 pvp fight per 1-3 mob fights.

Anyways i'll stop arguing, you guys are right. It should just be a single player RPG with no competition at all as you cruise to 60 in 15 hours /played so you can afk in town showing off your mounts and then complain you're bored because there is nothing to do now that your 60 and already have all your raid gear.

Problem IMO with feralas is the cliffs and even mini cliffs you cant climb thing which have you running around them just to get to where you wanna go. Makes travel tedious. Definitely some good grind spots though like the yeti cave, gnolls, the ogres if they are not camped. hyppoglyphs in SW, all good grind spots.

Glad you see it our way. That's why we're playing retail!

I bet if you transfer to arcanite reaper or go play on one of the other permanent low-pop servers you'll have the zones (mostly) to yourself.
