The actual IGN article is more clear. The analyst thinks Diablo Mobile will be big in Asia, since their COD Mobile is big over there and RPG-type games like Diablo are usually more successful than shooters in the mobile space.

I am sure that has a lot to do with it but I sort of suspect most of the major late summer/fall cons wind up either hybrid or online again just because its still so up in the air what will be allowed and what won't be it's hard to make that level of plans/costs on something you cant be sure will be allowed to go off.

Surely they have things queued to up reveal which can be done virtually? Wasn't the last Blizzcon virtual?

Reality is that they have fuck all to show, at best:
*Diablo 2 Remake Act 3 gameplay
*Diablo 4 Maamazon cinematic trailer
*Diablo Immortal they don't dare show
*WoW Shadowlands patch 2 info
*Hearthstone expansion
*No Overwatch due to behind the scenes chaos and people leaving the company.

They are probably already working on the next WoW expansion. They're going to push out 9.2 in like December and abandon this one.

Well, that is true for most expansions, though. Preproduction for the next expansion is most likely already done, and the world-building team should be working on the next outdoor zones at the moment, together with arts & assets.

What should be done though is work on the technical debt and their development process. It can't be that systems design is circlejerking on new systems, when current specs have still outstanding issues and bugs. It was telling that Ion came out in an interview and acknowledged that a spec was playing awful at the moment, but "nothing can be done until ... the next expansion." Not the next major patch, the next expansion.

Art majors are pretty much the definition of useless diversity hires. They can't do anything else, but by god you can find black trans female spirit fox's that can do art dime a dozen. The drop off on artistic eye is so extreme that I'm really confused by this one.
