Riot has the most finely tuned social credit system out of anyone, or did at one point.

How did that go for them? Leagues in 2022 is still widely regarded as the most toxic game and community of all time. The bot and algorithm policing did near nothing to stem toxicity. Friends of mine buy accounts for pennies from websites the instant they are suspended. That won't be possible here, apples and oranges. But the social credit system is of similar design to one Blizzard seeks to implement and so the comparison can be made.

I noped out of the Riot system after what seemed like near seasonal resets to reputation. I lost all my honor badges, and all of my honorable MMR at some point. I quit playing after I couldn't get matched with other badges anymore. Will Blizzard follow a similar design and dump social credit between expansion packs let's say? Resets to reputation every season?

As Daidraco Daidraco already pointed out players can police themselves by making friends in the fucking SOCIAL game and playing with them. Meanwhile features such as ignore have worked fine for decades.

Nothing says good quality gaming like a sterile safe space environment. Nothing like living in a world with no flavor.

Look if the quality of the sperging was the same as EQ basement dweller sperging I wouldn't care at all. The fact of the matter though is that it isn't and what replaced it is just exhausting to even read.

The only reward for good behavior as far as I can tell is just not being retarded, the are only punishing's players not rewarding people for reporting. And yea LoL is still toxic for the reason you mentioned, you can buy an account in seconds and a new account inherently isnt that much of a downside other then placement, but if you are being suspended that much anyways it isn't really your goal knowing what happens if you are toxic. Starting a new in WoW can take a good amount of time since everything is time gated nowadays.

End of the day this is a business. If your business is being impacted because some fucking edge lord is being an anti-social dipshit and losing you customers, you make changes to mitigate that

If I had a restaurant and some dude buys a burger then starts being a toxic asshole and driving away customers, I’m going to kick him out of the restaurant because he is driving away more business than he gives himself

The culture is toxic and has been toxic forever. Trying to reign it in is worthwhile but I still think shit's going to get way more toxic once they try and implement some version of Play Nice Policies.

Toxicity happens primarily because young adult males are essentially children who don't know how to have fun anymore.

I played one new pvp game, the servers just went live and it was everyone's first match. One guy was shitting himself because the team was doing poorly. Guy was having a crying fit over it. These leet gamers are everywhere now.
Sure, but if we all ended the thought there, we'd be stuck dealing with it and complaining until we die. I think people suck more now, but I also think we can move back towards people having fun if the games properly promote that behavior. Blizzard killing the race to world first and MDI would probably go a long way, esports is a plague.

Nothing more toxic than someone bricking M+ keys playing with a controller. Wonder where that shit falls in the safe space policy.

This confuses me so much, it's the same buttons mapped to my hand instead of a rectangle. People play games with controllers, why does this confuse you when it's the majority of gaming?

I figured out that controller was superior when I upgraded from Commodore 64 to Sega Master System in 1993. I was 7 years old.

PC games only existed in the 90s/00s because of easy internet connection compared to consoles, they only exist now because of ease of developing on PC and self publishing indie games on things like Steam.

It's really only specific cases where mouse is superior to analogue stick, like FPS. RPG is not one of them.

The people who complain the most in BG queues are *always* the worst players, actually.

I found PvP very frustrating in WoW depending on what class I was, probably contributes.

Priest always seemed like dogshit getting stun locked by Rogues while Druid was great in WSG and AV for doing the objectives.

I really think Blizzard is making a case for worst managed company in the history of American business.

IDK, Origin's servers are infested with hackers and they do nothing about it. You can't even play the newer battlefront, they've made it where the hackers can't go below 1hp and it's server wide. How they haven't been sued for this is beyond me, it makes a portion of the game unplayable.

You could pull up a spectator screen for BFV in the courtroom and probably find 2-3 hackers on each server.

Pretty close to it. World of Tanks has a 3rd party plugin that shows player stats by changing the color of their name in the overlay. One can go anon which blocks it, but 99% of the time anons are bad players hiding their stats in game.

Anyway, most of the whiners are people who are bad at the game. We are talking about people with 20k+ matches and still have laughable performance.

Blizzard Entertainment is excited to announce Jessica Martinez as our first Vice President, Head of Culture. This comes as part of our ongoing initiative to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture where people at every level can learn, grow, and bring their most creative selves to their work.

Jessica and the Blizzard leadership team will be responsible for growing and implementing our culture strategy, ensuring alignment across all teams and functions, and revamping learning and talent development programs. Excited to champion change within the gaming industry, Jessica says “When you create a people-first environment where teams feel safe, valued, and work together toward a shared purpose, everyone thrives–the employees, the players, and the business.” To help achieve this, Jessica will lead the learning and development team, while working closely with communications, events, and each of the franchise and functional leaders.

Jessica joins Blizzard after more than 14 years leading strategy, communications, operations and employee experience at the Walt Disney Company, where she served as Chief of Staff and key strategic advisor to both the Chief Security Officer and the Chief Technology & Digital Officer for Disney Parks & Resorts. Jessica is also an avid skier, an active supporter of animal rescues, and a Little League Baseball Coach.

Welcome to the team, Jessica!

"What exactly is it that you do here?"

Seriously I'd like to see what her typical day looks like. Probably lots of lattes and making sure that all of WoW's coders are keeping their male gaze under control.

Here's other new gay shit: World of Warcraft News and Raiding Strategies - MMO-Champion

Social credit system INCOMING

Social Contract

Hail, traveler, and welcome to the World of Warcraft!

Azeroth is a living world full of people like you - other players with different backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and histories who have all come together to play World of Warcraft.

Every player deserves to have a world that they feel safe in, so please take a minute to read our Social Contract.

While in Azeroth, do your best to:

  • Connect with other players and make friends! Being courteous in group content can help you and your teammates have the best time possible. Sending a friendly hello message can help set your group up for success.
  • Play as a team with your fellow players - whether in dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, arenas, or out questing in the world. Do your best to support your team through your communication and behaviors so that you can all celebrate your success together.
  • Assist other players that you encounter in the world. Maybe they need some help defeating a tough monster, or maybe they could use a little healing!
  • Help answer questions others have in chat channels like General or Trade. We were all newbies once - one person offering some help can go a long way!

We recognize that the Internet is not always a safe haven. With that in mind, please note that the following behaviors are not accepted in Azeroth:

  • Hate speech, including negative comments that target another player's identity, including aspects like race, gender, or ability
  • Harassment, threats, or abusive / derogatory language and behaviors
  • Spamming, advertising, or other disruptive behaviors

If you harm your fellow adventurers with any of the above behaviors, you are subject to punishment up to and including suspension of your account.

It's a big world out there, with all sorts of people in it. So please try to be respectful of each other, and if you ever feel like somebody is acting against this code, please report those behaviors so that our team can look into it. Together, you can help us make the World of Warcraft a safe home away from home for everyone.

Accept / Exit Game

LOL 18 years later they decide to address toxicity.

  • Hate speech, including negative comments that target another player's identity, including aspects like race, gender, or ability
  • Harassment, threats, or abusive / derogatory language and behaviors
  • Spamming, advertising, or other disruptive behaviors

They would probably have to ban 90% of WoW's players if they actually followed through with this. That player base has always been pretty shit and they were allowed to be and coddled for 18 years.

Also, don't think I didn't notice them slipping on that Marxist/CRT talk of equating words with "harming". Words being "dangerous" and "harmful" just makes it an equal and proportionate response when antifa punches you in the head. They're only fighting back against your violence, Andy!

Yeah, I see WoW going in the toilet pretty soon subscriberwise.

I just hope they don't make ganking a bannable offense.

Hell they will probably make misgendering an NPC a bankable offense. I can't wait for a Guild leader to get banned for saying "Hey guys" for being harmful and nonexclusive just so tranny faggot deerskin and wannabe failed streamers can feel safe.

That's the same kind of desperation for cash that e.g. Daybreak has with their latest expansion. Premium is $139.99, while top tier is $249.99, which includes a giftable expansion unlock for a second account.

I have thought what it would take to try the new expansion, and what would be absolute dealbreakers. Then Mike/Preach told the story that he and his buddies wanted to play with 9.2 for the new raid, when a friend still playing informed them on Discord: "9.2 is great, now you only need to do 15 minutes of dailies"--and instantly half the group said "fuck it, I'm not coming back".

That is also a dealbreaker for me: Any dailies involving player power or any kind of unlocks can fuck right off. Also, mission tables: If I see another mission table I'm out.
