So they lightly glossed across that subject. Apparently we wont have anything that relates back to actual progression within the rest of the game. For example, if you raise herbs or grow mining nodes - those materials will be what is required to build/craft structures and objects and nothing more. It sounds like they are overwhelmingly steering away from what the goal of the Garrisons was.Everything I hear is that the tools are extremely robust if you want to customize your Barbie dollhouse, but I do not care.
Hell, unless they have portals to old expansions or crafting tables, I won't bother. And given that (to avoid Garrison loneliness) it sounds like you have to travel to your neighborhood, then your house, even if they did have portals / tables, it doesn't sound like it would be any faster than staying in the capital city.
The only thing that can save WOW is WOW2 made by a whole new small team of extremely passionate mmo gamers.
I was having this discussion with my friend recently. Basically I told him I'm really only interested in WOW in a whole new engine with a whole new game to explore. Cataclysm the shit out of the world so we have all new zones and shit to explore blah blah blah. Just retcon the whole series with notable characters and notable locations but different if you catch my meaning. We are already playing WoW2. There will never be a separate game with a fresh slate.
I always hear that about "collections" and "achievements" - but unless theyre actively playing the game right now, or have played the game recently - they might as well not even exist.I was having this discussion with my friend recently. He said it would never work because everyone's mounts and bear asses they've collected over 10s of thousands of hours. While he has a point, I say rip that bandaid off. Sorry, game has run it's course. Shut down the servers and allow people to privatize it and open source it. Nobody gives a shit about your TCG mount from 20 years ago. Congratulations you (and all of us) have wasted an ungodly amount of time on this game. It's time to move on.
However I agree it'll probably never happen. Hell look what's going on with POE1/2. It's the exact same dynamic on a much smaller scale then something like WOW and it's not going well for them.

Maybe if MMOs didn't waste dev time creating content that will be experienced once and done for 99% of the player base they could come out the gate swinging. It's gonna take some truly innovative ideas to reinvigorate the mmo market but I think it will come... eventually. But toBlizzard of 2025 is not capable of starting fresh with a new MMO that would actually keep people's attention. Plus the amount of content you have to put out these days to keep people subbed is insane. It's the reason most MMO's fail, lack of endgame+ content.

Which is honestly what I think the housing shit will ultimately turn into. They're going to have city blocks with rankings, and the most popular will always show and be rated by other players higher etc. We'll likely have themes from time to time and that'll get people to invest time into a specific "look" that the devs can steal. Entire towns like Suramar will be able to be filled in a fraction of the time. Think you'll recognize someones work? Maybe. But out of the millions and millions of players, globally, that play - very seriously doubt it. The EULA will probably include something, or likely already does, about any creative aspects of the game solely belong to Blizzard. In the future one day we might find a company that is willing to use and abuse the skills of their playerbase.. Given how fucking big WoW was at one point you could have easily had the playerbase design everything from raids to character models, hell many of them did this for free.
Blizzard could of thrown them a couple of bucks for pennies on the dollar effectively crowd sourcing all work to the most fanatical to retards willing to just get their name on the credits.
Given how greedy Kotick was I am surprised nobody pitched this to him.
If I was a greedy CEO I would of done this.
MMOs are a dead genre IMO the only real "market" for it is 35-50yo neckbeards who never grew up and the ones that did don't have the time to sink into a subscription based game anymore. I doubt we'll see any MMO game release in the next decade that is as popular as WoW was unless you redefine what people typically think of as an MMOI always hear that about "collections" and "achievements" - but unless theyre actively playing the game right now, or have played the game recently - they might as well not even exist.
Everyone always seems to come up with some big brain theory about why it couldnt or shouldnt be done. But the fact is, if Blizzard could build another MMO that would get them that 10-15 million US subscriber audience all over again, at their new price point of $65 base edition boxes, plus the increase in deluxe, legendary, and the cash shop and the subscription... the shit would print money. Hell, that was 2010. They could probably expect the audience size to be twice that at this point.
The only reason that Blizzard doesnt do it is.. well, I thinkBoozeCube is right. The people that they have THERE, right NOW, were not the originators of that "spark." They were the bean counters that reeled everyone in and kept them focused. They are the ones that Activision kept around because they were good at the bean counting and management roles. The sparks? They were fired or quit. So the only valid excuse right now, especially from a company like Microsoft.. is that they do not have a single ounce of faith in their current team to create another "spark" in the gaming industry. Especially when we know for a fact that Microsoft will commit 100's of millions to what is ultimately a shit / failed product.
With that said, we'll probably see an MMO release within the next decade that will be as popular as WoW if not more popular than WoW but it wont be in the Warcraft universe and it sure as fuck wont be from the current Blizzard team.
A look at the audience of MMO's and you can see that the population of MMO's has grown significantly in a global aspect. Thats still the tried and true traditional MMORPG, where the first 100 hours of the game is boring as fuck and has been done to death, just like you're beating a fucking dead horse by saying MMO's are dead. How many times have you heard some jaded old fuck say those exact words? Theyre still playing fucking EverQuest or Ultima Online or some shit and the reality of it is, is its THAT game thats fucking dying. WoW peaked at 12 million players in 2010, where is this global population of MMO players you refer to? Is there some super popular game I’m not aware of with millions of subscribers?A look at the audience of MMO's and you can see that the population of MMO's has grown significantly in a global aspect. Time? Well yea, obviously a 35-50 year old is going to have plenty of opportunity to get out there and make more money, or enjoy life in another way that isnt cooped up in the house. But best believe that there are more kids than ever that are wasting away their entire fucking life playing games that are surface level brain dead, week in and week out. I dated a girl back at Thanksgiving and she had two boys, 11 and 13. They played the fuck out of Fortnite like it was a brand new game.
Redefine is one way to put it? But MMORPG's require too much investment from people in general. We've went over it time and time again in this very forum - the difference between Classic and Retail? In retail, I cant fucking group with Johnny Retard because he's bad at the game, and I cant complete anything with him tow. I dont have enough time to "shoot the shit" with anyone because Im moving around mechanics, doing a proper rotation. Never mind the people that relax by getting high, or getting drunk. Why the fuck would they play a game where they have to have a good 70+ APM the entire time they have to play? Why the fuck am I going to play a game where I am wiping 400-500 times on a raid boss with 19 other people that are having the worst day of their fucking lives? Where the fuck is the fun in fucking WoW anymore? Mythic is excruciatingly awful with the wrong people and the rewards for doing a low end mythic with your buddies are non-existent.
Fuck that mess - let me just go play fucking REPO and have some of the best laughs Ive had in a while.
I said next decade because it "appears" politically, that we are moving as a culture back towards a Merit Based Rewards system. How long will it take for a group of rock star devs to come together under those circumstances and not be bogged down by fucking rainbow haired cunts worried about how realistic a fucking piece of armor looks on a woman or not? Bitch - she wouldnt even be on the battlefield in the first fucking place. Please sit the fuck down.
