Why are you even here? There are dozens of servers you could be playing right now with all the raid content. Why such a butthurt little faggot?

Yeah, why ARE you so butthurt, big qwert?

Request the poll be modified to include "too busy watching qwerty implode" as an option.

The problem is that you just hit a place where yove basically finished everything. I played on a server like this VoG, took 4 toons leveled them up strictly through dungeons, geared them up as best as I could, etc.Veksar, Sebilis, Shassera, etc. then you just hit a dead end. PoP was the next thing to do but all the flagging and bullshit to accomplish anything was just meh. So I was there with 4 fresh lv 65s with some of the best dungeon loot and now needed to grind AAs to progress through PoP since that shit was like 100% uptick in difficulty. no thanks, then I quit. It was nice while it lasted for the 1 month.

The server did have raid mobs that were supposedly tuned to be 1+ group but this too took more people (server was pretty much empty, just a bunch of 4 boxers) I tried a few and failed hard. Again, more AA grinding, no thanks. Of course I could of made a warrior cleric shaman and 2 mages and probably curbstomped through everything, but i didnt. Or Cleric and 4-5 mages for the most bang. I had IS boxer running so I could of easily hit 3 keys and all mobs would die in seconds.

I was tempted by that server too but I don't like the idea of the easy mode changes. The thing with hitting a dead end happens to every server though. Even normal servers with all the raid content, it might take a while to work through all the elemental planes and stuff but once you have done it, you are done. P99 is really popular yet is capped at Velious! That is seriously limited but I think the population is good because they enjoy making alts and taking their time.

A server like this would be the same in that you would reach an end eventually, maybe not take as long as the others, but should still take a long time and it would be more fun for people who don't like the boring raids.

VoG is interesting though. There should be more servers like that which try new stuff. But too many of them go the ez mode route and make all the mobs splattable. That aint EQ.

Fine, fine. I admit. I will play this!

Meet you in Crushbone.

Because you can't have good grouping when there is raid content. People just forget about grouping and wait for the raids to ride along on their coat tails to best in slot items. Then they only log in to raid. And if they ever do go to some group content, it is boring and easy because they have gear way better than it was designed for.

It wasn't so bad in the real EQ because the population was big enough that there were plenty of people doing groups and not raiding. But on all the small emu servers, everyone raids.

you can have grouping with raid content. I havent raided since I was in highschool, but I grouped with raiders all the time. I learned that if I played the game well, people wanted to play with me. Gear didnt matter.

The more you post, the more people can tell that you are an insufferable fuck that no one wanted to put up with. You also probably sucked at the game, which is sad because EQ is pretty fucking easy.

I didn't say grouping, I said good grouping. Going to group dungeons with raid geared people is boring because everything is too easy. I don't know why you think nobody would want to group with me, I have been in a billion groups and dozens of guilds. I am not sure you even understand what any of this is about... Also EQ wasn't easy when it was played the right way, ie, going to somewhere like Sebilis in the early 50's with old world gear. Everyone getting 1 shotted by caster mobs etc... You think the game is too easy because you never played the game like that.

you attain gear and shit gets a little easier, its how eq has always worked raids or no raids. There is always some stretch room for how well you play. When I played on live, I played with a group of people who kept our raids small. We did a bunch of shit that required 4 groups with two-2.5 because we were well organized. I think the game is easy because I learned how to play it well.

Keep proving to us with every post that you were just a shitty eq player.

The only reason you think eq is hard is because games are easier now. But in the end it was a kill shit to get shit so you can kill stronger shit game. In the end the game difficulty nullifys itself, raid gear or no raid gear.

EQ was never hard. It was tedious and dangerous at low levels until you established a network. Once you were lv 50+ and had a network of buddies it was easymode, yet still tedious as hell.

Gameplay mechanics were basic tank and spank for almost everything, with a cleric rotation and as much deeps as you could dish out. The only way they thought of making shit harder over the years was shitty key grinds, bane weapon grinds, millions more HP and more shitty AE attacks which drained casters mana and hit melee for a fuck-ton. They added stupid shit like summon to basically all mobs past Luclin so you could not kite anymore, because that somehow broke the fucking game, and yet they kept some asinine shit in like swarm kiting SKs, Bards, AE teams, OP enchanter charms, and even made Magician pets more powerful...to roll in those AAs by the hundreds for years after. I remember my 82 ranger being parked in plane of fire for months headshotting the entire back of the zone (area around tables) for mad AAs. I would clear out the entire back section in 15 min or less, rinse and repeat. Gather like 20 of them, vineleash cascae for a Ae root, then plink at them one by one for those sweet sweet headshots. Not even taking 1 pt dmg. Then they finally nerfed all that shit too in 2014? (because of zone stability or some shit, was their excuse) and decided to just grant us all those AAs automatically. I remember this year logging into my 85 Ranger when I decided to play some Phinny, I hit that auto AA grant button, re-logged and had like 4500 AAs, lol. Basically tripling my power.

The difference, dummy, is that with group gear there is a low cap for how strong your characters can get.

The only reason you think eq is hard is because games are easier now.

No. It was hard, and still is hard, when you play appropriate content. Chardok, Seb etc. are absolutely deadly at appropriate levels and without raid gear. The lowest con mobs are white, most stuff is yellow and red. Most of you have never even played the game at this point. You want to try to question my EQ experience but I've played this game to death which is how I know this stuff. But some levels and raid gear takes all the challenge away. Say you try to lull a mob in a group of 3, and it fails, so you get all 3... If one of them casts an ice comet on any player except the tank, they are likely dead from that one spell alone. And even on the tank, they will get taken so low that they will get low hp aggro. There was no leeway for half assed playing like that. Someone needed to spam enchanter stuns or something similar or people died regularly. But go back there with raid gear and later in the 50s and it is completely different.

It was only easy if your buddies were raiders and you did inappropriate stuff. Back in early EQ the Ghoul Lord in Lower Guk used to get done by 3 groups... When nobody had a ykesha yet or even a SSB, that shit was hard. It was only when people started farming TBB, FBSS, etc that the numbers required for the GL would drop and drop and eventually became 1 group. With better gear and level 50 it could be soloed.

The challenge got reset with a new expansion. Karnor was carnage the first weeks of Kunark, because nobody was used to mobs that hit so hard. Level 50s with old world gear just couldn't cope with Seb. Even full groups would wipe constantly. Just a few months made all the difference. At level 55 your spells stop resisting as much, mana pools are big enough to keep up, there are more powerful spells, and people had better gear. It started getting easier then, and eventually it got too easy. Going to Seb at 60 with a few pieces of raid gear was a joke, most of it could be done with a duo.

Also the grind you talk about was for raiding only. Key grinds, bane gear, million hp mobs etc, that was just to keep the dumb raiders occupied. None of that was needed for group content.

Yeah all that shit you talk about is called progression, yeah it happened in EQ.

Let's go back to page one. "EQ is dead faggot get over it." Arguing over and over how some hypothetical shit emu sever with stupid fucking rules that everyone here has basically pointed out is awful and dogshit. Yet even then you still can't let go.

I'd love an EQ server that makes the old world a lot more valid. You could spend years just extending classic, making speedbump places like CT, The Hole, Kedge Keep, Najena, Paw, etc. into significant destinations that take some effort to complete. The content before PoP is just very thin and spread out. Basically re-arrange every xpac to be a lot more like PoP, not necessarily with an emphasis on raiding, but on progression. Raiding would just be an element of that progression. Rather than getting 17 annoying NO RENT keys in Najena to access Najena herself for boots/FBR, you get a character flag from slaying Najena (less trivial) such that when you hail a guy outside Sol A you earn an AA group FR rune on a 10m duration and 18hr CD. Anyone can zone into Sol A, but those with the buff will just have an easier time of it because the goblins proc AE fire damage. So your group of 6 can wreck fire goblins for an hour and later fire giants and fire dragons (fire dragon will shred the rune a lot faster ofc). The whole structure of the challenge and the reward is earned by an individual, but is more valuable for a group so socializing is desirable. Maybe you can earn an AE version of the buff to use for more populous events.

So many emus are either intensely grindy with RNG deciding microscopic progress or way too easy with super fast respawns and loot being super common. Instead use WoW's crafting progression of lots of farm and accessible skillups + no-fail combines to diminish the value of RNG and just make farming an activity that rewards grouping and raiding above soloing. In this way people are always earning tangible progression in small increments. Factions, consumables, and occasionally AA passives and actives for milestones. Everyone can make progress, but socializing in larger groups earns rewards faster. For example, The Hole raiding experience might earn WAY more elemental dirt per person per hour than soloing Gorge for your archetype based Beneath augs which proc group buffs necessary to make Sky's higher islands realistic as they get progressive buffs and the whole zone has a timed reset+banish from the first mob other than faeries that dies. You can solo faeries forever for dust to get the Sky completion flag, and you can build spells and weapons explicitly to kill just faeries and imps faster. It'll take a while, or you can cooperate with other players to kill the Eye of Veeshan and get your flag that way. All of your class quests are converted to flag requirements on the upper islands so anyone that makes it to EoV will earn all of their knick knacks along the way without having to re-do Sky endlessly, polluting their bags with zone-specific quest garbage and bookmarking your class's p99 haste belt quest.

I just don't get making the progression a race from one poorly built old xpac to another. There is a deeper value to the old content, but they need a big facelift so it's not as much 10 level 30 zones spreading people out and more like 3 level 25 zones and 3 level 30 zones and 3 level 35 zones with unique rewards that make visiting them valuable long after you have moved past them.

EQ2 had a lot of this kind of added depth, but it also had all of EQ2's suck.
