I don’t need to have played this or Turtle or THJ to understand that you don’t spend a decade modding someone else’s game if you could’ve rolled your own IP all along.

Ascension WoW isn't like Turtle or THJ. The guys running it are Multi millionaires from it, they were probably making more than Daybreak is on EQ. The amount of Assets and content they added is far beyond what Blizzard adds in a typical WoW expansion.

Much like with the Turtle WoW crew I wish them the best on their endeavor. If they are able to produce a working game they certainly have a captive audience to provide it to.

But I will believe it when I see it.

It's going to be it's own original MMO.

Do you guys think that Blizzard and Ascension came to some form of agreement and are going to pull an Everquest Legends since Ascension is so different from regular WoW?

The only agreement that makes any sense is if Blizzard allows Ascension to use WoW's engine, but they have to come up with their own art / content / story / etc. It might feel like WoW, but it will look ENTIRELY different.

I mean that's possible but who knows they are potentially releasing Classic+ at Blizzcon this year.

I think it would be funny as fuck if the walked out on stage and announced Classic+ and it was just fucking Bronzebeard with some slight changes.

Idk personally I'm curious what Ascension has in store, the legal battle happened far to quick I honestly think they might have made an agreement with Blizzard of some sort, Say what you will about Ascension but the servers were unique easily the highest population private servers and printed money. If Blizzard seen that and knew they could get a piece of that with doing minimum work. Who knows.

Oh I totally agree that if Ascension opened their books to Blizzard, they definitely wanted a piece. But with something as massive as Classic+ coming this year, whatever Ascension offers can't look ANYTHING like WoW. But licensing out the engine so that all Ascension has to do is art work and content, then the Ascension devs could easily roll up an alpha state game in a couple months.

I've been thinking for a while that Blizzard should let people make private servers officially, like WC3 custom games, with a server browser on battle.net and let them monetize and take a cut (and require a sub obviously). It's impossible for Classic+ to ever be better than that, because no one agrees on what it should be. So people could just find a server that fits them and play it.

That's a lot of faith in Blizzard for Classic+ lol.

Maybe licensing out the engine yeah. But they'd still need to make skeletons and such for models idk hard to say. Will be an interesting next couple of months.

I agree, allow people to make their own servers and charge a fee to play on them.

I think the community knows better than Blizzard what Classic+ is at this point though. Blizzard will be doing stupid shit and listening to streamers which yes it gives them some idea but I've heard some of the most retarded fucking takes from of the streamers that actually went to Blizzard to most likely see Classic+. regardless Blizzcon is in like 2 weeks who will be the one called to wear the red shirt and tell Blizzard it's trash.

I was speaking from Blizzard's perspective. Shutting down Ascension and Turtle WoW has way more to do with squashing competition than it does protecting their IP. Classic+ is going to be one of Blizzard's biggest PR pushes at this year's Blizzcon and they don't want anything at all competing with it if they can help it.

If Classic+ had already been out for 2 or 3 years and populations were starting to wane, I'd agree. But Blizzard isn't going to allow anything to compete with a fresh, new Classic+ that they are putting as one of their capstone presentations at Blizzcon this year.

When was the last time Blizzard put out something new that was good?

Blizz Classic+ is going to be trash.

I'm curious what their agreement is that didn't get them sued into oblivion with how much money they've made from these servers. Dutch could probably do a lot of good work if they put his team on C+ while toning down the P2W and crazy retail-esque shit lol

I thought what Turtle and Bronzebeard did was awesome, and I had long moved on from wow after wow classic ended up being mostly bots cornering the consumable market.

My experience in classic was people were all over the starter zone, and then by the time RFC / DM opened up, it was boosting till 60 by a mage. Z axis exploits, lvl 5s in all zones under the ground harvesting nodes...million reports, zero bans.

Hop on turtle or CoA, someone reports betting or exploiting and entire server is alerted and they are banned. It was glorious.

Had a ton of fun on both servers.
