i wake up and look at my leg and say, don't you do it

and my leg said
"i'mma do it"

and i said
don't you dare do it!!!

and my leg said
"charley horse"!!!

so i end up gripping in pain and punching my calf muscle and now i'm limping around and putting electrolyte powder in my fucking coffee. this happens once a year

I was at an Estate Sale on Friday (another way to know I'm getting old...) and it was for a guy who was a photographer who passed away. They had these "fill this bag for $5" bags in the garage. So I grabbed a bag and started filling it with anything I could melt for my metalcasting (brass, bronze, copper, mostly) and saw a pewter plate, so I grabbed that too. The plate turned out to be a Kodak memorial plate from 100 years in business, put out in 1980. Seems it sells on 2-bay for like $25 bucks so I might not melt it now...

Last week, I woke up 4 different times through out the morning to 4 different fucking charlie horses. Fuck this shit.

Surprised it's taken this long. I used to astrophotography with actual film cameras and used slide film and the most often used and often only available at the time was Fuji film.

It's fucking torture, but immediately get on your feet and stretch the calf. Back when I got those a lot, that was the only way to ensure I wouldn't be limping around all day.

Yup, another option is immediately get in the shower and let hot water stream over your legs while you stretch them. It works very well.

My wife calls hers Ms Body and she argues and fights with her all the time. She claims the answer to cramps is to not let your body win. Keep doing whatever you're doing until it realizes you're the boss and falls in line.

I found a jow that works really well for cramps. I used to get calf cramps that would last 30ish minutes, and when they were done the leg would be sore for days. One night I woke up with that cramp, put some jow on it and not only did it stop immediately, but there was no soreness.

I think I finally understand hitting the wall or 'my get up and go, got up and went'.

I've lived a life of never stretching and recovering quickly from playing sports. I played tennis on Monday for 2.5 hours and my body was nuked. I spent half an hour stretching it out when I got home but it didn't seem to help at all. I think the whole never stretching thing has caught up to me and now I have to fix it. I'm starting out by getting regular massages to undo all of the knots in my back and shoulders while also starting up a twice a morning/night stretching routine. I hate stretching because I'm not very flexible at all... go figure.

while back i was getting almost nightly calf cramps, then started taking daily magnesium pill. now they are far less frequent. if i can feel one starting the stretching can stop most of them

i have gotten woken up twice lately with foot cramps, like the arc area. hurts, but not as bad as calves. i have started doing epson salts baths after a lot of exertion. it seems to help.

Someday my time will come and I'll make the switch. However, as someone who has played tennis for 40 years, I'll hold off as long as I can. I think it's a common mentality among tennis players, that pickleball is for people who physically can't handle tennis anymore. Either from old age or an injury.

The social event I played in was mostly people older than me. I felt younger while I was out there but by the time I got home my age jumped 20 years.

Occasionally my sciatic nerve in my lower back gets pinched, and then I feel like I'm being stabbed in the back, while someone needles my legs. This time around it was 3 days of pain. Thankfully last night it must have unpinched, because now I'm just sore instead of in agony.

I don't think it's an either/or thing. You can play tennis and when tired go play pickleball and you'll be just fine. Especially if you play doubles, pickleball isn't really exercise for the most part.

I drink 2/3 of my days water by the time I’m done with lunch. I drink the other third in the afternoon and maybe have a few sips with dinner. Once I eat dinner, that’s it. If I drink any water from that point on I’m up in the middle of the night.
