7.5/10. Saved by the comedy.

Spiderman is the villain in this movie.

I was reading one of the rotten reviews for it and they mentioned the diverse cast but still weren't happy.
They literally went as far as they could without casting an American Inventor as Spiderman.

Then again, it is set in New York.

I just found it funny that this reviewer is expecting fucking character development for random fucking dude with 10 seconds of screen time just cause they are diverse.

I wouldnt expect any less retardation from someone who reviews movies based on their diversity quotient.

Just got back... thought the movie was incredibly well done. It's not on the epic level of Avengers or Civil War but what it does for the Spider-man character and Spider-verse (?) was great. Comedy was good. RDJ was appropriately used. Sidekick kept it very well grounded to the High School setting. Villain had solid, yet cliche motive but Keaton made it work quite well.

Loved when Peter came out of the office and Ned asked if he was expelled.... Peter said no... Ned comes back that he was lucky. As if it wasn't lucky that everyone didn't die or Peter didn't die ... etc. Ned constantly kept the story grounded.

I would probably place this movie somewhere in the middle of the pack among all Marvel movies. It's no GotG but it's solid. I'm going to say 7.5 to an 8 / 10.

Was this an origin story? If so, how does it compare to say... Doctor Strange? With my family life returning to good graces, I'm no longer going to see this tonight. Or probably at all for a few weeks until there's a time that I have availability that doesn't impose on anyone else.

not really an origin story, they go into it assuming you already know the bit about the radioactive spider and what not. it takes place immediately after civil war. I would say it's comparable to Doctor Strange in terms of my enjoyment, maybe a notch higher.

the thing that hurts this movie is the action. it's... not great. it's hard to tell what's going on sometimes, and when can tell what's going on, it's mostly pretty dumb.

in terms of comedy though, it's top notch.

all in all, good movie, definitely worth a watch. but falls short of Spiderman 2 by a safe margin.

fuck man I guess i'm the odd man out here.

It's GOTG quality for me. Mid tier 1 Marvel film. prolly 8.5/10

only thing that really detracts is fucking diversity quota for sake of Diversity
the hot black chick love interest is fine. Fit the story well, considering who her father is.

It's the ugly ass dominican looking chick who you learn at the end is fucking MJ. wtf is this shit.
the chamorran looking bestie was fine.

This isn't an origin story but it is spiderman learning how to be spiderman at the same time spiderman learning how to be iron spider, hilarity ensues. Wouldn't say spiderman is the villain (lol) but it is a bunch of 15 year old high school sophomore spiderman committing epic blunders trying to learn to be the hero. I'd liken it to Wonder Woman and her portrayal of Wonder Woman's naivety when encountering man for the first time. Except this movie is almost Deadpool levels of comedy rather than drama and that sweet ass Gal Gadot.

the 2nd trailer which we all feared pretty much spelled out the entire film, does in fact spell out the entire film in very broad strokes, but that doesn't detract from the film at all. there's still a lot going on that you learn from watching.

Also the after credits scene is pure, epic fucking trolling. it's worth staying just to get trolled.

Don't really get what they're doing with MJ. Zenyatta is basically playing a different character, different look, different personality, different name. That's fine.

But with the same nickname...

Just let her be her own thing? Is there stipulation in the Marvel/Sony deal that requires Peter to date a girl nicknamed MJ? Marvel too scared to actually commit to a raceswap of a iconic character?

Adrian Toomes is a hardworking individual who loves his family. He loves them so much that he is willing to stay with his wife who is a fat black piece of shit. His only motivation in life is to provide for his family. After having his business ruined by the reckless actions of 0.0001%er Tony Stark, Adrian uses some good old fashion American ingenuity and pursues a business niche that has yet to be filled, distributing new age weapons technology to interested parties. Even though it is their 2nd amendment right to bear arms, this gets him on the radar of Tony Stark, who is in league with the federal government monopolizing all weapons sales, ensuring that only his 1%er friends can get a piece of the pie. Peter Parker is a delusional 15 year old kid who is desperate to impress Tony Stark so he can join the global elite. Peter repeatedly meddles in Adrian's affairs, showing zero concern over the millions of dollars in property damage he inflicts on the working class along the way. Peter has his friend Ned carry and detonate a live bomb in the Washington Monument, a symbol of the freedom, hope and opportunity that America has to offer for all over its citizens, not just the elite, which apparently infuriates Peter. Peter escalates even beyond this by showing up at Adrian's house with the intentions of banging his daughter. Despite all this though, Adrian is a reasonable, forgiving man, who only asks that Peter shows his daughter a nice time at the prom. Peter, humiliated by the notion of being seen in public with a mulatto from a working class family, immediately abandons her at the dance, no doubt crushing her self-esteem and creating major attachment issues for her down the road. Peter stalks Adrian and finds he is attempting to boost some cargo belonging to Tony Stark from an in-transit flight, a victimless crime that be completely immaterial to Stark Enterprises and leave nobody hurt. Peter, unwilling to allow this hardworking family man have so much as a breadcrumb, decides to assault Adrian in mid air. Spiderman sabotages the plane's engine and brings down the plane on Comey Island, killing everybody on board and no doubt causing tens of millions to have to relive the pain and grief of the 9/11 attacks. After subduing Adrian, Peter has the choice of allowing him to return home to his family, or putting his future in the hands of a rigged criminal justice system bought and sold by people like Tony Stark. Naturally, Peter chooses the latter, and Tony Stark heaps praise and lavish rewards on Peter for his tenacity in putting this uppity member of the proletariat back in his place.

5) The Dark Knight
6) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
7) X2
8) Guardians of the Galaxy
9) Iron Man
10) Spider-Man: Homecoming

Solid list.. I guess I just never got the love for Spider-man 2. I'm such a Tobey hater that I guess that's the problem. Seriously, there are moments in the film that he ruins everything for me. I really appreciate Logan as a movie and the acting but honestly, it's not a comic book movie when you stand it up against Civil War. You have to put it in the list but it's just such a different take on how Comic Books can actually have some really solid, dramatic storylines, I think Avengers and Civil War spoil my expectations. I'm going with this list...

1) Civil War
2) Avengers 1
3) GotG
4) Logan
5) Winter Solider
6) Ironman
7) Dark Knight
8) Antman
9) Spider-Man: Homecoming
10) Dr. Strange

3/4 are close for me. GotG really, really surprised me how good it was..
6 i'm an Ironman fanboy. Actually Ironman and Spiderman are my two favorite comic book characters so I tried to keep that at bay
8 another movie that really caught me off guard. I think he actually made Civil War that much better as well
9/10 not sure. I think I liked Spiderman quite a bit more but it was nice to see magic and cosmic level stuff in the MCU

I'm going to guess or maybe just call it that Thor 3 breaks into my top 10.

the best thing Spiderman 2 had going for it was the action. every sequence is well put together, makes sense, feels high stakes and is engaging, unlike the crap they stitched together for this one. Sam Raimi really nailed that part of the job, which is pretty remarkable considering he was working with 2004 era technology. Toby wasn't perfect but did a decent job, if we're going to complain about someone's casting in that movie it would be Kirsten Dunst, god she sucks. Octavius, Aunt May, Jonah Jameson were all right on the money though.

I have to ask, do you have some sort of RSS feed set up to alert you every time someone mentions Civil War just so you can shit on it? I've seen it in multiple forums here, not just the Movie House, and I'm constantly amazed by how quickly you are able to pounce. I gotta take my hat off to you, that's some dedication!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I agree that some of the action scenes, particularly in IMAX 3D, were way too hard to follow. I also agree that my entire thought about this Zendaya chick is, "Am I supposed to know who this one-name-person is, and give a fuck about her?" She sucked, her character sucked, and the fact that she's going to be a significant character moving forward sucks. But Michael Fucking Keaton was awesome. I would watch an entire movie with Keaton as Vulture, because he is menacing as fuck without going overboard or being blatant about it. Fat sidekick was great, when I expected that he would annoy me. And seeing Gilfoyle is always a plus.

I loved Spider-Man's banter because he wasn't a fucking prick like the John Ralphio version, he was genuinely just chatty and overwhelmed, etc. I liked Happy and Stark providing just enough direction for the movie. The "diversity" was way too blatant but whatever, it doesn't bother me either. It was just so obvious that you couldn't help but notice it. As long as Peter himself wasn't changed just for the sake of diversity, I don't really care what everyone else is. I don't even care about the Zendaya thing, I just care that they wrote her character to be absolutely annoying and shitty as fuck.

Honestly, Holland, Keaton, and the fat sidekick were enough to make this movie enjoyable for me. Everyone else in the movie was really just window dressing.

I'll definitely watch this one here or there over the years. Solid 8/10 for me.
