That was a quick Google search, but you can take any footage of the game, post release, and see the same things. Only Nintendo fans think 720p, no AA is acceptable anymore.

XBR49X900E is in my bedroom and has the highest rating of any tv in its class, it's also the worst tv I own, so all the "your tv is the problem" is horseshit.

Next you'll be telling me the LG OLED and KS8000s are shit or that I have them all set wrong.

Literally clowning yourselves to defend horrible IQ.

BUT DID YOU GO THROUGH THE OPTIMIZATION SETTINGS FROM AVFORUMS?!!!?!?!?!?!?!!? ;-0

I bought the console for BotW and Odyssey, so I pre-ordered Odyssey. Looking forward to it tomorrow.

Reviews only mean so much, but across the board near-perfect reviews are encouraging.

Stoked for Mario tomorrow, as well as AC Origins. Great weekend gaming releases with Wolfenstein as well. Not sure where to start, but probably Mario with the pregnant wife

Just as an FYI, it appears Mario is designed with split Joycons as the main control scheme. Certain moves are harder/more annoying to pull off if using the Joycons attached in handheld mode. Apparently the Pro controller is fine though.

The more annoying thing is it looks like the motion control shit is going to be shitty for handheld mode

I watched the QuickBomb review video thing or whatever, well parts of it, and apparently all the motion control shit is indeed meh, but it's also super optional and rarely actually useful/used. The guy who was doing the review apparently had cleared the game with all the moons bonus things so I'd trust what he said more so than some other reviewers. Not that I care much though since I haven't played a Mario since the GC one or whatever, and I don't own a Switch, was just looking at it cause I was bored.

No idea what others thought of them, but I really liked the Galaxy games on the Wii. If you get the chance to play them, you should. I skipped Sunshine, so no opinion there. Mario64 was my point of reference (an all-time fav), and I thought the Galaxies were good successors.

Hoping Odyssey continues that streak.

Uh, I don't need to go searching for footage. I own the thing and on my 64" TV it looks nothing like that garbage picture. If yours even remotely does, something is wrong. I don't care how amazing your TVs might otherwise be. Either your settings are grossly overcranked or you're just being a hyperbolic douche. The fact that you think it actually looks better in handheld mode is not doing your argument any favors, either.

Holy shit, you're a fucking clown.

720p on a 5 inch screen is far superior to 900p on a 65 inch screen. Do you even how these things work?

Take ANY fucking video of anything at 720p and watch it on your phone, then go watch the same video at 900p on your tv. If you think the video looks better on the tv you're either blind or a liar.

Projared had his review up earlier. Said it's a lot like Mario 64, he gave it an 8/10. I'm hoping it's a lot like 64, was so good.

Lol, the irony of this is hilarious.

The vastly superior contrast ratio of a high end display is going to pound the Switch's little IPS LCD screen into the dirt in terms of quality. Jumping from 720p to 1080p or even 4k isn't nearly as massive of a picture quality improvement as the jump in contrast. We're not talking 480p here. 720p can still look pretty sharp even at 50"+ screen sizes unless you sit right on top of them.

For someone who claims to have spent thousands of dollars on high end display gear, you sure sound clueless as to why it actually renders good images.

Right, moron, which is why so many people are buying 65 inch 720p television sets...lol.

The bigger the screen the higher the resolution needed to keep the same image quality...that's a fact. And if you looked at my inital complaint, not that I'm even sure you'd fucking understand it, I bitched about both muddy textures and anti aliasing, neither of which your contrast setting has ANY impact on you stupid fucking rube.

Like, you're literally claiming the difference between 720p and 4k isn't massive? Really? Jesus Christ, you really are a Nintendo fan.

Oh, and few years ago there was probably some other stupid cunt who said exactly what you said only it was 480p and 1080p instead of 720p and 4k, they were wrong too.

Contrast setting? I'm talking about contrast ratio, which is, you know, the single most important aspect of picture quality, period. And any truly high end TV is going to blow away the Switch's screen in contrast. I never said the difference between 720p and 4k can't be massive, just that a large improvement in contrast makes more of a difference to overall quality.

And wow, the bigger the screen the more important resolution becomes..hurp durp! Thank you for sharing this rare bit of A/V knowledge.

You said that Zelda looks bad. It doesn't. You attempted to validate this via some godawful picture that bears little resemblance to how the game looks on a good TV.

You also said Zelda looks better in handheld mode than on your 49" Sony. There's no way that's true unless either someone sold you a Proscan with a Sony label slapped onto it or your settings are fucked. 720p (or 900p) simply isn't that bad, especially on a relatively small 49" screen that is perfectly capable of upscaling to a nice 4k image.

Well, I'm no man to judge, you enjoy your very high contrast pixels that are the size of a quarter.
