People shooting a Rein shield on characters like Hanzo is retarded. If you're just going to blast the shield you should be on a character like Roadhog who melts it in no time at all. Removing it from counting as damage would encourage people to realize that sitting there for an hour shooting a shield on a character bad it isn't useful and that maybe I could be switching to something that would help me against their team comp.

I don't know about your post on reddit, I upvoted cause I respect my rr's but of course its going to get shitposted on reddit. You're going to a place where, and I agree to this, people want champions that apply, ie supports, damage applications should be rewarded those points in bonus damage applied instead of the dealer for more 'reward' regarding their effort.. the last thing you're gonna have is them agreeing to remove the damage gaining stat from shields. A shot in the dart, but I feel like this has been stated/done before by blizzard, but I am pretty sure Rein shield is coded by definition the same exact way any other 'shield' in the game, therefor would negate how Symm, Zarya, and Zen shield also work too.. as well as Harambe but I figured that is apart of your argument as well.

The thing you gotta realize is that, okay sure, x character is bragging medals even if he is loading into a shield.. logical to make assumptions, but with 5 other players.. why are they not doing the same or competing to similar degree? Since Hanzo is the champion of discussion and example.. if Hanzo is such a shit champion(not the player playing it.. thats just adding too much the equation you can't really predict) Why is it that the other DPS be it anyone who is -known- for high DPS not shitting on them in medals? Medals only mean so much, and is just a gauge to an extent. I've played games where we decimate, I do a lot of work, and actually walk out with silv/bronze.. and its not always a DPS that takes it. I'm always joking with my Rein when we compete w/ Silv/Gold all the time. When I get my 76 main queued w/ me, I find myself struggling more for Gold medals on Damage. I've seen D.va's Hog's and Zarya's hold gold... and by no means should be viewed as a bad thing. If Hanzo is holding Gold, even if hes playing out of his fucking mind or not.. doesn't that imply that your McCree/76/Pharah;ect could be doing better? definitely. Escape goating his pick, or any other champions pick solely off the character they choose.. obviously there is an extent in which they provide. Like you need HP, some times you need more damage, more cc, more counter, more heals, ect.. variables. There is also a level of tact in which you have to address your random, esp if you're in a group. I have to tell my friend to shut the fuck up a lot of times because of in the off chance he might trigger the random into doing something stupid.

Albiet, you are probably right to an extent but scapegoating the pick isn't the right answer; there is a greater question in asking what the fuck is everyone else doing if the x player has Gold, in this case a Hanzo, because the Hanzo is suuch a baaad pick.. The whole argument extends from Intropy wrecking shop w/ Pharah while being belittled by his teammates despite having a 95% Kill Participation.

Shooting a shield as Hanzo isn't as retarded as you think. I'm not sure why that would even cross your mind that a Hanzo at any point shouldn't shoot a Rein shield. If his focus priority was that, then its not nearly as good as he could be.. but I don't think I have ever played in a game where, outside maybe a Junkrat, or Pharah deliberately focus a Rein shield. I can't tell you how many times I get upset at people who don't shoot a Winston shield. I play w/ a Rein main, and outside of bastion.. there are only a handful of champions I hear him cry about attacking his shield. Junk rat, boosted or not, and Pharah to name the obvious.. but though a rare pick.. the only time I ever have to hear him yell about someone hitting his shield has ALWAYS been a Widow. She can dish out a lot of good crack shots onto a Rein shield unpunished and with precision compared to the other two.

I'm not saying anyone shouldn't shoot a shield, I'm saying people think they are contributing more than they are because the shield boosts their damage stat. Then they think because of that damage number they are being more effective than they are and don't need to switch to something more useful. Don't get me wrong, I shoot the fuck out of shields, because a lot of time it is the right thing to do. But I'm also cognisant of the fact that if everyone on their team is constantly behind a shield and we can't kill it in a timely manner because of the character I'm playing we are burning a ton of time waiting for it to go down to maybe have a push, by which time someone has usually gotten picked and we don't actually have an effective push anyways. That's when it's time to switch to something that helps deal with the situation.

Rein shield definitely isn't coded the same way as Symettra shields. I guess the correct word is barrier not shield. Barriers function differently (Rein, Winston, Zarya).

Also, it comes to things like Hanzo because you really need to be getting picks on a character like that to be effective on him, and if you're just blasting a shield all day you probably aren't being effective. There are better characters to just shoot a shield with. I'm just saying if that damage didn't count as damage people might be more prone to look at what they are doing and realize they might be able to do it better as a different character.

Shields adding to damage stat isn't really a problem with the game but a problem with some people's perception in the community, and I don't think it needs fixed, just laughed away. Here's a shitty example,

In League of Legends, someone has top gold earned on their team from killing creeps but never got into fights and didn't push towers. They then claim they carried the team; just check out that gold score, bruh. Everyone else proceeds to laugh at the idiot and move on with their lives.

In Overwatch, someone has the gold medal damage on their team from shooting Reinhardt's barrier but never got any eliminations or objective time. They then claim they carried the team; just check out that damage score, bruh. Everyone else proceeds to crusade against the developers that something must be done to fix this atrocity...or they could just laugh at the idiot and move on with their lives.

Hanzo is like the fastest Rein-shield killer at any kind of range, so I don't agree with the premise at all, especially since Rein barrier is closest to actually being a good idea to shoot out of the 3 (Zarya/Winston/Rein). Winston you just walk through the shield or ignore it or it dies to collateral damage because it's weak as hell, Zarya's you only ever want to shoot if it's like 5v1 and you can murder her down. Rein barrier is pretty frequently effective HPs for his team and getting it down (from range or otherwise) is useful. On top of that, no one on Rein's team gets to build charge from plinking at the shield, unlike plinking at actual health pools, where their healers get tons of free charge.

It kind of sounds like complaining that Zen shouldn't get healing for his orb sitting on someone in the back line or Torb getting damage if he's sitting too close to his turret for too long. It's just complaining about players in certain situations playing the game wrong, it has nothing to do with 99% of the matches or players :p

I don't measure success by how many medals I have but rather if we have won or not

While I don't disagree the other side of the coin is it is impossible to objectively decide the cause of the loss without any meaningful data hence making it difficult to improve

The medal data doesn't really help identify losses either, it's largely fluff and occasionally useful for knowing you are doing well. If you could see all the stats for your whole team, you could see what you were doing maybe, but even then that's half the story. Things that don't generate data like pressure, presence, harassment vs. sticky damage, right place right time, etc. all are hugely important and largely invisible.

Are you getting more kills than deaths? Are you alive and getting value from your abilities and primary weapon during important team fights? Are you whiffing a bunch of shit or throwing it out for no reason with no potential gain? Those are probably the important things to focus on during a match if you care about getting better. Caring AT ALL about how your teammates are doing (knowing what they are doing is important strategically obviously) is only detrimental to you.

Venting is fine and all, but it means you're probably paying too much attention to the wrong part of the story if you care about winning or improving.

Since none of that data exists it's best to really only focus on yourself. No matter how gold your golds you still could have done more and played better to get the win. If you aren't improving and learning something after each death chances are you're just going through the motions. You can also try to social engineer your team to keep a positive mindset.

best way, confirmed.

I mean, using a Gold is only a measurement used to signify that you are #1 on your team, or within the top. It should be viewed that way, and everyone should be trying to compete to get there. Saying because someone has Gold, and isn't contributing.. what does that imply about the other teammates, and why aren't they at fault. I just find it funny, because 99% of the time this conversation comes up.. its always the Hanzo's fault, or someone who isn't on the meta report on the top of their classification.

Every character has a list of characters that make it extremely difficult for that character to flourish as he should. I promise you, Rein isn't one of them for Hanzo though. The only character that has an absurd amount of free roam on a team, would probably be Genji, hence why people cry hes overpowered. Half the gallery of champions that 'counter' him are deemed extremely under powered.

If your goal to to get someone off something like Hanzo, assess the situation rather than just flat out telling them they aren't working and could play someone better suited for falsified reasons. Simply put, the only times I ever find myself struggling against compositions isn't when there is a single Genji. I find it increasingly difficult to have to focus both a Genji/Tracer and/or Pharah, in any of those combinations. I could do it, but if I don't have the a compliment DPS.. its literal hardmode. I need to have someone on my team that can assist in the matter like 76/McCree.. use it as an explanation rather than telling someone they're wrong. Instead of trying to shoe-in someone who is clearly trying to DPS and isn't comfortable playing others. It's like asking a Mid/supp main to go Jungle or Top, sure its very well possible they could play it.. but it won't be to the best of their degree/comfort. Out of the tanks, the only two tanks that give me the business is Zarya and Winston. Sure Rein blocks shots, but he also fire strikes occasionally and charge with vulnerability. Zarya completely negates damage on specific targets and allows them to push the aggression, while Winston is able to aggressively get onto Hanzo and make life difficult with mobile shields. Also understand that 2/2/2 isn't the immediate answer to situations, its a safety net default that can work.. but note when you have three solid dps, it can make it harder on a 2/2/2.

It's never a single character pick that is an issue. It can be either/or. If you're running the shimada brothers, it can be difficult but also really rewarding. If you have hanzo/tracer, its possible it works but it's dampening.

A player skill though, thats something wildly unpredictable.. and happens at any rank. I find myself questioning how people are 75+ and playing like they do.

I use my elim medal to see how shitty my team is doing.

If it appears we'e losing halfway into the match, and I'm on Rein with two elims gold ... my team just might be shit.

Yea looks like it's a reverse of the current Hybrids. So we have Cap into Payload now we get Payload into Cap. Looks like a lot of chokes and high ground.

How are you seeing your (and others) medal stats during a match. I thought you only got to see them at the end of a match.
