Boy, if I had a dollar...

Yeah. That's complete bullshit.

So we had people over tonight for dinner, and I decided to make the big bowl type of Japanese soup so people could customize it as they liked. I was a little worried about an hour in, because the broth starts with just shiitake, garlic, and ginger. While that's boiling, it doesn't smell good...

This thread is a veritable gold mine of valuable information. Keep going, gentlemen!

Gorgeous, man. I know you're not feeling it in the cold and snow, but that's a pretty beautiful spot you've got.

Haha, lake effect snow is crazy. We get that here, too. It'll be snowing like white out conditions at home, and at work, nothing. That's just a 5 mile difference.

You really think I haven't thought of that? Come on, man.

Four foot trencher will beat frozen ground every time. Depending on how deep they need to go, and how frozen the ground is, boring is possible, too.

If I don't get anal on the first date, I kill her and move on.

So, in actual minutes, are you spending more time banging whores, or visiting your son in the hospital? Just curious.

I prefer handsy drunks who also use their mouths.

I get all our meat at a very fine price, and I grow all the vegetables we can possibly when seasonal, and have cold storage for things like root vegetables and hearty apples, and a large quantity of deep freeze for fruits and shit. I can hundreds of quarts of shit like tomatoes, applesauce...

Two wood stoves, free wood. Only had to feed one today to keep the part of the house in use warm on a butt cold day. I did laundry and did some cooking, but that's all the gas I used. Burn wood. Chopping it makes you manly.

Me, too. He gets handsy when he gets drunk.

Uh, yeah. Feed five kids and two adults every day, and then think that budgeting for food isn't a thing.

It used to be, and I have no idea if this is still the case, but the deductible was waived for fridge things in the event of power loss for an extended period, or appliance failure if said appliance is still under warranty. I have no idea how that differs from region to region, but there you go.

You know, many insurance companies will reimburse you for food in your fridge up to 500$. You should look into that.

I have a chicken guy here - he raises his own, keeps them healthy without the hormones and blah blah blah. It's just really good chicken, and whether I'm buying whole chickens, breasts, or thighs, the price is always below 2$/lb. I've gotten thighs as cheap as 96 cents a pound in recent years...

It is colder than a polar bear's ass here today, and I have a beef and Guinness stew cooking, along with some rosemary bread. My house smells like the house of a god. Probably not an Asian god, more likely some type of Irish deity, but yum.

Roughly on topic. SNL's sketch on caulk.

Boiled eggs made easy. Get a medium sized pan. Cover the eggs with cold water, let your water be about 1/2 inch deeper than the eggs. Put on the stove uncovered, turn burner on high. Let it come to a stiff boil. Once it boils, take it off the heat completely, and put the lid on it. Then...

That's an interesting question, Khane. I speak with my mother about every 4 or 5 days, and my siblings and I text almost daily. We're spread all over the world, so actually seeing one another all together at the same time is about a once every decade event. My wife, however, speaks to her...

In the dining room I would say you might call a window company to make custom thermal broken windows for the sizes you have. They'll be able to install them in the existing openings in most cases if they're not opening windows. And that is replacing glass, rather than whole windows, so it...

Someone needs to invent a sous vide bath tub. I would like to be kept at a very specific temperature while immersed in water, too. Screw this whole bath water cooling down...

Good windows are expensive as fuck. And you get what you pay for in most cases. What size and style of window are you talking about?

Sheesh, that's horrifying.

Freezer already has a hooker in it, or what?

Nice. When are you having us over for chicken or chili?

Whatever size you get, make sure it has handles to fasten it closed like this one: Amazon.com: Crock-Pot SCCPVL600S Cook Dining That allows you to make soup or whatever at home, and then take it wherever in the car without spilling it around corners and so forth. They are awesome. And...

Bros, it gets so much better as they get older. Not that there aren't challenges, but the introduction of reason and logic into the conversations makes life better. And, yes. It is worth it. I would do it again if I knew then what I know now. And, yes. There are days I want to throttle...

Slow cookers are great for some things. Don't make Grandma's pot roast in it, there are better ways to do that. But, if you want to throw things in early in the day and have it cook itself, like certain kinds of chili, and even some soups, it's great, easy, and you can cook when it's...
