It's an old DAoC guild. Other than that we keep a low profile and try not to recruit outsiders. Friends and family, and we've been together for a long time.

A few. Leveling to max only took a couple of weeks, and my guild has a presence there. We have players in many mmos. I don't like that style of raiding. It's easy enough as long as you don't have an idiot on your team. Watch a video, memorize the moves, then loot. Etc, etc. For me the most...

Yeah, I'm not understanding the NCSoft hate. I've enjoyed all of their published mmos that I have played and they tend to be much better quality than the average mmo. GW1 is still one of my favorite games of all time. GW2 is very high quality. Aion was a lot of fun for longer than the average 2...

EQ2 had very little to do with EQ Classic. It was seen as more of a group game for the masses at the time it was released. Everyone who was "hardcore" thought it sucked. Great game for playing with the family though. There are some things to like in EQ2 but it is nothing like EQ1. I would...

Have played EvE off and on since it was released, have a couple accounts. Usually only last a month or two though, just can't stand the actual combat. Everything else is good, and it looks like Smedley is heavily influenced by EvE. Which is a good thing. Still haven't gotten around to playing...

QFT This is why I only lasted in WoW for less than 2 months, and the same for all of it's clones. WoW is boring, no danger, no challenge, no sense of accomplishment.

I didn't play CoH but my understanding is that NCSoft canceled it because it wasn't making enough profit, even though it was profitable and somewhat more popular than many mmos still in existence. Perhap's I am wrong in that assessment but that what most people say is the case. I guess NCSoft...

True, but I was responding to Soygen's comment about GW2 being F2P and didn't want to go off course by getting into the weeds.

Did you ever play GW1 or GW2? What do you think of them? Imo opinion they are some of the best mmos every produced. GW1 was one of the first B2P mmos and was hugely successful. I loved GW1, even though it was very instanced and not much like EQ. It was still an excellent game in spite of...

I bought a extra character slot right after launch with real cash. Since then all of my purchases have been with in game gold I converted to gems. Mostly extra bank slots. Have a ton of them now. I do agree they have the best F2P model. I wish the game wasn't such an instanced dungeon grind...

GW2 might have over a million players playing regularly but I can't think of any other mmo that does (except WoW of course). There probably is but I just can't think of them off hand. RuneScape maybe. EvE is considered a huge success at 500k. Most mmos would be happy to have 200k plus subs.

Too many assumptions in your reasoning. One thing you fail to realize is at it's heyday the mmo population was much, much smaller. Most people didn't even know what a mmo was. I had never heard of EQ or mmos until one of my friends who worked at Sony told me about it. And most players were still...

Tough to do. One thing that could help is to make some gear account bound at least instead of soulbound. I think only top end raid gear and epic quest items should be soulbound. But ideally I would like to see more dropable items like fungi tunic etc again also. You can't stop farmers...

There wasn't an issue until you started whining and goosestepping. I think shard is a great term for the form of instancing I can live with. If you don't then I can live with laughing at your discomfort.

Lol, grammar Nazis always lose you know.

Well it's english. And in english many words have more than one meaning. And what would you call Vanguard's version of instancing? It wasn't overflow because there a set number of instances. No more no less. In the end it doesn't matter what the fuck they call it. As long as the players in...

Fuck off moron. Vanguard called their version of instances shards. I understand it's other meaning and the rest of the technical specifics. But when dealing with the public many technical terms become something else depending on what the devs think the players will understand or to...

EvE basically doesn't have any instances or shards. It might at a tutorial level but I forget. If too many people are in a zone the lag just gets really bad. Only one copy of the zone and only one mega server for everyone. Their server tech continues to improve though. Vanguard had multiple...

Isn't there instancing of a sort during the lower level missions? Tutorial and other PvE stuff I believe. Could be wrong, it's been a while since I did them. Which is fine. If EQN did the same thing for some solo class quests, etc but in a minor way, I'd be fine with that. The type of...

Who are those people? I don't know of any. What I see is a range of people. Some think that EQNext should be EQ with only minor changes but they still think there is room for improvement. Most are somewhere in the middle, keep a lot of EQ's danger and slow leveling etc, but bring in some modern...

Yeah, I recognize that. Part of the reason I didn't have as many issues with Vanguard as many others did is because I owned a beast machine when it was released. So most of the issues that the majority had didn't effect me. The Vanguard devs were at fault for not releasing a game that worked...

My guess is it will be like EvE but with a much larger focus on PvE. PvP will have a bigger footprint in EQN compared to EQ, but PvE will still be the main game. Which is the opposite of EvE. PvE is EQ's bread and butter, that isn't going to change. Also EQ in it's prime I'm pretty sure had...

I played Vanguard for almost a year and had a great time. Which is longer than any other mmo except EQ and possibly GW1. While Utnayan was correct about many of Vanguard's issues it wasn't the baby eating evil monster that he and others claimed. I still think Vanguard was one of the better...

It depended on the server, the GM and where you did it. Training noobs in low level zones was pretty much a instant warning / ban if you did it again thing. But on my server the high level guilds trained each other constantly for endgame mobs up until PoP. The GM's handed out suspensions...

The inability of people to find groups or camps spots was a problem in EQ. It generally wasn't as bad as you make it but it did exist, depending on the popularity of the camp, your class, and what level you were at. Being a SK during the time when they brought a xp penalty to the group I felt...

Many people left GW2 because it does have progression and GW1 didn't. In GW2 players do endless instanced fractal dungeons for +1 gooder loot. While GW1 didn't have progression and was hugely successful. So your contentions are false. Also GW2 is doing very, very well. So well that they have...

Too much instancing kills open world PvP though.

I say we make a mmo with only one big red button and "WIN!" stamped on it. Take WoW to the extreme and get 6 billion people playing.

It supports your view so you believe it. Yet you don't believe anyone who claimed otherwise when they played it. Still the same old song and dance from you. You are not convincing anyone who doesn't already hold your beliefs. Not following this thread because until something FACTUAL comes out...

You may be right, but the argument against SoE going that route is the fact that what you describe is just another WoW clone. And WoW clones have NOT made a lot of money. Plus, they specifically scrapped their first try at EQN because it was a WoW clone of sorts. If they really want the big...

If you had played more EQ then you would understand why most of us didn't like EQ2 much. EQ2 for the most part doesn't count, it is a pale version of what makes EQ great. EQ2 did some things right, like it's version of housing, that would be a good fit in the new game. But EQ2's combat? NO...

SK or Monk. Hopefully they both have FD and hopefully FD is actually useful. EQ2's version is pathetic.

Being able to kill any npc was a good thing in EQ and I liked their faction system. Velious faction was a pain but it worked, a similar system could be expanded on to include PvP.

Everything about EvE is pretty cool, except when I actually play it I get bored to tears. Love the PvP but I hate EvE's combat model. The spreadsheet thing doesn't work for me. If they make EvE with elves and trolls that works for me. As long as they fix the combat.

Rift is a good mmo to start with. They cover most of the bases and it's has a very healthy population. Another good game is Guild Wars 2, it's a bit different from most mmos and very popular. EvE is spaced based mmo, heavy into PvP. It is very different than most mmos and also quite popular...

I wish some devs had the balls to try it. Never experienced that and wish I had. Every mmo gaming experience since EQ has been a letdown. A lowering of the bar, a reset to something less than what was before. There have been improvements in the mmo sphere, but they have been at the cost of...

Yeah, there is something to be said for FFA open world mobs. It's a gaming element that was never really explored enough in other mmos (and unintended consequences in EQ). But it was awesome. Every server dealt with it in different ways. Most had rotations, even our server did for a very...

Nah, been a PvPer since DAoC. It was just in EQ that I had no clue about mmo PvP. DAoC and other games changed that. Still with my DAoC guild griefing players to this day. edit: EQ classic had a sort of PvP on some raid FFA servers. Guild vs Guild griefing at the endgame. Pulling whole zones...

ooooh Guess I'm rolling on a PvP server this time around.... By implication that means there won't be a "mega server" btw.

Didn't PvP back in the EQ days, was a Doom/Quake PvP addict and thought PvP in a game like EQ was lame. I also had no idea how to PvP in a mmo back then. But since then mmo PvP has become a kind of holy grail for many players, myself included. Even though the twitch skill is minimal, the set...
