Given that article was written in 2018, probably nothing. It was likely bullshit to attract investment. For a generic high fantasy Tolkein/D&D style world? Not really. EQ1's setting/lore was hardly the most original, and most players were barely even aware of any of the lore.

why are there no prefabs on the floor or walls? Would it be so hard to drag some skulls, barrels, etc into the scene? why are the walls and floors single flat planes? why are the textures so misaligned? Why are is there ostensibly no bump mapping? Why is the scene unlit? There are no shadows.

Why are the goblins so huge? Is this some store-bought asset they've chucked in and not bothered to scale to match the rest of their assets? The art styles don't match, either. The goblin looks like it's from a cartoony game like WoW or Warhammer Online.

I think that's the point. It's EQ reimagined for people who are sick of playing the same zones on P99/Progression for the past two decades. Pantheon isn't EQ reimagined, it's Vanguard reimagined with some climbing mechanics. M&M also doesn't have lofty ideas about being some sort of commercial...

From the stream it looks more like Vanguard than early EQ. It looks less like early EQ than the progression servers, even.

Cohh raised a LOT of money for Project Resurgence, also. All of it went down the drain. It takes a SERIOUS level of mis-management to fail to deliver a single player indie game with almost $200,000 worth of funds.

Another Unity scene. Surely to qualify as a "zone" it must satisfy some of the DikuMUD/MMO qualities that separate it from a piece of terrain with textures and meshes attached to it? Maybe it will be a zone when it's populated with mobs and people are connecting to it and running around in it...

It's not like many people are in PoP or GoD zones at level 40. You see plenty of people in Kunark and Old World zones currently.
