    Well, now what?

The phrase that comes to mind for me is 'Dungeon Master' a la AD&D. I gotta admit that's what's missing from fantasy MMOs, and there isn't really an easy answer until Skynet becomes self aware.

    Guild Wars 2

I don't think most of us are looking for a 'WOW Killer'. I think the general consensus is most MMOs are crap, and the few that aren't are generally only worth a few months of our time. For me, the hope is something will be new and fresh enough to play for longer. GW2 is a nicely different game...

    Black Desert

Wow, that looks pretty sharp. Plus, it's a sandbox, another positive. Here's hoping it doesn't go complete Korean mode on us.

    Lord of the Rings Online

This is pretty much how I feel, too. The game has a wonderful environment, but the gameplay is repetitive and boring. I last played about 3 months ago, but I'll hop back on and check things out.

    Xbox 360 RPG's

If you don't have Dark Souls, I'd highly suggest it, although it's a pretty difficult game. It is available for PC, although it's better on a console IMHO.

    Well, now what?

I think Shadowbane had an excellent design document and covered a lot of the bases nicely. It's a shame the code was so ghastly so we have no clue if it was really a viable MMO. I think there should be 'loss' and players should have skin in the game, but the problem becomes the same as early...

    Buying a car?

Our stuff fits nicely, until my wife goes berserk shopping and suddenly the garage becomes like her storage closets just overflowing with stuff. I used to fight with her about cleaning them out. Now, I just throw out her old stuff and play dumb. Every single thing she hordes has 'sentimental'...

    Buying a car?

I'm on Ohio, a stones throw from Canada. I drive a car with heated lumbar leather seats. I won't ever go back. Give them a try, and you might feel the same.

    The Secret World

Thanks for that info. I think I'll try and nab it onsale at one of the B&Ms, instead of digital download. Gotta love bandwidth caps. I'm curious also how this runs, although I have a decent PC so not too worried about it unless it is really that bad.

    EQ Never

Yeah, I agree with this. I'm not sure it's possible, but I was thinking some sort of Kinect/Sorcery/Move/Wii hybrid morphed together into a game on a nextgen console for a new MMO experience would at least be something completely different and fun with more potential. Again, it sounds great...

    Steam Deals and Digital Sales

For 10 bucks if you like 4x, definitely. It's a fun game. I was disappointed with Sniper Elite v2. I'd say no, personally.

    EQ Never

EQ was merely a pseudo computer version of AD&D and very popular MUDs, though. I think something new and innovative can capture similar magic, but it'd need to be something altogether different. I still think utilizing nextgen consoles with full motion kinect style gameplay with a similar...

    Well, now what?

WOW raiding, you mean. WOW itself has never required very much skill as it was built for casuals and streamlined to be for the masses as much as EQ was built to cater to the top 1% on each server. What I want from an MMO is something new and innovative. WOW re-engineered and brought as much...

    Well, now what?

Obviously. He had GPS, spoilers, and maps in 1999 and I was just a lost soul wandering in the desert figuring things out.

    Well, now what?

Did you or did you not have a map when you started EQ, Itzena? How did you navigate in EQ? Showing me a pic from circa three to five years after release talking about 1999 EQ means nothing and you are still missing the underlying point that there was mystery and danger, especially that first...

    Well, now what?

Did you play EQ in 1999? Did you have a map, or are we relying on google? I was there day 1. I did not have a map. I knew of nobody who had a decent map, outside of scribbles. I get the feeling you weren't around back then, and wouldn't know the name of Dorn B'Dynn or any of the other...

    Well, now what?

Having a few coordinates spoiled and a small atlas isn't the same as having a wiki of every single thing in your game noted with videos of how to do every raid. Early EQ had a lot of mystery and most early raids were done via trial and error. Raid strats were mostly kept in house. This was...

Does Goliath still have a penis?

How about consolidating all the (real) pics into one post? Easy for reference. For some reason everytime someone brings up Tranny, I have the one from Sons of Anarchy stuck in my head, and it makes me laugh...

A good/affordable cell phone plan for older folks

If your dad doesn't want an iPhone or spiffy new Android, then he's going to be far better off with a prepaid plan. Be sure to check reception, too. My family in Texas all use Sprint, even though if they walk across their house they lose their signal. I didn't have any issues with Verizon in...

    2012 NFL Season

I think they could trade Sanchez if they ate a big chunk of his contract. I've got to believe as hardcore as Rex has been in his support of the guy before, he'll probably start next year, too. If Rex were serious about wanting to replace him, then Tebow would be starting the next two games. I...

    The Wolverine

The problem Tuco is generally to get that ripped and that low in body fat without medicinal help, you'd have to go extremely low carb with heavy caloric restriction. He's doing the opposite, and eating 4k calories a day, and obviously not packing on a ton of muscle. That seems odd to me.

    2012 NFL Season

I think their strategy is to let Tebow go in the offseason, and to try again with Sanchez next year sans Timmy. Sanchez is due 8+ million next year, and I believe Rex still believes he can be a franchise QB. This is the Jets, though, so who knows?
  25. G

    Well, now what?

The problem with this analogy is there is essentially little difference between MMO gameplay and Steam gameplay. If all it takes is a friends list, chat, and co-op gameplay then why am I paying 15/mo?

    2012 NFL Season

I think there's a very good chance Tebow ends up in New England. One, there would be zero chance anyone would dream of calling for them to bench Brady for him. Two, Brady, Belichick, and Mcdaniels could spend a lot of time working on his fundamentals and teaching him. Plus, if they want they can...

    EQ Never

What made EQ was it being the only real game in town, not counting UO which was apples to oranges. That won't ever be the case for EQ Next. There are plenty of games out that offer a similar experience to early EQ. If your three points really did create a game that had substance and appeal...

    2012 NFL Season

I was thinking the same thing. I think there's more to this story, and despite what he is saying Rex just does not want Tebow on that team. Either that, or if Tebow steps in and lights up the scoreboard over the last two games it'll really make Ryan's decision to stick with Sanchez that much...
  29. G

    EQ Never

Actually, I think you have it backwards. I think lore, ingenuity, difficulty, as well as fun and shiny innovation are what would make EQ Next a smash hit. I have no desire to relive the days of Old Sebilis, Lower Guk, or of zones dedicated to Druid kiting. I think instancing should be used to...

    Well, now what?

I guess early WOW felt like Blizzard had a Vision? from a core group that really knew their stuff and what they wanted from their game and world. WOW today feels more like decisions are made by committee, with those stats, metrics, and data model's used to influence their next move. It's...

    SWTOR

To be honest, they should dump their freemium setup and move solely towards this: Selling additional blocks of content for $10 to $20 a pop. This won't fix the debacle that is their endgame, but it will bring in a valid source of revenue that players do not mind paying for, versus asking...

    2012 NFL Season

I like Dilfer as an analyst because he presents thoughts rationally and he doesn't think he's king of the world. Plus, the dude played in pretty much every city and every town, and with many systems. I can't stand Young. It might be just me, but he comes across as a pompous ass a tad too...

    Well, now what?

It sounds like what you want is Eve, but in fantasy form. Asherons Call 2 was an interesting idea, as well. It'd be nice if Turbine updated it. The problem is MMO fantasy gaming is a one size fits all experience.. As far as levels, item levels, and tiered gear well, that makes this design...

    Well, now what?

Bridge combat in the original Planetside was pretty fun, too. The beta for the original Planetside really was excellent. The release and game after turned out to be fun, but didn't have a lot of lasting appeal. I think the combat back then was too spread out. I've played a few hours of PS2...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

I'm not a fan of Pandas, but this is just silly. WOW is one of the few games that does have some balance between growth and consistent gameplay. Of course they are looking at things from a financial perspective, but they do a nice job balancing their desire for said growth, with the health...

    Well, now what?

I agree with the virgin MMO metaphor. There's nothing like the first time. I think the biggest problem I had is moving from a rabid, hardcore MMO player (EQ, DAOC, & even WOW) to a dirty casual. Deep down I still want the same crack addict feeling I had from early EQ and it's not going to...

    2012 NFL Season

Yeah, he really played an excellent game. Great pocket presence, great accuracy, and smart with the ball against a pretty decent Browns D. I'd be surprised if someone doesn't offer the Skins a second for him this offseason. That said, the Shanahan's might want to keep him around for...

    2012 NFL Season

None of those games are ridiculous long shots. Ind at Hou -- Tough Matchup, Hou will be fired up after their NE debacle. Still, a winnable game with Luck. Pitt at Dallas -- Given how Pitt played, Dal should win this game. Dal does seem to find ways to suck, though SF at NE --This is where...

    The Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings movie deviates quite a bit from the source material and does take some liberties. It does setup the back story nicely at the beginning. A lot of what Mimrswell is discussing is covered more in depth in the Silmarillion. It really answers a ton of questions in regards to the...
