My guess is 2 million. But it depends on them now. I feel like their target audience generally knows and likes the ideas in the game. They'll have to do a few things: 1. Avoid pissing off their market (Ex: Don't commit to anything like nameplates!). 2. Monetize the rewards by putting out...

Note that they're still in the, "Let's not cross anything off the table so we can get as much money as possible from our target audience.". Saying, "I've got no problem with nameplates, but others on the development team do" could be, "Yeah no nameplates is a retarded idea but there's a lot of...

I'm not accusing you this, but it reminded me of some of the hype I see around the CF communities. One thing about pre-release communities is there is always a notion that someone can just focus on crafting and become an independent master craftsmith without a guild to back them. This is a total...

I think them being at this stage is appropriate for where they are in the development cycle, but it's a little annoying that their response to most questions seem to be, "Let's talk about features that will probably never be implemented!". It's all just hopium, imo.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with exclusively using shared_ptr to manage your memory allocation of objects. I haven't benchmarked with the performance cost is if you're constantly incrementing and decrementing the usage count if you make frequent function calls and pass a ton of shared_ptrs...

I think it will be. It's critical to the continuity of the game. Besides that, the group of people who are successful in a PvP campaign aren't going to be interested in fighting the hunger indefinitely.

There isn't an easy answer. The two big parts of it are: 1. The gameplay has to be fun. You can't just enjoy it because you're winning, which is true of a lot of elements in MMOs. People don't have fun camping fbss because camping fbss is fun, they're having fun because that FBSS haste yo. How...

I didn't read the question he was responding to, but I'm wary of the kickstarter-period response of, 'I see you've pointed out some valid complaints of our design. Here's a spitball design that will never happen that muddies the water enough that we don't have to have a real answer to your...

    I use shared_ptrs a lot. They're fine. A lot of the times I don't use them is just because I want to manage the memory myself, don't want the shared_ptr constructs mucking around or just because the syntax of std::shared_ptr<Student> student; is more annoying than Student * student;

Ok. I agree totally and I don't think they will compress that stage since that stage is the whole point of the multiple campaigns (to an extent). Here's how an ideal campaign start would look like to me with a basic ruleset on Dregs: Day1: Hour0: Everyone spawns completely randomly all...

I hope terminator campaigns are the norm, but I can see the community gravitating toward campaigns that let them bring in the maximum amount of stuff possible. This is a case where the regular community will have an advantage in high-import rules over the irregular players, so they'll gravitate...

And holy crap the official forums are a mess but it's the only place with unending crowfall content to burn out on 2 years pre-release. They need to do a repeat of what they did in shadowbane and make a private forum where all the legitimate players are invited to.

3 things: 1. If the maps are large / sparsely populated enough that it takes a couple weeks to scout out the enemy, then there's not enough resource contention (until the resources despawn in winter or whatever). This means the guilds pvping over resources will be getting outpaced by the...

I think both small groups and large groups wil lgravitate toward the dregs. The gvg seems useless. The factional stuff is better for newer players who want to PvP but don't have a proper group of people to do it with.

I think we won't know what works in terms of victory conditions until beta unless their alpha participation is in the thousands. A victory condition doesn't even make sense in the dregs, unless they just make it such that every player kill decreases the time until the world collapses or...

That's more of a problem with battlegrounds than nameplates. In a FFA/open world game if someone saw you and ran away you could steal their caravan and they lose something. In BG they just requeue to get a different opponent and only lose a couple minutes.

I'm glad they're doing EK and Dregs first. Personally after GW2,ESO and AA I'm done with factional gameplay for now. And the Guild vs Guild world seems nearly equivalent to the Dregs which is just open world pvp.

Without nameplates you have no idea who you are fighting against or with, and they have no idea who you are. This adds a huge impediment to building a community and developing reputations. This causes the game to feel very lifeless for players.

A no map would would be cool. Especially if the different landmarks/villages/resources didn't have automatic name assignments. The community would be responsible for cartography and naming everything.

I wouldn't get too comfortable thinking that real problems can be solved by just spawning a new campaign with those rules. Not only does any new ruleset for a campaign need to be developed and tested (people underestimate how expensive this is), but when most people only play a game for a couple...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

As a layman it looks like Furry is doing exactly what he is preaching against. He doesn't like the approach that brought about QE (seeing mathematical possibilities and trying to reproduce them experimentally) and is rejecting evidence of it. On the flip side, the people who disagree with...

This reasoning is such a load of shit. WvW was really hurt by no nameplates because it accelerated the speed at which WvW felt repetitive. This was in addition to everyone having almost identical levels of gear after a month (Which I didn't mind) and classes being generally cookie cutter. I...
