I"m not sure if we provided a valuable beta experience, or served as a marketing gimmick, perhaps both. That said, trying to recruit the top guilds seems like a strategy worth replicating.

TLDR: Don"t ask for player feedback on an issue and then do nothing. Other than that, players shouldn"t expect anything other than legitimate bugs being fixed. I agree that beta testers should be there primarily to report bugs, and they should not be designing the game. So, here is the best...

Just like athletics where a runner trains daily, you need to work to be become better. And with this industry, there should never be a shortage of things one could learn. A 2d artist can learn 3d skills, a quest designer can learn level design, etc. The combination of art, programming, and math...

We still use the same dkp system, and for those in the guild it"s not a huge deal. Loot in WoW, as Genjiro said, is a joke. We run two raids to help lower DKP members get items such as BoH, or Illustration of the Dragon Soul.

We"ll see, 1 has definitely been proven true, but it can be improved upon. WoTLK is still pretty fresh so we"ll see about #2, but Blizzard is trying to have it both ways right now. I suspect Algannon will be a successful model for hardcore players, but hard modes just don"t offer the same...

I think this about sums it up. A random player can show bias to their class, inability to see the bigger picture etc. Certain players have distinguished themselves in being able to make very reasonable suggestions. There can also be a lot of miscommunication, such as the developers thinking...

I agree, good QA is really important. From my experience working on mods, the skills a good QA person have are organization, writing, and an overall feel for gameplay. The organization comes into play regarding how they test, as well as how they report the bugs. On one project, we had a guy who...

Very valid point. I was thinking more of the stuff from Omens of War up.

If you"re the ogre shadowknight I"m thinking of, weren"t you in Blood of Ro ?. Bull shit BoR couldn"t handle SSC, there were easily enough skilled people in the guild to field 25 top raiders required for playing WoW. WoW is honestly not that difficult, at all. Threat cycles for tanks are mind...

Alactene Arazanos What are those two names? They are the enchanter and bard that I trusted to lock down anything when I (monk) got lazy or fucked up. I could single pull anything, but with these guys we could actually just run into rooms. I definitely miss that feeling in WoW were you are...

I haven"t played TR yet, but watching the hotkeys instead of the game definitely is a problem with some recent games.

The single current trend I hate is the use of quests for filler. Fed ex quests, kill x of y mob quests, etc. They obscure the quality quests and kill the feel of a story. I don"t mind quests that say go kill named mob because he ate my village, if there is a ruined village in the zone. That type...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

Similar to diablo 2, I think Vanguard suffers from the oldest continent Thestra not really up to par looking with the newer content like Kojan. The non-revamped parts of Thestra don"t have the same polish as Tanvu or Ca"ial Brael do. The only evidence you can see in the pictures above is the...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

This isn"t a pressing issue but it is annoying since I"ve had it since beta 2. When looking around names will flicker depending on where I look. At most given times I see 50% of a name. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

There is a large amount of justified VG hate. Yes it is better now, but some of us played since beta 2 and the game at that point was terrible. As it stands the two things that are great are the world (art wise and in scope) and the music. For people where exploration is the number 1 thing, this...

Of course if the game sucks, like LOTRO, not even big names will sell it. But it isn"t difficult to imagine R.A. Salvatore, and Todd McFarlane"s names selling it. Also why is it unreasonable to speculate that it might take place around the Sword Coast? DND online was in eberron, and Bioware"s...

How many people here play Warcraft? How many people here played Everquest before that (or UO, AC, etc). While people seem to get fed up with their current game, there seems to be a strong retention within the genre itself. Only unlike brief things, it seems to take years to manifest. By the time...

Not to mention cheaper, I know if it weren"t for the extra 200+ bucks a year I"d love to subscribe to EQII to play on occasion. It is hard to be casual when you"re paying near the cost of a new game every 2 months. But to say that the market is closed to new games if foolish. Blizzard is a...

I do appreciate it, it is a rare chance to hear advice from those who have insight. Perhaps you could explain this somewhat further, do you want cd"s with the mods included on them? For art positions it is fairly straight forward with what to include, but not with design positions. That is...

It is hard to pass up on the chance to get direct feedback from someone so I"ll go into specifics here. What more can someone with no game industry experience put besides mods they"ve made? Sure you can put a few sentences trying to express why some of your mods were unique and creative but...

One thing to note about hiring inexperienced people is that they"ll work for free so it is little risk financially to bring them in. I know from experience that companies usually shun interns, but how else can you get your foot in the door in the industry? It is a frustrating thing to send out...

Speaking from a modder"s perspective and a mmo fan, a toolset would be amazing in its value and difficulty. Pluses: + Unlimited content, the players won"t get bored waiting for each expansion allowing for quality over quantity in development from the company. + The dungeon master...
