Charles Dance and Dan Bakkedahl got hosed out of their respective supporting actor categories. And the chick from Orphan Black out of hers.

Glad to see very few network comedy shit getting shoved down the voter's throats. Though the canker sore that is BBT is still festering away there.

Rooting for Matthew McConaughey, will be happy with Spacey or Cranston. Kind of sad that only one show can win this year in Breaking Bad vs True Detective. If Downton Abbey wins, we riot.

I wonder how they decided to make Dinklage a supporting actor. He seems like as much of a lead as anyone on that show.

Man, that leading actor in a drama category is BRUTAL. It's crazy that Jeff Daniels and Jon Hamm are the odd men out.

Also, what the hell is The Normal Heart? First I've ever heard of it but it's got a ton of nominations. Feel like I need to check it out now. Edit: Oh, it's about AIDS. So award fodder material.

weird that coven is tagged as miniseries, isn't that basically a TV show that reboots every season? How is that a miniseries.

Brooklyn 99 got robbed too, but I guess its season 1 and won the golden globes so oscars gotta snub. pretty dumb for BBT to be on best actor or show, the show is totally phoning it in now like Modern Family. Molly and Me? seriously, fat chick from that show over Brooklyn 99, Archer, Broad City, Mindy Project...

they certainly have a hard on for Episodes don't they, must be because its so much about Hollywood the last season wasn't that good

Hah, they have the season finale of Silicon Valley listed for best writing in a comedy.

If the "Who Goes There" episode (the one with the long take at the end) doesn't win for Best Directing in a Drama then there is no justice in the world. That shit was so intense and it really dragged you into it.

The networks pick which award category each actor/show competes on their application. So HBO decided to apply both Matt and Woody for best actor, Charles Dance for best supporting etc. The academy picks who ends up being nominated but the network pick the category they want to file for.

I want to say people were upset about True Detective not being put in the miniseries category for exactly that reason.

Heidi Klum & Tim Gunn, "Project Runway"

wtf kind of category is that? i did a bit of google and the previous years winner was all jeff probst (survivor) i mean he's a good host, but the others in the category made it a 100% win for him (which i guess is why they don't nominate him anymore)

and of course heidi and tim and gonna win again, no one even comes close. it would be more fair, if it was heidi against the others, but lump her in with tim gunn and fuck it, all of them suck. (even bourdain)

Speaking of that category, I used to be annoyed by Tim Allen, but after watching one episode of Chopped Canada, he makes regular Chopped so much better. Although, it's quite possible that Dean McDermott is just that bad.

Man, that leading actor in a drama category is BRUTAL. It's crazy that Jeff Daniels and Jon Hamm are the odd men out.
There was speculation that that ended up working to Jeff Daniels' benefit last year. It was such a contentious year (Cranston, Hamm, Lewis, & Spacey) that some people think the vote was split so evenly that it allowed Daniels to eek ahead.

The networks pick which award category each actor/show competes on their application. So HBO decided to apply both Matt and Woody for best actor, Charles Dance for best supporting etc. The academy picks who ends up being nominated but the network pick the category they want to file for.
I believe the actors themselves also have some say in which category they get submitted in. There was some discussion a few years ago when the actors in Modern Family all decided to submit in the supporting category.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences also has some say in it, I know. They rejected FX's first attempt to submit American Horror Story in the miniseries category, forcing them to appeal and plead their case. They indicated True Detective might've faced the same issue, but HBO submitted it in the drama category, so there wasn't a conflict.

The five episode format of the last season of Treme forced it into the miniserie ghetto that has no writing nor directing award. On top of that, not even an acting nomination for Clarke Peters, be it in lead or supporting. A shame.

I hope Luther and Elba get some love too.

Now, I've only watched two episodes at this point, but is Orange is the New Black really considered a fucking comedy?? It seemed fairly drama-esque to me. How does that even happen?

Granted, like I said I only watched two so far, so it could have changed a ton in later episodes/Season 2, but it doesn't seem like comedy would fit it at all.

Eva Green cheated. Ep. 2 of penny dreadful really should have nailed down an emmy for her.

fucking Taylor Schilling.... she should have gotten a Razzy instead of an Emmy.

I haven't finished the season so I'm avoiding the Penny Dreadful thread, but what in episode 2 did you enjoy? I thought that episode was awkward as fuck. Seriously, that whole seance scene just seemed awful to me. I was sitting there uncomfortably in the event my wife walked in and wondered what kind of retarded shit I was watching.

That's the trans hair stylist one. How the fuck is he/she nominated for this season? Did fuckingnothingthis season. At all. Total attention grab.

Didn't even think about it at first but just saw something about making history by being the first transgender nominee. What horseshit.
