I'm not surehow muchvalue the copernicus stuff has, but it's certainly not worthless. The biggest hurdle in taking over someone else's code is how well documented it is. Since it's an MMO I think it's safe to assume that it would be well documented as there were many hands on it at any given time. The art assets, as Wuyley pointed out, are easily translatable to any 3D engine in the event they decide that it's not worth maintaining the MMO "vision."

I'm stating the obvious, but ultimately it's going to come down to the big publishers (I'd think EA would be at the top of the list since they published Reckoning) taking a look at what they've got and going from there as to what it's actual value is.

A couple of updates:

Kingdoms of Amalur IP finally going on sale September 27th, 2013:

http://amalur.com/

What's funny is that according to some of the quotes R.I. officials still think they're going to get premium offers on it.

In other legal proceedings, the Rhode Island suit is going forward:

The RIEDC is going to sue too (which as a party to all the shenanigans also is ridiculous):

And not content with being left out of all the fun the SEC is now investigating the whole fiasco as well:

IP Auction November 14:

Amalur was set on planet earth apparently, or something:

They better have been planning a boss fight where you detonate a Thermonuclear Device.

My buddy is always pointing out masonic lore in popular culture. I think he'd have a heyday with those previews.

They were obviously dudes who worked on the clips themselves (prototyping how the voiceover would sound) and not professional actors.

Yeah, the entire clips were just proof of concept kind of things. Sketches instead of CGI, etc.

So wait, was the backstory for Amalur really on a post-apocalyptic Earth? That sounds so incredibly stupid. I couldn't believe what I saw in that first video, with the high rise buildings and what the voice over implied. Why the hell would they do that if they're using high fantasy? I could understand it if they had been planning to go with Steampunk or some sort of Sci-fi, but with high fantasy it just doesn't seem to add anything to the history.

The Copernicus Trailer: looks better than the entirety of EQN press conference :p I still wish that would have come out, it seemed fairly intriguing especially since i enjoyed Amalur.

Oh well.

It is kind of sickening the amount of work and thought that went into this project and it all came to naught. Regardless of what you think about Curt or the game, lots of people poured out their soul into this thing and he had a great many motivated employees.

All thrown away for nothing.

well all that money had to have gone somewhere. And as many of us noted, the marketing team seemingly failed badly as well. If they had been building up fan interest, I would have expected investors to have more confidence.

I dont know what the marketing team could have done differently, I saw ads for this everywhere when it was released. Bus's, billboards, television and even radio.

Yeah, the single-player rpg was fun and a decent success. There was a lot of word of mouth for the MMO when you consider it wasn't coming from a huge studio.

Marketing doesn't seem to have been the problem at all.
