They pack enough content on small areas that the runespeed isn't too egregious
Sub 100 agil you get a movement penalty, also if running in snow etc, roads give movement speed buff or at least keep it at base.

This game is pretty cool at least for the starter part. I've not gotten "deep" in this test and it was still Evercraft and pretty basic the last time I did. If the world they have is like 15-20% of what it'll launch with it could be pretty sweet game. A lot of EQ nostalgia with some QoL built in but not overriding shit that makes EQ classic like shitty keyword questing and sitting for mana. It's not awful like MnM can feel sometimes, they got the right balance of homage and modern gaming combined.

I'm having fun with it, but the problem with these tests is I make a bunch of different characters and barely scratch the early level stuff. I never get to the point where I need to rely on grouping and other players which is where I think both this and m&m are going to fall right off a cliff for me. I play weird hours now for maybe an hour max at a time and I think when all is said and done I'm going to have spent way more time reading and being excited about the launch of these games than I will have played them.

i played solo to 19 on a necro on this test. very doable

also saw hex knights, summoners, and bards soloing along the way.. there’s a few options

enchanter can do it but i never got a root, movement boosts, or really any means of quickly getting some distance. their kit needs just a little more safety from charm breaks in tight spots. on the flipside the generic mat-free rune all casters get is excellent but it can’t withstand 2 mobs at once

anyway, necro good for busy body type b dads

We're designing every class to be able to solo through. They'll just take a bit more time and miss out on some content. We try to make everything about options and setting your own goals. Many of us are incapable of running the marathons we did back in Norrath now. Ensuring there is content and progression to be tackled, not just for different play durations, but also for different play intensities is important to us. Personally, Duos and Trios leveling is my favorite.

From our FAQ:

**Solo Players**
Yes! You can absolutely solo all the way to max level. It’ll be a bit slower, a bit lonelier, and you’ll miss out on some of the coolest content and best loot, but it’s a totally valid path. All Classes can survive the adventure with cunning and care, but some are better suited for the delta lifestyle.

**Duos & Trios**
Add just one friend and the game becomes 10x more fun! Small groups can tackle Bandit Forts, Crypts, cursed camps, and stumble into all sorts of adventures across Adrullan.

**Groups of 5–6**
Organized parties will unlock the deepest dungeons, mini-raids, challenging enemies, and the rarest loot. These are the players diving into the hardest and most rewarding content.

**Guild Content**
Larger Guild-based Events are planned and will be revealed in more detail in the future!

enc gets an AOE stun at lvl 8 but I only made it to 7 so didn't get a chance to mess with it.

Charming in the early levels is pretty tedious and frustrating at times. Constant early charm breaks are obnoxious. Pets don't hold aggro for shit. Blade Turn at lvl 4 helps as it absorbs 3 melee blows. But I died a lot due to early charm breaks.

They really need to tone down charm breaks and/or give enchanters a real stun earlier than lvl 8. It also doesn't feel great basically being forced to use 2 spell slots for blade turn and shielding bc you absolutely have to have them both up all the time to survive charm breaks.

Hoping they send out a link for a feedback/rating report for this last playtest. I've got some feedback about some stuff I think they should look at, but honestly this thing is like 90% in a good place and obviously if they're still working on it the problems I have may already be recognized and worked on or on the back burner for bigger things.

For an "alpha" I'd say this was an A rating for the most part. I think calling it an Alpha is slightly misleading as it's been in development for years now, but what they've got is pretty pretty pretttty good.

As people have said here and elsewhere, it's got EQ nostalgia without the ball-crushing of MnM. Some people dislike the Minecraft style graphics, but the same people like MnM's graphics which I think are more of an abomination. EQ's graphics for 1999 were cutting edge for an online game. MnM copies the graphics to appeal to those rose-colored glasses, but in reality they should probably have something more modern even if not cutting-edge. This game uses Minecraft graphics because AFAIK it's the Minecraft engine. I was just hearing today that the zones/worlds are actually built in Minecraft and ported over and that's pretty awesome. May allow quick modulation/expansion too if that's indeed true.

Thanks much! We have Feedback forums in our Discord that also has channels that probably answer a lot of your questions. It's alpha because that's we're we are at in our iterative passes. There is nothing linear about the production phases. We have no intent to release anything until we're highly confident in it. The game is built in the Unity engine with a custom C# UDP server. We use MineCraft and it's robust suite of 3rd party tools to enable much more rapid content generation, amongst other reasons.

I hope you'll come over to the discord and share your thoughts in the forum.

Some people dislike the Minecraft style graphics,
I do not like voxel graphics on their face , but it allows for so much interact-able detail. More importantly the speed with which they can make new skins and monsters is so fast vs modern mmo graphics.

As a guy who played MC with buddies back when it was released and did modded MC and played MC with my kids, I dunno, the art style is just good (I get you are talking about faces, but man take a look at hytale, thats some WEW faces right there) and I'd place it in the same vein as the comments about WoW being "cartoony", they are using an engine capable of up-scaling this if they go that route in the future ( totally look forward to whatever april fools prank comes down the line, doing like "Real faces" update for april fools or something ).

The stuff they made just looks amazing. So many cool looking zones that just feel organic or plant a brain seed like the tree'd "Shadow" area, can't wait to see what the team does there, total hype. Every area you immediately know if it has been through a "spruce" pass. Raena and the others on the art team doin such good work, everything looks lived in, none of that uncanney valley feel in places they put their work into.

EnigmaFactory EnigmaFactory Had a question about the pillar system (the one where undead mobs spawn around a pillar or ruin). Had a few bosses spawn with no loot at a location in the mountains near osgul. I assumed the system is early days, but did yall want bugreports on that stuff? I thought it was a great option for "I don't wanna go into a dungeon but I wanna XP solo / with a group."

That may seem obvious to EQ vets but the reality is we are past the world of EQ a ways, WoW changed the mindset of players and camps and now my kids may have a chance to understand they can sit around with friends BSing in discord or voice chat while camping rare loot for a buddy in their downtime.
