Its like the Principal is letting the retarded kid sit in on your calculus class and now all the students cant fucking concentrate cause the idiot is over there reaching into his pants and eating whatever the fuck he just pulled out of them. Nirgon Nirgon 's trolling ass at least made it funny for a little while, but this dude is a net negative to the forum.

You can always put him on ignore and we will let you know when something good happens.

With a game like Pantheon coming and Sox being who he is, I'm still in favor of the long term potential payoff.

He does know not to fuck up too bad in this thread or it's back to the shaw/worse.

you're a fucking idiot or a bot. This is false.

Edit: who ever you actually are, you're jumping to conclusions and are wrong, just saying.

also, can forum admins force this fucker to fuck off and stop stalking? the forum edgeless is cool and all but stalking is another level.

Preventing crazy people from stalking is a little outside the scope of a forum admin

Ocean content was a very large and fun part of Archeage, so not surprised he wants to replicate it

I want to play this, but man do I dread the thought of having to join a PVP guild to do anything worth my time.

Will sharif play his own game, leading a guild? If his behavior in AA was any indication, the things he could do and the things he will know being the owner basically, will be crazy.

That honestly is my biggest concern about it. AoC seems like a checklist of "shit that personally annoyed Sorcerer in Archeage" in terms of a lot of the design and a chunk of that has proven, in the western market, to be very unpopular. Primarily, losing your hard earned stuff when you get ganked in always-on PVP and the ability of an uber guild to essentially dictate the play experience of the rest of the server.

He needs to focus more on some of the fun PVP aspects of Archeage that were emergent gameplay. Like remember the huge battles for Illegal tree farms? That shit was fun - you'd have some hard to get to tree farm and everyone came out to battle to be able to harvest that shit as it popped. You'd have people harvesting and others trying to deny the harvest/defending their own harvesters. The reason it worked was it was on a timer...you KNEW when the trees would mature once you found the farm. This allowed you to notify people and get together groups to try to secure the resources. The only person who lost out was the illegal farm planter, but even then it was a low cost/high reward situation if they got to harvest the farm. Replicating that "hot spot PVP on a schedule" gameplay is a good idea.

New World stumbled upon something that resulted in a lot of world PVP before they nerfed it: In Great Cleave, after they released the PVP XP reward thing, was the best PVP xp run in the game. In less than 5 minutes, you could get as much XP as you could in 15-20 minutes elsewhere. This resulted in lots of people going there to run the PVP missions, which in turn brought out the PVP gankers, which in turn brought out guilds to counter the gankers. The reason it worked is it let casuals and hardcore people engage in content that was potentially high reward, but coupled with minimal loss if you died. The general idea is similar to the illegal tree farm: minimal risk of loss, but high reward potential, means people are less likely to avoid the content and engage in it and it also concentrates the PVP/player engagement in a predictable area.

Instead, in AoC, he seems focused on the Shadowbane-like or less popular aspects of Archeage PVP. Like taking a castle/city and then demolishing everyone's shit, or stealing people's packs. The reason those types of gameplay fail in the western market is the risk of loss is much higher and the reward potential wasn't high enough in comparison. It creates a fun gameplay loop for the wolves, but the RvR is out of whack and therefore, the sheep eventually stop playing and engaging in the content

as much a I support AoC's development, I feel they will certainly go through their own design hurdles. Far as I know they have a vision and how it plays it out remains to be seen.

This biggest concern is theyve stalled in progress for two years. The MLM scam guy making a game tailored specifically for his interests with zero people who can tell him no is a problem for sure but not necessarily game destroying. At the least, everyone's known this going in for years now.

What has changed is the game starting Alpha 1 in Spring 2020, having public-facing Alpha 1 in Summer 2021 and it now being Summer 2023 with zero communication regarding an estimated timeframe for Alpha 2. The people I know with A1 access have even said the intermittent test weekends for contained scenarios/environments have been dark for a long time. Parts of the community including some of the youtube shillers are turning on the game because it's taken so long. The UE5 uplift buys them a 6 month delay...where the fuck has the rest of the time gone? Sure, you get some Covid buffer too. We're years past that now

The past mantra from the days when Valve and Blizzard were actually good is "delays are fine as long as the game is good when it comes out." That was 20 fucking years ago. It isn't the case anymore. Now delays mean the developers are incompetent and it will be shit when it comes out, just slightly more polished shit, as can be seen by the compilation of apology notes after shit releases recently. Intrepid Studios has been carrying 100+ employees at California rates for over 3 years now. The cosmetic packs can only go so far before payroll starts burning through the MLM money in Sharif's pockets

They need to get a playable Alpha server out in the first half of 2024. Announce it in a couple months, then push it back to Summer '24 around the turn of the year if you have to. Then you can piecemeal it with a low level cap, limited map and promises of updated clients to stretch it out further but the core game and combat need to be there with quality gameplay or this is going to turn into Fantasy Star Citizen in the minds of MMO fans.

To give an idea of how long this game is going to be in development, FF14 started development in 2005. It released in 2010, was a disaster, then shut down in 2012 while it was being remade into a game that didn't suck shit. That game (ARR), basically a complete remake aside from the engine and some map assets, released in 2013. 8 years since it originally started development with massive turnover including a couple years of running a "live" shitshow.

Ashes of Creation started development in 2016. It has already been seven years.

If it crashes and burns, then it crashes and burns. I dont understand why some people get so butt hurt about this shit.. unless they put their money into it, and then, well, who is to blame then?

I only speak in favor of the development of the game because from everything that has been shown, at worst, theyre going through feature creep. Which, if they ultimately cant get that under control - they can still release what they do have at that point and deal with it as development continues. A long development time is far more excusable for an independent studio, unlike anything that should even remotely be considered acceptable in a AAA studio like the ones you mentioned.

Ie - it just doesnt matter in the grand scheme as there is nothing "truly" comparable. The closest comparable indie MMO that actually released looks and plays like complete fucking trash. Let them take their time all they want.
