Yeah but half the fun of the A/SGDQ is hearing the commentary about the game and why they're doing things and the programming behind them making it possible. I personally find just watching runs on YouTube somewhat boring.
the Shovel Knight run just now was really awesome, they even had the devs on Skype and they were baffled throughout the run

I could have sworn they've run Faxandu in a previous GDQ. You should be able to find all of the GDQ stuff on YouTube.
The best overall run at a GDQ was the blindfolded Super Punch Out run by Zallard. If you have not seen that then you need to. It is hands down the most insane gaming feat I have ever seen. He was popping out frame perfect counters while blind folded. I can't do that shit unless the gamespeed is drastically lowered. Lol
The best dev commentary was from the Mask game. It was at the previous AGDQ this past January iirc.

It's unreal how big a cesspool chat is. They either spam HYPE!!!, KappaFace, or something the runner said. I watched chat during DK64 run for about 5 minutes and all that was scrolling was "by far" because the runner said it a few times. That's it. Just that. I think a group of orangutans would provide more intellectual chat than the troglodytes in twitch chat.

Only day I was looking forward to was tomorrow (DS2 and Chrono trigger - although Essentia annoys the shit out of me), but I have to go to a wedding. I guess I'll watch youtube clips after.
I may drop in and out of the CT run but I find RPG speedruns unbearable

I've found that commentary is everything for me during these runs. I've watched entire runs of games I know nothing about simply because the commentary was great, and turned off runs of beloved games because they were being narrated by socially crippled idiots.
The Earthbound run was particularly egregious because the guy actually making the run had solid commentary, but the dude on the couch would not stop repeating himself about how difficult it is to manipulate the RNG. I wanted to kill him.

You really just have to accept Twitch chat kind of like we accept that 4chan or 9gag or what ever the fuck those places are exists. Special event channels like this with no moderation or history are out of control. Then you can go to a guy like Cohh's channel while he has 30,000 viewers and chat is 100% cordial and readable.

I love this guy's commentary. Especially how he donates per death and then ends up dying 50-80 times and a few more extra just because.
