uh Catan and Dominion are punishingly complex for people who haven't played a game other than Monopoly.

There's a lot of "easy" games like Sushi Go that probably fit the bill. My favorite genre is hidden role/social deduction and I love introducing people to it as they are completely taken aback when they realize they have to lie to their friends and family to play the game.

Non-gamers I've tried Dominion on really liked it and picked it up easily. Maybe if you started with expansions it could be difficult...the base game is cake though...buy shit, but also try to get points. Catan, yeah I can see that...if it's a group that is starting to game once in a while though I'd still say it's good.

They can pick up the general rules of Dominion easy but they will almost certainly not pick up how to build a deck effectively and do anything other than come in last place eye moe.

Took a little break from gloomhaven to try Rising Sun, not my favorite game but it is pure miniature porn.

On one hand, how many times are you going to play and ruin potatoes? On the other, this was demo'd at PAX apparently, in all it's starchy glory.

So I tried out Ticket to Ride: Europe with my parents and my wife, and we had a good time. I've got a copy of Ticket to Ride that was given to me at Christmas, but what else is somewhat similar that I can spring on to some non-board-gaming-friends for a decent evening?

Love letter
Carcassonne
Cockroach Poker
Skull
Sushi go
Avalon resistance

A pretty nice deck builder that isn't too complex is Quest for El Dorato.

So been playing Gloomhaven....

I think I may have a slight addition issue. I don't even really know why I'm enjoying it as much as I am. In principle its actually a pretty basic game of D&D without a GM and yet....

Board Games are on the Amazon Gold Box today and some deals are 40-50% off! I picked up a copy of Terraforming Mars and the Venus Next expansion for $53

Assuming I have none on there, what are a few of the "most recommended"/"best deal"? I'm looking at pandemic now, but getting a few more won't hurt. Taught my 7yo how to play ticket to ride and she did pretty good the first play through.

Forbidden Island would be good for that age. If you've played Pandemic this is sort of an easier version of it. Dixit is another quick play one that works for that age and it may be pushing it at 7 but my 9 year old is starting to grasp 7 Wonders and having a lot of fun.

Adult side Dead of Winter is reasonably priced as is Ticket to Ride: Europe.

I see 538 stating it's $215 to get Gloomhaven, but the reprint kickstarter makes it seem like it's $100 to get into it... am I missing something? I'm guessing the price will increase once it hits retail?

I think the MSRP for Gloomhaven is ~$140. I actually paid $125 at PAX to a vendor there who sold out quickly. Also kudos to vendors who stick to regular pricing and don't try to price gouge like a lot of listings I see on Amazon

I will never do a CMON kickstarter ever again. This Rising Sun KS has been an absolute shit show.

I got The map and nothing else. I’ve been promised the remaining shit for literally months. Totally bullshit that backers are still waiting and it is at stores already.

They're usually pretty good at getting everyone their shit. Most of the time that I've seen stores get their stuff before backers was due to a problem, like Massive Darkness card printing, or due to the distributors mailing stuff in seemingly weird order. I'm not really a big fan of some of their practices, like lazy reskins, and weak play testing, but they do have their good points as well. They listen to customer feedback and adapt during campaigns, and have pretty good quality control and quick customer service, when compared to other companies. Sucks you're having problems getting RS but I have faith they will get it to you.

CMON is pretty slow but I can't resist all those miniatures! For some reason I forgot to fill out the survey for Rising Sun until last week so I will probably be waiting another 6 months LOL
