I think his only significant flaw as a coach is not making good choices on assistant coaches and coordinators. Texas was rolling when he had Chizik and Muschamp as assistants on his staff, and he hasn't followed up their departures with anyone close to the same quality. Because of that they have made some poor recruiting choices, and I don't think they develop players as well as they once did earlier on in his tenure. I think he's a solid Xs and Os gameday coach(not great, but not bad, solid) and he's a good teacher himself, but he's done poorly replacing some of the coaching talent that has left, for whatever reason.

He might also be too nice for is own good. Dude seems like a legitimately nice/good guy. As much as I dislike Texas as a whole and their AD, I've always liked Mack as a human being.
Just stop. Muschamp was here for 5-7. Mack is a horrible Xs and Os coach. Texas never developed talent well under Mack, they just recruited so much of it that it didn't matter. The vast majority of the players signed any program would take, even during this bad stretch. Reports are he is actually a control freak, egotistical asshole.

He only managed to win two conference titles in SIXTEEN years. TWO! He just finished the worst four year run of any coach in Texas history. Fuck him. VY saved and made his career.

So where is Saban RIGHT THIS MINUTE?! At least Texas is making things interesting - they could've gone the USC route and hired a dog-shit coach with zero publicity and fanfare.

He was at an award ceremony for some bama players earlier this evening. We should know on Monday how this ends up.

LOL nice selective statistics.

Muschamp was there for 3 seasons. 12-1(Fiesta bowl win), 13-1(BCS Championship game loss), and 5-7 as you mentioned.

And yeah, Texas only has 3 Big 12 championshipts(2 are under Mack) but that's good for 2nd in conference history behind Oklahoma(7)

You make it sound like he's Lane Kiffin or something, good lord.

Oh just fuck off. A Missouri fan telling a Texas fan that attended almost every home game of the Mack Brown era about the quality of Brown's coaching. You are out of your depth. We aren't Missouri, two conference titles in sixteen years is fucking unacceptable. We are God damn Texas.

You also aren't in the conference of the Little Sisters of the Poor anymore(SWC)

That conference was a goddamned joke for YEARS. Rice, Baylor, Houston, TCU, and TTech were all TERRIBLE during the majority of the years of that conference. Texas and A&M just got to beat up on that conference endlessly(and SMU for a while until they got the program destroying death penalty). Honestly, about the same as how Nebraska and Oklahoma beat up on the Big 8 in football most decades.

You step into a bigtime conference with national powers like Nebraska and Oklahoma and you aren't going to dominate every year anymore.

Hell, Alabama has more national titles than they do SEC championships in the last decade. Alabama has exactly 2 SEC titles since 2000.

I guess my whole point is, be careful what you wish for. If Texas doesn't get Saban(and I don't think they will) then there is a VERY good chance that the program gets even worse before it gets better.

There's been a very vocal minority of Mizzou fans that have wanted Pinkel gone for YEARS. Ever since we got stomped by Oklahoma in back to back Big 12 title games in 2007 and 2008, messageboards are constantly filled with people wanting Pinkel fired, his whole staff fired, etc. That's just ridiculous. Mizzou was a total joke of a program from the mid 70s to the mid 90s. We were lucky to go to a bowl every 4th or 5th year during those decades. Now Pinkel has us in bowls something like 8 of the last 9 years, it's been the best stretch in our programs history.

I get it, everyone is passionate about the team that they love but you have to have a little perspective. Nobody can win everything every year, even though we hope that our team does, that's just not reasonable.

Surprised Pinkel's head didn't roll afterthis bowlgame. Roof was open and it was cold as fuck (for Houston) that day.
Yeah, our defense kind of quit in that game. We had multiple NFL prospects and Navy was cut-blocking the shit out of them. We started the game off well and stopped them the first few times they had the ball, no problem and then the D just basically started worrying about not getting their legs/knees torn up and Navy ran on us at will. It sucks as a fan to watch something like that, but I really can't blame them for a bowl game that means absolutely nothing.

I honestly don't put much stock in any bowl results other than the national championship. They're basically just an exhibition put on for the sake of TV viewers, they don't mean anything.

Jesus, is it even a wonder why A&M/Missouri got out of this shit conference with this type of attitude from 98% of Texas fans? Man...

Foggy I agree with you, Texas should be doing better with their financials/recruiting/name. It doesn't mean your entitled to do better. I think you're suffering from a case ofAffluenza.

I'm still predicting that the Big 12 falls apart within the next 5 years. Texas is just unbearable, Oklahoma has to want out bad, it's just unfortunate that their state is tying their future to Okie St or else they probably would have jumped ship already.

OU has no reason to want out - they can field dog shit teams and still be competitive/in it at the end. Also, there is no chance they take off without Poke State - for the first time since I've been alive, the political power in the state is decidedly orange.

Also, word on the shag is Jordan Shipley told some random dude at a gym that Saban was a lock... slam dunk imo.

Meanwhile, AJ McCarron is running around telling everyone that Saban promised him he was staying.

This whole thing has been an enthralling distraction. The shag this week has been fucking hilarious/awesome.

Mack Brown, school officials to meet Thursday | Bevo Beat | www.statesman.com

At the Alamo Bowl press conference, longtime UT benefactor Red McCombs scoffed at the idea that Texas wouldn't be able to get Saban.

"Oh, I don't think there's any question about getting him," McCombs said. "When Mack came there, our budgets were an issue. They're not an issue now.

"Hell, all the money that's not in the Vatican is up at UT. If that's a problem, then I'm a part of the problem."

Amazing article about Auburn, Missouri, the SEC title game and the unlikely paths of the two participants in it.

This train: When two unlikely teams met in the SEC Championship, we saw a glimpse into the future of the conference - SBNation.com

The article is full of interesting statistics and facts, but this one stood out the most to me
This has been a big year for Missouri. In the Tigers' second season in the SEC, they took their first East division title; they have now been to as many conference title games as Mississippi State and South Carolina and more than four other schools (Ole Miss, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M), three of which have been in the SEC much, much longer.

Apparently the dinner is being televised on LHN tonight. So the 50 people that actually get that channel will be able to watch Brown's resignation speech live. Not sure if it is on DirecTV, may ask the bar wench to change the channel tonight when I'm out.

Mack Brown steps up to the podium. "Good evening, first I would like to thank all the kids for..."

"Oh my God! That is Nick Saban music!"

*** Fireworks ***

"And what does he have in his... Saban brought the steel chair! He's got the steel chair!!"
