Had you asked us a month ago, 75% of Missouri fans would have jumped at the chance for Pinkel to leave. Probably closer to 90% after the end of last year. He's been much maligned around here for the past few years.
That being said, for better or worse he's here until he retires. His adult kids all live in Missouri now, with his grand kids as well. Ultimately his ties take him back to Ohio, that's where he's from and where he coached for a while too, but I don't ever see a program like Ohio St offering him a job.
There was actually a lot of rumors of Pinkel to Washington after Tyrone Willingham was fired in 08. At that point it made sense, Pinkel was coming off of two straight Big 12 North titles, had got a #1 ranking and was within 1 game of playing for a national title a year before, etc. If it didn't happen then, it isn't going to happen now.
Honestly, I don't know that he's much better than Sarkisian. Pinkel has never been good at winning big games, he basically beats who he should, loses to good teams, and goes to a bowl game with a 7-5, 8-4 type record. That's who he is as a coach. He had a couple great years out of the norm when we had our once-in-a-generation QB(Chase Daniel) but it's been back to relative mediocrity since then.
Quite a few people want our current Offensive Coordinator, Josh Henson, as our next head coach. He's OC for the first time this year(and our offense is the best it has been in several years) and he was our O-Line coach before that. He has SEC ties, we hired him away from LSU a few years back, and he was an offensive lineman for Oklahoma State. When Pinkel hired him from LSU in 2009, it was the first(and still only) outside-the-program hire Pinkel has made since he got to Mizzou in 2001. Dude is loyal to a fault sometimes.
