Rumors abound that Manziel has a fracture in his throwing hand, happened in the game before LSU, thus his horrible performance in the LSU game(missed several wide open receivers)

Hope its true, and hop it's still bothering him this week.
Calling bullshit. It was obvious he was never engaged in that game and wasn't interested in being hit by LSU. He is on an irrelevant team and is just coasting to the pros. I don't blame him.

Hey FSU, how does it feel to be on the good side of ESPN's business interests?

I've got an easy answer for the question that article raises. Jimbo seems like a genuinely nice, likable guy and Urban Meyer seems like a pretentious asshole, so people will tend to want to give someone like Jimbo the benefit of the doubt while they would want to see Meyer crucified for any minor discretion. May not be fair, or even accurate, but that's what it is.

I don't know jackshit about college football, so here's my question:

Is A.J. McCarron not an NFL caliber quarterback? In all the discussions I see about QB's coming out for the draft, I rarely if ever see his name mentioned.

You forgot the "whiny" pretentious asshole.

And need to take out the "seems".

Kinda hard to say for sure. I think he is pretty decent, but the talent that Saban has stockpiled in recent years at 'Bama is just so much better than any other college program that you could plug nearly any above average QB in and be successful. Nothing he does jumps out and wows you in regards to athleticism, play making, attributes, etc like some of the other QBs in the country. I wouldn't want my NFL team drafting him (I root for the Browns, so why the does it matter anyway who we draft?

), but he has a hell of a college record

Possibly. He's got decent size and seemingly decent arm strength and accuracy. Just nothing that really wows anyone. Everyone seems to dismiss him because he doesn't really have elite arm strength or athleticism, and he also is surrounded by more talent than anyone else in college football so it's hard to tell how much of what he does is on him, and how much is just having an absolutely dominating team around him.

Honestly, his upside is probably Alex Smith, and his downside is someone who will be a career backup. He'll be in the NFL and make some good money there, I just don't know if I'd spend a high round draft pick on a guy that really looks like a professional clipboard holder.

I agree with Darkko. Saban has to have a serviceable and manageable QB that isn't going to make bad decisions and can go through at the least a basic progression. He has so much talent around him and that style of offense just doesn't allow for A.J. to be a breakout NFL recruit. Now, he could go 4th+ round and end up being the next Tom Brady, but he isn't going to be someone with a lot of buzz. Even the Heisman hype being built up around him is kind of ridiculous this year.

In other news Terry Saban pissing off the locals by saying that Alabama fans are spoiled and unappreciative (http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303281504579220393805048908).

Terry Saban_sl said:
You come to a crossroads and the expectations get so great, people get spoiled by success and there gets to be a lack of appreciation," Terry Saban said in an interview last week. "We're kind of there now."
Birmingham radio exploded with angry Bammers yesterday talking about how the Saban's need to keep their mouth shut that the $5M a year Nick makes should be enough to keep them happy. Her comment is basically a compliment, I mean jesus Alabama fans are spoiled and rightfully so. They've had a dominant program for so long and are en route to win another Championship this year. Not a bad way to be spoiled and it would be hard to to feel entitled after all their success.

I rewatched the 2010 Iron Bowl two nights ago and the more I think about it the more this year feels like it will be Kirby Smart vs. Gus Malzahn. Smart's defense pissed away that lead in 2010 and Malzahn out gamed him. Nick's decision to stay or leave is likely done at this point (as much as we'd love to beat Bama and take credit for running him out of town). Also that 2010 game had so many names on both sides of the ball. It was ridiculous the amount of talent on those two teams even though Alabama was ranked 11 at the time. The stakes may be higher this year but the big names... C.J. Mosley, McCarron, Kevin Norwood are probably the most recognizable seniors on Bama with some standout Sophmore and Juniors. In 2010 it was like McElroy, Ingram, Marquis Maze, Julio Jones, Courntey Upshaw, Dont'a Hightower, and some others.

Only a few days left until Judgement Day!

edit: Re-reading it sounds like I mean that Saban doesn't care about the game, which I don't mean to imply. He's a head coach and he's Nick Saban, that guy cares more about winning each game than I ever will about anything. Just looking at a little of the history and other coaching story that will play a big part.

Family stuff out of the way finally. On the road to Auburn and Gameday! Can't wait, nerves are pretty high but once we get on campus and well liquored they'll settle down. Not making any predictions because I can't be unbiased. The atmosphere is going to be crazy and should be a great experience either way.

Here's one of AJ and his Mom for the road, they seem close.

Freshman backup QB comes off the bench with 2 minutes left when Mett went down with an injury. Drives 99.5 yards to win.

First he scrambled 20 yards.
Then this pass to Landry.

Looks like Cotton for us against Baylor. Better than the Chicken bowl against Duke but these auto tie ins are getting old. Go to Chicken bowl, go to the Cotton bowl, go the Sugar bowl rinse and repeat. The Sugar bowl isn't bad since it's historically the bowl for the winner of the SEC.

Met Tracy Wolfson last night and drank all night with Charles Barkley and Frank Thomas. I'll say one thing; it's exhausting hanging out with people like that and dealing with everyone that wants to shake hands, take pictures, and talk about the good ole days. No idea how they put up with it all the time.

It's way too early to tell in the SEC, picking order outside of the national championship game goes:
Sugar
Capitol One
Cotton
Outback
Chick-Fil-A
Gator
And then a few more no one cares about.

From what I understand, bowl picking doesn't go *strictly* in order of finish in the conference, teams can slide up or down 1 spot when the bowl picks. So the 2nd place team could go as high as the Sugar Bowl, or as low as the Cotton Bowl. Heres some predictions heading into this week:

SEC football bowl projections: Week 13 - ESPN

The big clusterfuck will be if Missouri loses to A&M and Auburn loses to Bama, then you end up with 3 2-loss teams, SC, Missouri, and Auburn. One of them could fall as low as the Outback bowl(which the link above is assuming will be Missouri)

But basically, Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina have the top 3-4 bowls tied up(depending on if one of them goes to the national title game or not). Outside of that, teams have 3 losses or worse.
