Bought a large external drive today so I can move files onto it, rather than having them spread out across several smaller drives. The first transfers from an internal SSD went fine and fairly quick. Yet now I'm moving files off another external usb 3.0 drive to the larger one and it is acting oddly. The transfers begin normal/quick, but then slow to a stop for several seconds before starting up again. So its starting / stopping throughout the transfer process. Not sure where to look for a setting that would be causing this. Any ideas?
yea, i had a weird issue writing from usbC to usb3, idk why.

the roundabout way i solved it? i copied from external usb c to hard drive then hard drive to usb3

i know, sounds stupid, but it sounds like the issue you have. why is it like this? idk

Yea, that seems to work. Strange.

is it a shared USB bus, so you're effectively cutting any speed in half?

I have an MSI RX 6800. My Samsung G9 monitor does 240Hz 5120x1440 res. When I enable the 240Hz and Gsync, I get artifacts and glitching in games. Is this a limitation of DP 1.4? My cable? Any suggestions?

Your cable can definitely cause problems. I’ve had all kinds of weird issues in the past from a cable either being to old/outdated or randomly dying. No idea if that’s your problem but they’re cheap so it’s usually the first thing I check.

no your 6800 has dp 1.4 with dsc, it should be able to hit it.

however, try to turn off HDR, it might be too much bump it down to 8bit

so you should try custom resolution

sdr

240hz 5120x1440 8bit 4:2:0

(10bit is hdr)

Your text is too big and clogging up the lines.

Scalper? I sold the 3080 to somebody on FOH ffs.

Ya, I was afraid of that - Sold the 1080TI unfortunately, and Hekotat is enjoying my old 3080. May see what Newegg can do for me on the 3070, but probably not much.

I saw an article the other day about the 5XXX architecture killing boards, I wonder if this is the case. I didn't read the article but maybe you can find it. I also see this is quite old, did you get it sorted?

Did this...didn't help. It's me turning on Gsync at 240Hz. Gets all fucked.

Heh. Already on the way. This is the cable everyone was recommending:

yea i was gonna post that, thats the only cable on amazon that says 4k@240,

i even checked all monoprice ones

with dp 1.4 AND DSC, you should be able to hit 4k@240

So the new cable came in. I can do Gsync on, 240Hz 5120x1440 8bit 4:4:4 RGB. When I go 10bit with Gsync, I get all sorts of fuckery.

wait for displayport 2.0? lulz idk

you could try to bump down your res a little lower, since your monitor is a little bit less than standard 4k, 2160.

Nah, I'm cool with the 240Hz/8bit. Not fan of how dark the HDR was anyway.
