Regarding the darkest dungeon:

Don't bother farming up replacement heroes or a "perfect" team for the very last run (the 4th DD mission). It's basically story mode and can be completed with I'd wager any party composition.

So I wanted to experiment with Virtue so I loaded up 3 brand new Abominations and a brand new Plague Doctor and went on a long Apprentice Weald mission. Brought along Ancestral 25% Virtue Trinket and the Kickstarter 25% Virtue trinket because why not. 2 of my Abominations had the +5% Virtue trait as well. Purposely got my first Abomination to 100 stress... Focused. Swapped the trinkets with the Plague Doctor because he had the 2nd highest stress, bam, Focused. Next Abomination, Courageous. Ran into a Shambler summoner thingy but waited to complete the mission and see if I could get my final Abom to become Virtuous. Ran between hallways until I got enough stress and bam, Focused. So I popped both my campfires right next to the Shambler alter and went in. It was an absolute slaughter. At one point one of my Abominations had +60% crit and +60 Accuracy just from Focused buffs alone. My first Abomination's Rake would insta clear the Capperclaw dudes before they could attack and my Plague Doctor just kept the Shambler blighted.

Was pretty damn fun. Wasn't sure if it was going to work, because I can't find base Virtue % anywhere. Some people say it is as low as 5% and others as high as 40%. With the 2 trinkets and the trait you are at +55%. It was a little bit of a pain swapping trinkets in between battles, but it was worth it. Killing The Shambler with 4 level 0's and no healer was great. The Kickstarter trinket is cheating I guess, but it's not that great, it's only 5% additional Virtue chance than another rare trinket and the -10% Stress Damage actually worked against me. So now I'm wondering if I was just lucky or if the Virtue mods scale higher than they appear to.

Have I killed The Shambler too many times or something? He just dropped 250 gold and a single Jade upon killing him in a Veteran dungeon. Last time he just dropped 1 Trapezohedron as well.

Also, here's an amazing mod made by an actual Darkest Dungeon dev:Welcome to Pitch Black Dungeon 5.0 - Delivered Unto Damnation : darkestdungeon

He's also made another one that is pretty amazing too. You'd be surprised how extensive the changes are. 70 different potions, every dungeon has a mini boss, etc. They *completely* change the game. The team is working on mod resources as their top priority right now, so we can expect to see some amazing mods for this game soon.

I am officially mega addicted to this game. I don't know why I enjoy it so much, but it's all I can play. I keep creating new saves and re-playing, and I haven't even touched the Darkest Dungeon yet. My newest save I am using Kickstarter trinkets and heroes just for fun to gear up thru the early game. I won't use any for Champion or higher dungeons though. But it's really fun to twink your heroes. There's over 270 kickstarter trinkets, but I've found the best ~20 or so. I'll post a list if anyone is interested. God I love running the Cove. I just had a Medium Cove mission where I was able to remove 5 negative quirks. It's definitely worth it to bring along curio supplies. I am getting a little annoyed at the quest system though. I've killed all Apprentice/Veteran bosses, and so far only 1 Champion boss mission has appeared. So I am running other random Champion missions on all 4 areas over and over again trying to get a boss mission to appear, but I am over a dozen missions in and I still can't get any to pop up other than The Hag Witch, whom I am avoiding do to PTSD the last time I had a full party wipe on her.

I wouldn't bother with the Pitch Black Dungeon mod at this point. It's just slamming your dick in the door levels of difficulty for no real return. All the class "rebalancing" it claims to have done is mostly just adding clears corpses to a few abilities and adding a bit of damage to a few skills, really nothing to write home about. Almost all the work appears to have gone in to making monsters in to various of levels of fuckery, like adding the siren charm to cultists, and making undead corpses all reanimate, or all the weald corpses cast blights at you every turn. I guess if you're super masochistic it might be fun?

The game sounds like something I should enjoy, but I really hate losing by design, even more by shitty RNG, so I'm pretty sure I would quit the moment my party dies. I'll probably get it on sale.

Wow I just realized that every single class has a unique and specific thing to say if you try and put them in a stress relief environment that they won't do. Flagellant Jester is by far the funniest. He talks of wanting to gaze down at pools of his own blood, and the pleasure of the whip, etc. Faithless Occultist is also my hero haha.

The other really cool mod is the one this guy did that improves on class versatility and class combinations. It's really amazing what they can do. It seems like modding this game is very easy and they are working on adding proper modding tools as well, which is really something special to look forward to. I can't wait. The design style of this game allows for some very grand, large mods that don't take an insane amount of time to create.

Lol it's crazy how much easier the game gets when you know what you're doing. When I first started the Apprentice Swing King guy messed me up. Now I just did the Champion one without taking a single point of damage from the Swing King. He was hitting for 0. I had him up to -305% damage -60 acc and -60% crit at one point. Love the different hero possibilities/combos. Full debuff party is fun. Arbalest/Occultist/Vestal/Leper. All with a different kind of increased chance to debuff trinket. Arbalest with her very rare bandana, occultist with his very rare cauldron, vestal with profane scroll and leper with a simple debuff amulet. Not a single debuff failed in over 12 rounds. So yeah when we were talking about this 2 weeks ago when I was new, yes, it's definitely possible to get him to 0 damage, even with the mark increasing his damage by 100%. I didn't heal once the entire fight. Just spammed debuffs until they eventually killed him. Which by the way, Swing King aside, it's a damn good party composition. All 4 characters can debuff, all 4 can heal, 2 can stun, 2 can mark, 2 can knockback/clear corpses. It's good stuff.

Also really fell in love with "Femme Fatale" team today too. It's with Vestal/Plague Doctor/Grave Robber/Hellion. Arbalest isn't femme or isn't fatale enough I guess.

Just finished NG+. Only had one death which was a Bounty Hunter. He died because I was running a Long Champion mission in the Weald with a level 3 Arbalist and I completely forgot to buy a single torch so she got way too stressed and then I missed a few attacks on a lone monster, reinforcements, retreat fail, fail etc. Lost his trinkets too :/. But other than that, everything went pretty smoothly. I wish it was a bit harder, but without the 91 week requirement, because that makes it less interesting since you just skip all the bosses. I'm over 200 weeks in now without ever having seen a single Madman box (Aria Box, Crescendo Box and Overture Box). They are supposed to be relatively common so I don't know what the hell the deal is.

Anyways, I've now beaten the game 3 times and I still enjoy playing it. Maybe I'm crazy. I'm really excited for the future of mods with this game and how RedHook wants to accommodate modders in the best way they can and are completely supportive of mods. Hell, one of their own devs is making mods!

So anyways, now I'm going to do a dark NG+ run, but am going to use backer trinkets an heroes just for fun. I've compiled a list of the best trinkets for anyone interested. You'll find the full list in a link below.

Speed, as most of you know, is king in this game. There aren't that many great speed trinkets, but there are enough to make your party much more versatile and allow more unique party compositions. But be warned, while it is true that if you lose a backer hero to death, you can get them back at level 0 from the Nomad Wagon, the same is not true for Backer trinkets. So if you lose a backer trinket and try to get it back, it will say "invalid trinket". I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended, but for now, that's the way it is. So be warned!

Backer trinkets aren't the end all, be all, despite what they might look like on paper. In NG+ you'll still be using at least half normal trinkets, if not more. Most of my new NG+ runs use only 2-3 backer trinkets for most party compositions. Stuff like Blasphemous Vile just simply can't be beaten. Plus, the backers that made the trinkets were really simple D3 minded and there are very very few utility trinkets and most everything revolves around simple stuff like CRT/DMG/PROT/HP. I don't think there's a single trinket with +Bleed or +Stun or +Blight, etc.

So without further ado, here are what are in my opinion, the beset backer trinkets.

Well, that's more than enough and more than I intended on posting for how little people play this game (it's a great list for myself nonetheless). But I'll try to post more later if there's any interest. If you just wanna skip through to the best, I've posted most of the best ones, or at least my personal favorites highlighted in red, but there's a few more for the more selective people. Hope someone enjoys. To me it's the equivalent of twinking. I've beaten the game, and farmed it, and now I want to enjoy twinking.

I feel like if I used any of those trinkets, the game would become trivial.

Then again, Im just starting to reliably clear veteran level dungeons. Have a 21 total roster, with maybe 12 level 3's, 2 level 4s, and the rest are...expendable resour- I mean, uh, level 1-2 up and coming reinforcements.

So I was tired of waiting for more people to make decent mods and started giving it a go myself. I LOVE how easily they have made this game moddable. I have almost no prior experience with this stuff outside of some moderate code for MQ2 scripts and such. I am learning loads. My goal is to make all the classes as customizable as D2 classes were.

Just a fraction of the things I've done so far and that pop into mind:

Trinket Slots: 3. You can now use up to 3 trinkets on any hero.

Class specialists: I've given every single class a version of + damage to any given type of monster. So for instance, as you all know, the Occultist does bonus damage to Eldritch with 2 of his attacks and the Vestal/Crusader do bonus to Unholy, etc. I've given every other class some variation that makes sense. The Highwayman's Dirk Stab does bonus damage to Humans, because he's a bandit, he's going to know how to hurt humans. The Jester's Dirk Stab does bonus to Eldritch, because I consider him a Bard and Bards have knowledge of the supernatural. Those are just two examples, but every class now has a bonus damage to some sort of creature, making you choose more wisely and tactically who you bring into which dungeon.

To compensate for this I've made most monsters a little more difficult in one way or another, for instance, all monsters have a 15% chance to inflict a small amount of stress on any successful attack, to make managing stress more difficult (because once you understand the game, you NEVER need to use the stress buildings, and I think that's a waste). There's some other stuff as well, like I've made stunlocking more difficult.

Added more versatility to many classes. Leper's Chop now moves him Forward 1, to help him recover from being pushed back/shuffled, and he can use it from the 3rd position. Houndmaster's group stress heal is now guaranteed, but heals for a little less.

Many trinkets are now more powerful, but also more limiting. The Vestal's Profane Scroll now gives +30% damage if she's in position 2, up from 15% blanket increase in damage. And her prot is now +20% in position 2, while her healing is decreased. So you can turn her into a more tanky damage dealer if you want to. Also made Judgment usable in ranks 1 and 2, to compensate for the fact that she now only has 3 usable skills in position 2 since her group heal is gutted with Profane Scroll. She's a lot of fun as a damage dealer! To compensate for the lack of a Vestal healer (or the need to bring 2 Vestals along if you don't want to use an Occultist) I've given The Crusader the ability to use his Battle Heal in ranks 3 and 4 and changed his Very Rare trinket to increase his healing by 33% so you can use him as a healer/stress healer. But the trinket also reduces his prot/hp to make more sense if he is in a healing role. His Holy Lance is his damage ability in his Healer Role, as it no longer pulls him forward and can target 234. If he gets shuffled he can use his Bulwark which no longer marks him, but does increase his PROT/Dodge and pushes him back 2. If you decide to run him as a normal Crusader, Stunning Blow now takes the place of Holy Lance in terms of getting him back into position, as it move him forward 2.

Made debuffing more important, to motivate more tactical battles, since stunlocking isn't exactly rocket science. For example, the Vestal's Hand of Light which reduces enemy dmg/acc now affects both ranks 1 and 2, but does almost no damage, however it gives her a small dodge buff. I've done this with a lot of abilities. Hound's Harry, which before was almost always worthless since you want to focus down 1 enemy, now has a chance to apply a -spd/-acc debuff to all enemies it hits. These are just two of many examples.

Changed several quirks to make more sense and be more useful and or more detrimental and make more sense. I copied another modder who changed Diurnal (usually it's +20% stress damage if torch is <26) to +20% chance party surprised if torch is <26. I did the same with the positive version, Night Owl, which reduces the chance your party is surprised by 20% if torch is below 26. Changed "Healer's Gift" from +20% heal skills while camping to +10% heal skills because I thought it was stupid there were no healing quirks in game. Abomination can now be used with the Leper and Crusader, but the Vestal still refuses. Made the Jester's Finale absolutely devastating with +60% damage and +20% crit with 130 acc at level 5. Removed the debuff it causes, but gave it a very high chance to stun the Jester for a round.

Basically my goal is to make the game as customizable as possible thru various quirks, trinkets and abilities. I'm having an absolute blast!! If you love Darkest Dungeon, but have already beaten it once or twice and still want to play, but aren't super motivated to do so, try modding! It is insanely fun and it's like playing a new game. It's so easy too. I've had one major fuckup so far, where I lost every single quirk on every single hero on my NG+ game, but it was no biggy because I'd already beaten it. So I use that save file as a tester every time I make a change, and I backup my save file regularly now after learning from that hard lesson. A single missing } in my quirk.library = all quirks permanently gone with no way to recover them LOL.

Highwayman got some nice buffs!!

Class Changes

Highwayman
Duelist Advance - Added Riposte
Open Vein - Added Bleed Resist Debuff
Wicked Slice - Increased DMG mod to +15%
Increased Min Damage for L4/L5 weapons from 7/8 to 9/8
HP changed from 22/26/30/34/38 to 23/28/33/38/43

They also added a way to trade heirlooms at a rate of 3:1. Haven't had a chance to play with the Antiquarian yet, but can't wait.

Edit: So with the Antiquarian in your party, you get drops of Small and Large antiques, each worth 250 gold and 1,000 gold respectively. I did a normal light run and ended up with about 6 small ones and 3 large ones, so not bad. They stack. She makes gold stack to 2,000, up from 1,500. She also has a camp skill that produces a random trinket. Chances are as you'd expect. I've made it so she can very rarely produce a random kickstarter trinket (as I've done with the Nomad Wagon). She's good for light runs, bad for dark runs. She is decent in a blight group because she provides a blight debuff and at higher levels it isn't terrible damage (4/tick at max level). She can forcefully make someone guard her and it gives a huge buff, which works really well with the new Highwayman's riposte.
