I'll be retiring my 2500k in a few months. It was hands down the best CPU I've ever bought.

I'm still rocking a 2500k and just upgraded to a 970 gpu about 18 months ago. Gonna ride this sandy bridge into the sunset!

My 2500K has been a beast since 2011, OC'ed the entire time. I think I may upgrade in 2018 when the 10nm generation CPU's finally come out. Gonna, be a sad day when I move off my 2500K, love that fucker.

iirc intel wont be releasing desktop cpus in 10nm.

AMD is supposed to be releasing their 12nm Ryzen in 2-4 months.

Still running an OC'd 2600K myself, and I'm just waiting for the new 8 core/12nm Ryzen X CPUs to drop as well.

If they can produce the expected 10-15% gains in performance, I'll be happy to leave INTEL in my past. Good riddance to their lazy ass, cancerous, anti-consumer practices for good.

Got the case on Tuesday but the rest of the parts didn't even ship until Wednesday. In that time they've gone from Indiana to Ohio and have been bouncing around to various locations in Ohio over the last 36 hours despite being scheduled to be delivered to me in NY today.

Fuck you FedEx.

Nothing better than that feeling. I just did a build recently and I remembered to boot it up and make sure everything worked BEFORE bundling all the wiring behind the cable management panel, felt good.

Anyone have monitor recommendations?
Its been a while since I really bought one. Last time I actually researched, was Apple cinema display like 20 years ago, then wacom.
2nd monitor has been "el cheapo" for years now.

this is the current monitor, Im looking to replace. which, looking into, is better then I thought, honestly. But still, not the 4k, etc I was thinking.
UltraSharp U2412M 60.9cm (24) Monitor with LED Details | Dell India

Uses: a Bit of everything.
For work, it will act as script, reference material, adobe bridge, and netflix/movies.
After work, it will be primary display for games and movies.

Quick looking at Dell's.
saw this thing,

tempting.. price point higher than I intended. sale would be nice. not sure I really need that color calibration, etc on secondary screen..

This other 5k dell..

they are both 60hz capped.
Should I be looking at 4k monitors, or 144hz ones? they seem mutually exclusive.

I guess bandwidth is the issue.

That 1.5k monitor has displayport 1.4. But, not

Friend has, and recommended.

Also toms hardwares 27"gaming pick.
at 750, also more along the price point I was hoping for.

I feel the 24"->27", and 1920x1200->2560x1440 will basically cancel each other out though.

ultra hd is still tempting. I dont know if I value resolution or refresh more. just not into competitive fps these days.

But, that one dell is of the table. wacom doesnt even have that color depth, etc. nor, vid card support 10bit color.

Depends what your gaming tastes and preferences are at. If FPS over 60 hz is not a priority then a bigger monitor with more realestate might result in a nicer all around all around experience than 144hz, especially for all non gaming uses.

Here is a mix of VA and IPS models from BenQ and Philips I would propose for consideration in all around use. Not sure of recent availability aside from the first in list. If you are moving up from 1080p @ 24 inches I would recommend 32" as a minimum for 4K, especially if you plan to work on it. 40"+ size is best, though the pickings get slimmer in variety at that screen size and the gaming quality features decline.

Philips BDM4065UC Review | PC Monitors

I use 2 BenQs and the Philips 4037. No flicker on any of these whereas the older Philips 4350 and 4065 might have PWM backlight flicker depending on your settings. The BenQs are great for erogonics and picture quality and angles, much better than the Philips. BenQs are also great on eyes, and provide easier adjustments and tweaks for colours to reduce eye fatigue for long streches of coding & reading.

However the 40" screen is still great to look at and very immersive for gaming. It also provides a much more legible for work area without any scaling compared to a 32 inch screen at 4k.

Unfortunately the Philips is heavy and IMO need a custom VESA monitor arm to shine because of the curved screen and VA screen viewing angles and size. I use an M8 arm instead of the built in stand: M8 | Adjustable Monitor Arm from Humanscale

No drawbacks to BenQs except that they are not 40" and BenQ does not make a 40"+ model yet.

Thats a good point I suppose.

Viewing distance is 19" to wacom, 25" to desktop monitor while working.
I move around alot, but I think 30" while gaming.

UHD at 32" is 137ppi, with optimal viewing distance of 25"+
UHD at 40", is 110ppi, with optimal viewing 31"+.

(1920x1200 at 24" is 36"+ optimal. 2560x1440 at 27" is 32"+)

40in would be just too big for my desk honestly. I have a 2 monitor setup. this is not a single 40in screen I am looking for/using.
not me, random search from internet. but basically my setup.

but I would agree, uhd should be 32in at least.

Hard to say if I value resolution or refresh more, since I never had either. haha. Resolution is easier to visualize.

BenQ PD3200U
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q 27" 2560x1440 IPS 165Hz 4ms G-SYNC

I think the asus is winning. A small resolution increase. large refresh. g-sync. Improvements on all fronts.

UHD would probably be really nice for work, etc.. but I have doubts the 1070 can handle it for gaming.

At this point if you're buying amd you're only doing it because for some reason you're mad at Nvidia and Intel honestly
