Nice thanks for the ideas. I considered the support but I noticed people recommend them usually for 90+ inches and one set of legs but I might get one anyways. I do need a cable management system so I'll see

All told it was about $360. Cabinets run about $90 each and if I went plain colored top I could've saved money. But I wanted a nice desk so splurged. Premade desks are garbage

The worst part was having to go to Ikea

Yeah, I have the same length but the ekbaken one which isn't the nice wood one like you have. They're both the same lengths, but yours should resist warping better. That said, mine started warping within the year. The leg is only $5 and you don't even need to screw it in, just prop it under. Something to consider.

Pre-made desks are fucking garbage, can confirm! 2 years ago, when I got my current job where sometimes I have to work from home (not often) , I got a neat wrap-around desk from Office Depot, and it was the typical porn interview dark colored desk. U shaped and all, and now 2 years later, the thing is falling apart. I'm making it work, and have turned part of the U into a 2nd desk for the wife, but next time, I'm going your route, and just buying pieces and screwing shit together!

What is the depth on that countertop? I'm gonna be moving soon so I'm thinking of just selling my current desk(super heavy L shaped) then doing something like what you are doing. Worried I would be to close to a widescreen 34".

25 5/8th" its fine for up to around 38" screens, depending on user preference and stand position. Mounting on the wall or an arm would provide the most room

I just measured the distance I prefer with my current desk, it is 28.5" or so.(have room to move it further or closer) I'll try it a couple inches closer but the idea of it doesn't seem appealing to me

Where/how is your monitor sitting now? And note that you won't find many desks deeper that aren't corner desks or big executive ones.

Currently on the desk with the stand it came with. I have a loctek stand I haven't assembled yet, will get it done tonight or tomorrow. Having to get something custom cut sounds expensive so sticking with this current desk is seeming likely. For our house in Oregon we used phenolic resin countertops in the kitchen. I liked it very much, but remember it was not cheap.

Depending on the stand, the difference between how far in it has to sit vs mounting the monitor might make up the difference you need.

Keep in mind an Ikea countertop is just one option. I'm sure you could get a custom butcher block just about anywhere. I also don't know for sure but that Ikea doesn't offer something deeper

ya, out of curiosity I filled out a form for a quote on a single piece of phenolic resin @ 72" x 36". Mostly expecting them to laugh and say the minimum is 5+ or more. For the cabinets I am thinking a mix of drawers and racks for my gear.

I was looking at rack stuff too. I might just get a small audio interface for home recording though

They were happy to sell me a single piece, for $1k. That's not gonna happen.

The Ikea stuff is just laminate over particle I'm pretty sure anyways

Some is solid wood; I've got two desks I made from Ikea counters and pipe/fittings.

Edit: Yours is. If you can see the grain continue from the face to the edges it's 99.9% odds solid. No one will grain match veneer at that price point.
