First time my group attempted Skolas last night. Light Switch modifier. Fuck that noise. 90% of our death's were Captains blinking to us and meleeing, coming out of doors next to us and meleeing, or vandals jumping to us and meleeing. What a fucking pain.

I also LOL @ everytime a new expansion is mentioned and some one says "DON'T BOTHER PLAYING, NEW EXPANSION IS GOING TO MAKE ALL WEAPONS ARMOR USELESS". Well, yes and no. I still have a bunch of old school weapons (Fate Bringer, Praedyth, Jolder's Hammer 1.0) that are some of the best weapons you can get. Hasn't been true yet. Your armor, besides exotics, will be garbage, but that's how MMO's (which this is at least attempting to be) are. Xpac---> New gear. Saying it's not worth playing until then is retarded. Then you'll gear up in 2 weeks and say "OH NO REASON TO PLAY GUYS, NEXT EXPAC IS 3 MONTHS AWAY AND EVERYTHING WILL BE GARBAGE!"
They are still usefull because you can upgrade them to 365 (tried using them without the upgrade? Yeah they suck then).

If the new expansion does not allow us to upgrade our old shit it might actually be a good thing. The game can not be desigend around one single weapon, the G-horn was a huge misstake and it needs to be corrected.

You are ofc correct in that a new xpac equals new gear that should by all rights be better then the current because otherwise noone would bother playing. The gear resets in online games are necessary so that they can pull in new and old inactive users.

i just can't play any shooter with a controller ... anyone any success to use mouse keyboard with PS4 ? (not even sure its supported by Destiny)
The chance that Destiny gets a PC version is like 0 or ?
Thought the same thing, you get used to using the controller. I dont think you can plug & play m/kb, dudes were buying some peripheral to play with a mouse when this shitpile launched.

Beat Skola for the first time last night with a PUG from LFG. Had fought him about 3 times before in prior weeks but never got the kill. Got lucky with this PUG because the 2 guys had beat him 3x a week since launch so they knew their shit. We got the kill on our 2nd try and it was the smoothest encounter I have ever had in PoE. Whole run was 40 minutes from round 1 to Skola. Wish they all could be like that.

I use a Xim 4. It works really well for FPS games but some, like destiny, have their issues. Ground based movement etc.. is fine but sprinting/vehicle movement isnt quite right as turn ratios are adjusted in both cases. They can be worked around but its rather clunky.

40 minutes? damn man, I'm jealous. My fastest run (of the whole 2 times I've bothered to complete POE 35) from round 1 to dead Skolas was 1 hour 48 minutes and we only had to start over on a round once and Skolas twice.

That was my exact experience to so maybe the 40 minutes was only for the final round Skolas. Still felt like a dream compared to the 5+ hours before and no victory =)

So I've never done any of the raids (never had the time until now), but the little challenge thing makes me want to at least try them.

At this point, are they fairly easily completed? I don't care if they aren't, but I'd like to know before I try and find a group.

As long as you have a legit swordbearer crota can be done in like...what...20? 30? minutes. The biggest hiccup I've had in VoG is the templar part

There can be some parts that are challenging in both raids. Several parts require coordination as a team and specific roles during the fight. Most people you'll pick up in a group will be familiar with the strats but since this will be your first go I would suggest taking some time and watching some strategy videos on youtube. Just to get a sense of the mechanics of each fight and what the different roles are in that particular fight.

What he said!

Most boss fights have mechanics you are simply assumed to know by now, and if it is your first raid you should tell your group so you can get the easy/cheesy roles in the fights until you learn them.

Indeed, make sure they know its your first time so they can be sure to explain what is expected of you. Most people I have found off Destiny LFG are pretty cool about it, but you might want to check out theDestiny Sherpa subreddit. Its experienced players who specifically lead raids for groups that are not experienced. They are laid back about it, patient and everyone on the fireteam will basically be in your same boat. I have heard good things. Since you are new to the raiding part of the game and you want a nice laid back experience I would definitely go this route instead of getting an asshole LFG team that is pissed because you wipe one time.

Ok just got this, how you mine for fish?

Is there a beginner's benefit to preordering the expac collectors edition? I figure $30 of it is towards current DLC as I don't have it already so it's just $50?

I know I saw a pricing megathread on reddit that broke down all the different versions of The Taken King and what all you got from it. You might want to start there. The pricing strategy from Bungie on this one has been totally confusing.

So reading the thread, it looks like the normal version is 60... whatever includes the DLC soI'mnot offended, but the collectors digital is 80... and the physical digital is 80 as well which includes a ton of actual items. I mean the only benefit for me would be to get the expacs now instead of in the box in September? I guess we'll wait and see but I'd be pretty pissed if I had bought all that shit full price at release and they want 80 bucks for a DLC lol.

I know there was a big uproar because there were some special items that only came with the $80 version (which includes both xpacs) and there was no other way for folks who already owned the xpacs to get those special items. So basically Bungie was going to make you -repurchase the same content in order to get these special items (some emotes and other vanity stuff). People were not happy about having to buy the same xpacs over again so Bungie I think said they were going to be changing the pricing model around before launch. I would wait to see how that all shakes out before you make your final decision.

Yea but there's really no point to getting digital when you can get physical and get some free swag basically? What does [t1] mean because I'm pretty sure all editions are showing both DLCs if that's what it means?

So anyway:

I like a lot about this game. The combat is fun overall and it's trying enough to make me plan things out but not ridiculous enough to make me have to restart like it's Rainbow Six with the wrong. fucking. plan.

That said, the story is good overall but basically nonexistent. There's lines which are literally "I could tell you about the exciting pieces of lore you do not know about but I won't". I do feel like they tried a cinematic approach instead of the 'piles of shitty expository text' route but without the content to back it up. My only other issue so far is almost every mission is survive 2-3 giant waves of shit while something involving the ghost happens. I could use a little more variety (escort, search and destroy, gauntlet, whatever).

If you dig around on reddit you can find a huge thread about how they cut the story into shit a year before release (when the lore guy quit). Seems it HAD a decent and intresting story but due to cuts and such (like the story we are playing are only meant as the "titan" story, other classes had their own story lines).
