Boxx price and expansions or dlc used to be enough. Now they want to monetize everything, honestly surprised they havent monetized afk play like a gatcha game yet.

It's not about rape, but about them removing the depiction of a woman in a so-called mature gritty and often times dismal setting. As you said, it's no doubt part of an agenda to de-sexualize the game.
Now we are to have pure evil characters in this game, that don't necessarily even have a shred of second-hand evidence of evil atrocities. "They're just evil. Take our word for it. Listen to our cut rate voiceactors over-deliver evil laughter."
There wasn't going to be a CG video of rape. It was a story mention in the dialogue. Text on a screen, one or two sentences and mentions. It's less about the female protagonist and more about the backdrop of the new evil they want to usher in with the development direction of D4. I'm sure Sebastian tried to explain this to them to no avail.
How do you set up mature story arcs and hero stories without characters having suffered traumatic or dire circumstances? Besides having a bucket of blood thrown by a manchild FX designer, that is.

Candle! You don't even get two! It's a misleading picture to show both "sides" of the singular candle and Blizzard doesn't bother to note that other than by saying candle at the bottom in the description.
The D3 collectors edition got shit on too but for $100 you got the actual (physical) game, a somewhat neat Diablo skull with magnetic-attaching soulstone 4Gig usb drive that contained the full version of Diablo 2/LoD, exclusive in-game cosmetics, and behind the scenes DvD set + DvD Ost.
They removed all of that for D4 and added a candle and a cloth map for the same price.
Pay up plebs!
Edit: Its also been discovered that at least one of the cosmetics from the deluxe+ preorder is a literal pallet swap. The DI cosmetic is the exact same as one of the first cosmetics in the DI store ever released, just as a different color. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that the other cosmetics "exclusive" to Diablo 4 preorders are the same exact skins as those found in-game, just different colors.

While they're definitely veering into the cunt territory I think not moving past the "Pay to win" line is a big deal for western markets, as going there just gets you a lot of negative press and a lot of people hating on the game instantly, it's just bad publicity. At the very least, you wouldn't launch with it, maybe 3years down the road after you've sold expansions and the game numbers are down you can start fucking with it but launching with pay to win mechanics seems absolutely stupid.
I didn't bother checking the website but I saw that screenshot for preorders on reddit yesterday and that really looked pretty disgusting. Baseline 70euros game is already kinda fucky imo but you can argue Sony and Microsoft(soon) do it so makes sense kinda, but then you can preorder the fucking battlepass, game isn't even out yet and already planned a battlepass for release shows where the priorities are, and 4day headstart in a non mmo is also some bullshit(but CoD and BF and whatever else get away with it so surely Blizzard will also get away with it).
I'll say on the collector edition stuff though, it seems pretty normal. It's 100bucks for the collector edition stuff, sure it doesn't have the game, but that just means the collector is 170$ and that's not too out of line for a lot of collector editions. This helps them not have 6 versions of the game too since you can buy the 4day headstart and accelerate season pass versions along with collector on your own, instead of having 3 versions of the collector(or only have one version that has only ultimate but is priced 200$). Collector editions are mostly a huge waste of money to begin with so I'm not surprised by the price or anything on this.
Rest of the game can suck a dick I think. It releases in the summer, but so do a bunch of other things, so I'll probably put it on the list to buy during a sale later instead, this way they can fix the likely shit they launch with and I can save money. Also anyone who thinks they'll be able to actually play properly the first 4days they're paying for is delusional unless you play off hours. Prime time that shit's gonna be down constantly.

$170 for a collectors is normal, if it had any kind of figurine or other large symbol piece. Iirc, I paid $150 for SWTOR collectors, and got an awesome 10" or so figurine out of it and all that other stuff that normally comes in them(including the game).
They couldn't do a Diablo, Hell that new lilith or w/e her name is, tyrael figurine or any number of other iconic characters they have? Then just charge the $170 and include the game.

While I agree with your line of reasoning in principle I find that it speaks to the mindset of the company and their priorities when they push the monetization over the gameplay. I really thought I was going to buy this and play the campaign because I stopped really playing Path of Exile; but Blizzard's game design choices and overall decline have put me in the NOPE category.

Which is fine for casual gamers. But also some people do enjoy ladders, racing or other such things. If they burnout who cares, if they had fun and that's what they enjoy, so be it. It's not for me, but the competitive nature of it is what some crave. Even more so for the HC versions and the adrenaline that comes with racing + the "if you die its over aspect of it".

The longevity of an ARPG game lives or dies by its ability to make the grind fun and engaging. Its why people still love the super bloated over complex Path of Exile. Its why D2 was so good. D3 sucked at that hard... so everyone is hoping that somewhere in Bliz they decided to actually do what they do best and take all the good shit in the genre and polish it up. Trouble is that they sucked that that too for the past decade.

It really seems like they could save themselves a lot of hassle and just emulate PoE, but in the Diablo engine. If they came out and said the only purchase items were visual effects and pets (pickup gold or scrolls or something) to pay for the servers being online and quarterly patch cycles, I doubt anyone would have reason to complain.
Seeing that list of pre-order bonuses makes me cringe that they already plan to have some weird gating/p2w bullshit mechanic.
Also, I hope the lead designer said "Okay, we took out the line about rape, we've replaced it with 'she saw a group of demons disembowel her mother, devour her head and fucked the neck hole before setting her on fire'.
