not everyone who is wanting to examine the racial factors in how this shit happens is "racebaiting". Some people honestly think that we still have a lot of work to do in race relations in this country even in 2014, and sometimes the color of someone's skin actually IS a factor in what happens to them, not just their actions.
The NYPD thing, in particular, makes me sick and people are already coming out to defend the cop in that situation, and it's a hell of a lot more clearcut than either Mike Brown or Trayvon Martin's situation was. The guy shouldn't have been so fat. He shouldn't have "kept it real" with the police officer. He must have done SOMETHING to deserve it.
It's fucking disgusting and it's being allowed to run rampant here.
I agree that there is plenty of racism in this country. The color of your skin definitely matters when cops pull you over.
However, it also isn't always racism that makes someone think "wtf, why didn't he just do what the cop told him to do!?". I was raised to always do what a police officer tells you or you will get stick time. That doesn't mean its RIGHT that it happens that way all the time, but its just how it is. Hell, Tummy has said the same shit, except he sees it as perfectly fine.
See, that's the part that you're not getting. Yes, he clearly assaulted that store owner. Yes, he clearly had committed a crime. He deserved to face the appropriate consequences of those actions.
He also was a young kid who did the same sort of dumb things that a lot of people of all sorts of colors do at that age. But since he was a big black kid, the easy narrative is that he was a monstrous thug, beyond redemption.
Well, you know what? That picture of him in his school regalia, that everybody was complaining about? He was that kid, as much as he was also the kid who took a picture of himself with guns and money. He was a person. A person that made some really stupid choices and ended up dead because of it. It's sad and I don't think it's out of bounds to look at whether race was a factor in what happened to him.
Sure, you are right, he is all those things. The media though, ONLY focused on the good side of him. The gentle giant, unarmed, never would hurt anyone. So OF COURSE on this forum, when a whole nother side of him comes out, are going to take the other side of it. That isn't racism, its a sign that our media was racebaiting the shit out of this story. Surely you agree with that?
His own words, describing Brown as a "demon", don't exactly paint a picture of a guy who deals well with minorities.
I'm not aware of any racist connotation to demon. He was using it as a word to describe someone in the midst of attacking him. Maybe he is a racist, but that quote by itself doesn't suggest racism at all to me.
Anyway, sorry for the multiquotes, but what Im saying is, then go into the thread and engage. Your first comments on this subject were in Amod saying the entire thread was a racist circlejerk, then you jumped into the thread and said the n-word. What was the point of all that?
