I might give calbre a try, but it seems like I've been manually doing everything it offers with dropbox. I have over 10gb of books at this point.
Dropbox has almost no functional overlap with calibre. Calibre is like the xbmc of books, it's main attraction is the full metadata lookup including series, combined with tagging and enormous flexibility in search/custom lists etc. There's a variety of useful plugins too, particularly quality check.

I just bought a paperwhite a few days ago, the backlight on them definitely isn't exactly even and amazon does say that it is just how they are. Personally I can sorta see it in a dark room but in a normal room when i have the light at like 4-8 setting I can't really even tell there is a light.

Love the paperwhite overall, text is amazing and coming from the old $69 kindle it is a huge upgrade.

I upgraded from a Kindle 2 (kindle keyboard), to a Kindle Touch, to a Kindle Paperwhite.

I love the paperwhite. If they can make the lighting a little bit more even and very slightly increase the refresh rate of e-ink, maybe even adding color, it would be a perfect device. The important thing for e-ink is the battery life. I love being able to use it all week long at work for a few hours each day and not having to plug it in once.

I'd definitely recommend a case, it imporved the experience tremendously of both my kindle touch and paperwhite. I was concerned that the paperwhite's "backlight" wouldn't be as good as the case light on the kindle touch, but it turned out to be better in every way imaginable, and much easier on my eyes than an LCD backlight.

I typically use the iPad-- but that is more because I don't want to carry around another device dedicated for reading. In the past, however, I had a Sony PRS-505 and a first gen Nook that I used relentlessly until I got my iPad.

Somewhat ironic if you consider that I actually work at EInk and manage several EInk product platforms. (Thanks for the support!)

So you're saying it'll be a while (never?) before EInk makes a color display that does not suck?

Honest question - what do you need color for anyways? I can't remember the last time I had an actual book that had color.

Children's books, magazines, comics...

This was supposed to be "coming soon" like 2 years ago. Luckily I already submitted Stehle's comment to Gizmodo, should be an article any minute now titled "INSIDE SOURCE GUARANTEES FULL COLOR E-INK WITHIN THE WEEK!"

I have a Kindle... 4th gen or so (the one without keyboard but without touch as well)... got it as a christmas present from my wife in 2011. Used it a lot in the beginning, now I just don't read as much. Will start again once I finish the attic and some other stuff... i.e. next winter.

I'll definitely want a tablet as well, torn between Kindle HD 8.9 (finally made it to Germany, thanks amazon), Samsung, or Google. I want to spend as little as possible but don't want a piece of trash...

Will probably get a Kindle Colour as well once that hits the market.

E ink color would be awesome if they can do it without to much over head for battery life or kill the refresh time of it. Thinks like a bunch of gaming .pdfs look so much better on color. I still have not bitten the bullet on getting an ereader but I think in the next few months I probably will bite the bullet and just do it. My book piles are just getting to huge and something must be done to curb their growth cause my apartment sure as hell is not growing and I don't want to be found smoshed under a pile of books some day.

iPad does an excellent job with the screen resolution. I've gotten headaches reading extended documents on an improperly calibrated desktop/laptop. The only issue I have is choosing between neck strain or tired arms ... it just doesn't seem as natural as reading an actual paper book

If you get a smaller reader and not a big iPad it isn't much different than holding a paperback. It's actually more comfortable than holding some of those thousand page paperbacks too, you know the ones, where they don't open up all the way and you have to keep the pages spread open like a virgin's legs just to see the entire page.

Oops, too much porn for me it seems.

Ereader all the way.
I have both and trying to read a book on my tablet just doesn't work well for me.

I had been using an original Kindle with the keypad since it came out. I have switched to the smaller Kindle and got it for $69. I like it much better as it fits into every pocket and bag easily. I never really had any use for the keyboard and my wife has been using it. No w she has been a die hard novel reader all her life. I havd had as many as 800 to 900 paperbacks in my walkin closet at anyone time over the past 25 years and are now down to the couple of dozen she won't let go of. Big improvement. I use Calibre for everything and have never had an issue. Now retired I read more non fiction rather that the endless manuals I had to get through over the years of working. Just a little clue, I started in IT when punch tape was used to guide a printer. Many moons have passed along with languages to lkearn and hardware to adapt to. These would have saved a lot of times years back reading through an IBM maintenance manual. Rows and rows of them.

As an after thought when I was purchasing my ereader I was deciding between b&W or color and when was the last time you read a book, as an adult, that was in color? Just my 2Cents.....

Right, I use my e-reader for everything except magazines... If color finally appeared, I'd finally start picking up magazines on my kindle (assuming they aren't full of fucking advertisements)

Anyone have the Nook Touch with Glowlight? If so, care to comment about the back light on it? I've heard it isn't very even compared to the Kindle Paperwhite. I'd prefer to go with the Nook since it has physical page turn buttons (wtf Amazon?), but if the lighting is sub par then I'd get over it.

I don't mind the lack of physical buttons on my kindle, the paperwhite is very responsive to touch, don't miss having buttons at all.

For what it's worth I have the nook simple touch (no light) and I never use the physical buttons.
