BST is the one class I'm not familiar with the inner workings of. What makes it+mage work so well? Does the BST play more of a tank role or more of a debuff/healer role?

Weird that I've never run BST, considering I like Monk and Shaman so much and it combines the two.
I can only speak to content from the last ten years or so, but BST + MAG is a good combo. Both classes are independently strong, so together they form a decent combo. The mage can provide modest boost to the BST in the form of pet gear while buffing the BST's pet and swarm pet a bit, while the BST can boost the MAG's pet a bit.

Buuut there's not much synergy beyond that. Without ADPS neither do that much damage, and they have limited options for pulling, CC, tanking, healing, etc. There are other combos that use BST or MAG out there over the last ten years that are better in some respects. Shd+mag or shd+bst is good. Brd+mag is good. Pal+bst or pal+mag is good. Bst+bst is also good.

I was guilded with Dzarn when he built out the hunters achievements for the early expansions.
It was formulaic it was based off if they had a unique drop and something else. The reward was going to be a legit aug but some ass clowns in another guild on the server got to forum questing and shot it down when they got wind. We used the raid system and everyone in the guild had it pretty much done. Classic eq no one can have anything nice. So much of eq is fucked because of politics, and not US politics. Trailer park trash mad they don’t get it first.
Speaking of which, i wouldn't mind seeing hunter achievements in raids changed a bit. Having to either be in the same zone OR in the same group wouldn't be a bad change. As it stands so many people get their hunter achievements in large raids while not in the same zone or AFK. Myself included.

we were using mage pets to tank shit in VoA. mostly for their immunity to KB, but also because they were just absurdly good tanks. mages always cried about having like 80% wizard DPS (ignore rain), but their earth pet was like 70% of a fully geared warrior too. even if the boss ate a few mages it was way easier to stack mages than geared tanks, and their HP was meteoric, so heal stability was legit.

the mage/bard/bst or shm groups were relatively peerless at single group content for a long time. could debuff virtually everything to make it hit like an infant and escape rare bad pulls then reset before respawns. it was very unfair that pets stopped causing auto attack push while players still did. aside from the few tiny kicks (shaman wolf was infamous for cycling kick a lot), stacking pets was just hella good.

I think a big part of servers losing steam after PoP is that it's pretty much the end of being able to easily find pick up groups.

Everything starts being hidden behind flags (-paw which gets boring as fuck after a while).

Lots of casual types that don't want to box and don't want a pity spot in some boxers groups start quitting because they can no long find regular groups of 6 actual humans. When they quit guilds start getting short manned because most won't allow 6 boxers bring their whole crew to raids etc.

So you end up with a few guilds that are full of mostly boxers that barely interact outside of raids but can manage to keep a functioning raid force and keep clearing content because all the strats are out there and characters are OP compared to content now. Servers don't die, there's always a bunch of guilds that keep going past PoP but the pug scene mostly dies.

Universally dropping flags, adding more ports, adding squiring (which lets players level up somewhat to the highest person) and then adding really strong hotzones / resource hunter (much stronger than what we have now) to funnel players into few zones would really help this. Squiring and resource hunter on its own would be great for live which also has this problem.

Why would kronolords vote for a ruleset that makes them less krono? They already have either truebox setups or cheats to bypass it. Voting for no truebox would just cut into their profits as more people can box and get their own loot.

There is plenty of Kronolords on both sides of the truebox argument. The ones that don't know how to code their own shit almost all want truebox gone.

I know I’m speaking into the void but why not learn from THJ’s success at least a little and stop looking so much into timing and expansions but rather actually into bringing some creative adjustments to the game? I’d rather they swing for the fence and it go down in flames than rehashing then manipulation of expansion schedules as their primary tool. At least it will be different and something they can build off of.

For the reality of it all… I get doing something as bold takes probably a significant amount of time and attention than they’re able to give but come on… the only excitement EQ has experienced in a decade or more has been THJ. I’m not saying you copy it but I think it does show there is more life out there besides the krono farmers that would love to experience EQ with some creative flavors. They don’t even have to come up with ideas on their own… there are proven, success formulas out there that would probably bring a server population that would rival or surpass any they seen in recent years.

Just in case EQ devs are still lurking… open Agnarr up for free. EQ through PoP should be available… it’s the least you could do for the player base that just likes to scratch the occasional itch or wander through Norrath time to time. Especially since P99 is out there, it just makes sense the Daybreak would offer that as well.
