Yes and i've played an SK with TL on Ragefire and topped parses doing so... SKs don't do DPS they do burst when they have a full mana bar, Unholy and HT. It's not until you get Mental Corruption and start stacking FT that you can sustain DPS that's higher then a warriors.

Side note: The upgrade to Mental Corruption Mental Horror was added into the game because of me.

Back in my Afterlife days when I lived with models and porn stars yet continued to raid in Everquest, one of my roommates was dating one of the members of Coheed and Cambria.........

Long story short, I run into her last night and we get to talking and she tells me they wrote some songs about us. So I go home, look at some of the lyrics and sure as shit, several references to me, although much more towards her.

Specifically the song "The Suffering" is completely about the three of us. It pretty much 100% accurately describes our situation for about 6 months around 03/04 when this happened. Guess I"ll take it as the ultimate form of flattery. It"s also been funny reading people"s opinion of what the song is about. Apparently there is a "book" that was written that explains the songs if anyone can point me to it I"d like to read it.

don't xp with less than 6 characters. SK/bard is totally fine because if you are killing for xp with a group of 2 you are already horribly wrong, and if you can't get people to group with you that problem needs to be fixed first and your class makeup is less important!

Ok so I'm thinking SHM/SK playing on my PC and laptop right next to it should be pretty easy/doable? I want to be able to play high APM when I feel like it, but play fine relaxed/not paying too much attention sometimes too on longer grinds. I could also do a third account for a bard using moonlight for another PC, if that's useful leaving it mostly AFK for songs and stuff and I don't have to tab to that too much.

Im almost done leveling a Shadowknight on Aradune. Ive grouped with Warriors a handful of times and they typically cant out pace me on aggro, even when Im not trying. Was invited to a group in Dulak at the last boat, no one was really in LFG so I guess I was just a filler at 11am. The Warrior was geared well, 2 levels ahead of me, and even with him taunting, provoking, etc. - I was still stealing and holding aggro from him and all I had was just the proc life tap buff on with no proc weapon. Nevermind the fact that you can taunt a mob, then use your instant cast hate spell and be miles ahead of anyone else on the meter for a time.

As far as pulling - generally most of the groups Ive had leveling up have had at least one charmed pet. It's just easier to let the pet steal aggro from you at 20-30% on a mob (or let them have it entirely), run off and grab another and come back to camp just as the other one dies and repeat it. Especially if the zone you're in has Shit tier pathing. Most recently in POI - I went from 53 to 58 in a single day because we had two enchanters with two charm pets that anytime I pulled something back to them.. they would just murder hobo the shit out of it, so im just pulling non stop. (Not to mention I was held hostage by two people blowing Shared 50% pots. No way Im giving up someone giving up money exp like that.)

SK Mana issues is a real problem though - The mana regen you get from classic spells like Clarity just dont keep up with pulling and tanking. The only way I was generally able to debuff a couple different stats, snare and keep hate on a mob was with an enchanter and bard in the group. (Elixirs help tremendously too since they stack, but Im not sure if theyll be available for classic?) A solid group in my opinion (For speed leveling, not farming) is SK, Clr, Brd, enc, shm, and nec. Charming is still very much alive and well.

Pertaining to leveling on TLP's with boxing etc. - I typically dont invite people that have a second box going simply because you have no idea how well that person can box the second character. It just feels awful when you start to get the notion that this guys box is doing shit-all and not contributing a single thing to the group except soaking up exp. Its just a handicap to the rest of the group and its annoying as fuck. This seems to be the general sentiment as well. Not that I have something against boxing a second character, its just a roll of the dice to know if you'll come out ahead in the situation. Point being, a lot of groups will look for people that arent boxing, so dont worry about it if you arent going to box.

----------------
Lastly - in an effort to capitalize on all camps available in classic, what are you guys going to do your first Magic weapon? The last time I played and didnt have gear thrown at me at from the start was 22 years ago. Ive been looking and Polished Granite Tomahawk sounds like a good option, but with the server being random loot.. I dont know how well anyone is going to reliably farm these weapons. Crookstinger, or Riptide Spear could be options as well - but again.. its all random. Thoughts on this hurdle?

For early weapon, theres a named mummy in nro that's basically always up and a named gnoll in lake rathe that's always up a couple times, and you can probably farm them relentlessly for every item in the teens range.

Whats more fun to play, SK or Ranger?

I prefer Ranger at the levels TLP's are mostly alive. If you know what you're doing, you'll always be an asset, and by the time you arent a good enough tank, you're at level cap for 6-12 months and at the top end of the damage spectrum. SK's arent walking piles of nonsense until some of the later years, but still solid.

Tips to shadowknights:

Just cast clinging darkness and heart flutter classic-velious. Only 2 spells you need to cast for aggro purposes. Could almost get away with just clinging, but it has a cooldown so you need a backup spell. But, mostly, you're just casting clinging darkness. Even in planes of power, I cast clinging darkness more than anything else. In luclin, you do get instant cast terror spells but the mana/hate ratio is terrible. I replace Heart Flutter with the top Terror and only use it immediately after clinging darkness or if I am on the move and can't stop to cast.

If you need to actually snare something that will run fast (has sow), then cast Dooming Darkness. Or if you want to split 2 mobs, use dooming darkness. But, for aggro, clinging darkness and heart flutter are the top mana/hate spells in my experiences. Clinging would be used 100% of the time but it has a cooldown. I keep up Dooming, Heart Flutter and Clinging and mostly cast clinging with heart flutter backup if I want to cast 2 cheap aggro spells back to back. Dooming darkness has no cooldown but uses more mana so ill mostly use it to FD split or take SoW off mobs.

Typically my spell line up come Velious is.

Lifetap
Vampiric Embrace
Dooming Darkness
Heart Flutter
Clinging Darkness
Harmshield
Pet/DoT
Feign Death

1 more weird thing about SK spells. You want to use Vampiric Embrace if you are min/max. It scales with your level so it is actually better than all of your other HP proc spells for quite awhile. Obviously you use Mental Horror in Luclin on the fights that it isn't resisted. But, you do not want to use the 30minute buffs that give you lifetap procs. They are less hp than your low lvl Vampiric Embrace (kunark SK arms clicky if you aren't iksar).

Grouped with you in Guk I think, were you the one that couldnt get past the 2 live frogs at the entrance without zoning out half a dozen times? also noticed you casting a lot of shit that wasn't clinging darkness. Nothing in the arsenal of an SK beats CD for aggro per mana. cast that 3 times on a mob and not much is getting it off you, I could hold aggro off hasted velium hunters with CD alone and not even turning auto attack on, sometimes after the 100th+ mob you forget lol. Clarity is more than enough if you aren't spending mana on crap you don't really need, debuffs that give you a recourse are worth casting if mana permits and just enough to keep the recourse up.

With max FT, KEI and Mental corruption up you can go to town with all kinds of shit though, spamming spears on cooldown, asystoling every mob etc, but you gotta adjust based on your mana pool and regen, when your gear sucks stick to CD and you will keep up with just about any group, stock up on conc/clarity/spirituality pots too.

As for magic weapon, just use whatever you can get your hands on, focus on hitting 50 ASAP, always be in a full group if possible and just use a fine steel 2 hander until something magic drops then throw a tanty and demand they let you have it. Dark Reaver in Guk should be an early goal imo, if you want to dick around in Befallen then try for a BBC but with random loot that's probably not gonna happen either. Even if you can't damage a mob you should be able to tank fine with just clinging darkness.

Won't argue that VE is better than SoUndeath but I went the latter mostly because the extra duration and fashion quest /shrug.

Trying to think back to Velious and my spell lineup, was probably something like.

Flex slot, pet/augment death
Shroud of Undeath
Shadow Vortex/Shroud of Pain
Clinging darkness, never had two memmed, if i wanted a better snare for some reason i'd swap this out.
Asystole > Heart flutter if your mana pool can handle it
Drain Soul or whatever is highest lifetap if not 60
Harmshield or Banshee Aura, Voice of Terris in Luclin for raids
Death Peace

SK's are the fucking coolest class in EQ imo, but also overplayed and semi useless to have more than a few in raids. There's more than one way to fuck a cat and everyone has their own style.

Do they not have those proc augs you buy from a vendor at like level 10 that make it a magic weapon?

Random shade you seem to be pointing out, but ya. I couldnt get good separation between undead and live frogs to switch invises. So after training out a few times, I just soloed the live ones and got to your group. We also had a necromancer in the group to your next point. But regardless, I was a fat ass ogre in a little bitty room and I hated every minute of it for that sole reason and never went back. :p

Has there been confirmation that loot pools are going to be shared across all zones, based on the level of the mob? I really have a feeling they are going to be lazy about this and make it in-zone only.
