I was talking in context of enjoying as a film based on demons and angels etc. I liked the movie, but it was just not the type of movie I was talkign about is all.

This was one of the great movies of my youth. Watched it at a friends house at 14 or 15 years old and just flat out didn't sleep that night. I remember questioning everything about my life and the future and at one point in the middle of the night my buddy called out from the couch - "dude, you awake?" - "ya" - "lets make some pizza rolls".

Two scared little teenagers.

I re-watched it years later, and by god it holds up. Haven't seen it in a while so might watch again this week.

Is this available on any of the normal streaming places? I am in the mood to watch it again now.

Looks like Vudu has a 4k Digital available for 12.99. That's pretty good.
Does it even have HDR? If there hasn't been an official 4K remaster by the studio, I can't imagine that what Vudu has is anything more than upscaled garbage.

I am fascinated by the mythos of the Devil and demons/hell in general. So any movie that has the devil in it or demons from hell is always interesting for me. In this context, the black hole/otherwordly dimension produces the evil entity that wreaks havoc.

This movie captured the dread of the torment that befell the crew, with each individual haunted by their own version of "hell" which is very interesting. There are other movies that attempt to portray the Devil and demons etc in different ways, such as Constantine (Vormeer was incredible as the Devil), Al Pacino's version in the Devils Advocate and The Witch, that showed a more nebulous version. I wish someone would make a solid devil movie that touched on more biblical mythos shit and had some epic fights between angels and hellspawn etc.
I personally liked End of Days as well. But if an Arnold Supernatural action flick doesn't sound good you probably wont like it.

Side note I met Keanu several times after he finished filming the Devils Advocate, but before it released.

@China Bat Soup it lists this for the UHD , but unsure how accurate.

4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, Dolby Digital Plus 5.1

I cannot think of a worse performance by Gabriel Byrne than the one he gave in End of Days. It's like he said no, but then the director said 'we will throw in a gratuitous incest threesome for you' and he's like 'ok fine but im gonna half-ass phoning it in''.

Christian Mythology is pretty awesome, honestly. You have weird betrayals, descriptions of incredibly lascivious acts, and some hardcore angel-warrior fighting porn. It's pretty berserk.
I really wanted to check out that White Wolf "Demon: The Fallen" game system just because it seemed to dive deep into that mythos. Really wish more "gaming" folk were interested in that kind of stuff vs. just larpers who like to wear black and listen to Bauhaus.
Yeah, Christian Mythology is pretty badass. I'm also a sucker for the Angels vs. Demons shit. That's a large part of why I'm so excited for the new Pathfinder game.

I watched all of Supernatural and never really knew how much of the Angels vs. Demons stuff was made up whole cloth or how much was inspired by actual texts and mythos. I mean yeah at some point once you've killed the entire pantheon you've veered off in to full creative writing territory, but for a while there they were playing with "established" lore, it seemed.

Ahh Event Horizon... I remember a few years ago when my Father asked me for tips on a good Sci-Fi flick to watch. I pointed him towards this. He didn't talk to me for a week. Good times! :)

The black guy’s is clearly systemic racism best represented by being on a ship full of white people.

Remember, movie came out in 1997 but is set in 2050s so he would have been aware of systemic racism by then. Truly ahead of its time indeed.

I watched it originally at the theater. One of the girlfriends wanted to watch the movie but thought it would be a tough sell to get everyone on board for a horror movie, instead she told us it was a science fiction. So her boyfriend and the other two couples watched it without a clue what we were in for.

Which black guy? Morpheus lost someone on his last mission. The chick lost her son. Baby Bear went through the portal and experienced the "hell dimension".

I seriously think this is the best way to watch many horror movies. I still remember when I went to the cinema to watch From Dusk til Dawn, having never seen a trailer for it, heard a review, or basically heard shit about it. Didn't even know who was in it. Lights go out, title comes up, "ooh lots of good actors in this"... "ahh it's a crime/gangster film"... "man Selma Hayak is hot"... "wait... what's going on.. are they hallucinating? Was there something in the tequila?" ... "ok.. wow... this is a vampire flick lol"

Going into Dusk til Dawn completely ignorant is a big “what the fuck moment?”.

My uncle used to say the moment The club turn into vampires is the exact moment Tarantino ran out of ideas for the film. I mean, it’s kinda true. It is like he had some half finished crime film and then couldn’t finish the script so they turned it into a completely different movie for the last half
