I think his issue is they're basically triple dipping? You're paying a box price and subscription, and yet that's still not enough for you to have all the content, so they're doing micro transactions on top of it all. Even for a brand new AAA game that seems like a stretch, but for this? C'mon now.

It reminds me of when the first game (Starfield maybe?) came out at $69.99 and I said that if everyone decides this is acceptable, well, don't be surprised if every game from here on comes out at that price point. And sure enough, now new games are all $69.99 or even $79.99. You can convince yourself it's inflation, and yet, if you rejected that pricing model, you'd be paying $50-60 for new games right now.
Maybe that’s his issue, but he can STFU and not play instead of bitching like a middle aged white woman. No one is interested in his opinions.

What the fuck is the big deal with bags for cash? Practically every game on earth sell cosmetics, bags, and similar for cash now. Live eq is like the exception to the rule with all the big bags on achievements and raid chests.

Other games doing isn't a good reason. These types of practices are largely driven by consumer demand and spending.

What you're saying is not true at all. WoW is the most popular game of same genre and they don't sell store bags at all let alone store bags that will likely be 4x the size of in game bags like TLPs have.

This is a mod of a 27 year old game that took very little to create and is mostly just Copy/pasted from other EMUs most which the EQL team didn't create. Why on earth would a game like that be more aggressively monetized than games of the same genre made by triple AAA studio that are creating entirely new content and have 1000s of employees to pay. Make it make sense.

This isn't your Reddit circle jerk hugbox. You can go talk about EQL if you can't handle people disagreeing with you.

That's always the case here. We're so addicted we've spent the entire development cycle of Pantheon (several lifetimes) posting gifs of people falling over. It's a sad state where just the hint of anything MMO adjacent is all we get to slake our thirst.

I'm sure they plan on getting rid of the box price eventually, and will go a F2P route after the initial interest wanes.

To be fair, EQL is a whole ass MMORPG. The problem is they have made a power fantasy game in a very tiny world, ie EQ Vanilla. If DBG weren't cracking the whip the smart play would have been to have Kunark out at the same time minimum, so people have multiple zones to play in at every level. I would also have liked to see them use the quest tracking system. That would be a great way to make new content, even within the old world context.

I just feel like they're missing the boat but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe its the right approach for their business. I'm actually arguing/debating they can make more money (long-term) with a different approach but that's an outside perspective looking in. They're going to get my money.. I just think they could offer their player base a greater opportunity to play and in turn have greater opportunity to be compensated / patronized by keeping the door open.

I agree on the long term profits of a non-sub model. But, I assume they want a quick pop of money to pay off things on the acquisition and development side, then the model might change over time.

That's why these threads go like this though. We can see the nugget that if they'd do it right, would be successful. We want these games to succeed. And every time they fuck it up.

I don't shit all over MnM because I'm just an asshole and want it to fail. It's because they could've had a game we've all been hungering for and they keep fucking it up with retarded decisions.
