My take on Pal/Mnk/Shm:

It took me three days to go from 10 to 50 using very mid end game gear and 100 AAs. (+2 Russet BP, +5 Skarlon sword, 40% CoF, +3 Innoruuk stuff) Once I had Cannibalization AA I could do any fight in the game on D4. Equipment is very far from BIS (don't even have a healing focus yet) but I beat the isle 6 bee boss, Dojorn, isle 7 Sister on D4. Barely lost to Eye of Veeshan on first attempt and was certain I could do it but had to log. Didn't see the point in trying to beat everything on D4 after this since Sky rewards are quested. CT on D4 is rather easy. On D0 I beat Eye of Veeshan without needing to heal myself because it dies before Evasive runs out.

This trio has massive synergy and sustain. I doubt any other trio will match it. Paladins would be far and away the best tank if not for one drawback: the mana cost of smite is large. But with Cannibalization AA you get a ton of mana in combat. Mage Hunter stance mitigates the HP cost of Cannibalization AA, and warriors do not get Mage Hunter. So with Pal+Shm+Mnk you're LoHing and Canning every 3-4 minutes, with mend on top of this, with Togor's. I finished off a D4 boss once when I was out of gas by FDing it onto my pet for the last 5%. Incredible sustain. This build carries people and I've been doing some of this.

Shamans are the most OP class in the game by a mile. You could put Shaman in any trio and do well. Paladins are the best tank, so SHM+PAL+X will wreck everything. A SK+SHM duo would outperform my SK+DRU+BST trio. Shaman level 45 pets do very close to the amount of damage as beastlord pets. Shamans also get a spell called Spirit of the Puma at level 50, which was added to the game in 2005, and this spell is retarded. It grants a DD proc that does significant DPS. This spell should not exist. Remove this spell and shamans are still the most OP class. If you puma the pet it does way more DPS than beastlord pets.

Higher level shaman slows are SUPER strong on this server for two major reasons: one is it lands on everything, and two it allows you to stay in offensive stance while tanking except the hardest bosses or large pulls. This means that slow directly translates into a large DPS increase. You can tank multiple deep reds at once in offensive stance with shaman slow.

With monk in the trio you can do stuff like malo and slow then FD afterward so your fights start with full debuffs on the mob. Or of you don't want to waste time doing FD debuffing, just Evasive stance while you debuff then swap to defensive after slow lands which I do. FDing debuffs simply isn't necessary. (I did not do this in D4 Sky) Monk allows you to mainhand the paladin high damage 1handers and offhand some monk offhand.

Paladin Pacify makes doing Isle 6 possible and good luck doing this island without lull or mez. Sky on D0 is a cakewalk on this build. You could do the entire zone right after hitting 50 on D0 so long as you had Cannibalization. Mage Hunter stance is also great for Eye of Veeshan.

My prediction is that players will run with PAL+MNK+SHM for solo play then swap to specialized role builds in group play. Although this build is quite high DPS. There's a huge thread in the "neriak" section on the discord with some autist min/maxing this build already.

edit: just discovered that they made Malosi unresistable. insane

They said they are going to add ways to unlock loadouts and deities and more storage slots. How much of a slog that is to be remains to be seen.
Bro them launching the game without that already in screams cash grab.

The game is built around the multi class factor and loadouts are essential to that. They are limiting you to 1 character and retards bought the "Technical reasons" anyone with common sense knows that was bullshit and knew it was simply to add shit to the cashshop.

Certain things just shouldn't be buyable in the cash shop.

They want to lock class and race tokens behind achievements I'm against it but fine it's a form of progression but they're undermining that progression by selling it in the shop. Everyone knows that unlocking classes is going to be a pain in the fucking dick so the odds of people saying fuck this and buying the token are much higher.

Locking loadouts period is fucking scummy. It's on the same level as SWTOR where they were selling hotbar's.

How you guys can defend this is truly beyond me like you'll gladly be like WOW SELLS LEVEL BOOSTS THAT'S BAD! But then be like EQ Legends is selling Race and Class tokens along with loadouts This is okay.

Fucking hypocrite mother fuckers.

Gentlemen the classic area was never the pillar of class balance. In 5 months we will likely have Kunark with epics 1.0 and then this discussion will start over but this time it's "You need to be Magician because" etc.

My one question after checking out a bunch of youtube videos for this: Why do all EQ content creators have speech impediments but love yapping anyway.

That barbarian who made P99 videos is the only one who isn't mildly annoying.

Speaking of Epics, I am quite curious how they handle the +10 version of them. Surely, they dont expect everyone to repeatedly grind the entire quest for each class to max them out.

And when you can do a dozen+ solo Sky clears in a day, that really is pretty quickly.
This is mind numbing after the first time. I don't think anyone actually serious would defend that EVERY class unlock requires completing every sky quest for a class. It's lazy and boring. Same with race unlocks all only being max ally with the racial factions. A moderate take is 'yeah sky is still a terrible gay zone that shouldn't exist in EQ and the devs are lazy for making all of the race/class unlocks exactly the same, but at least they are unlockable in game if you're willing to put up with the cock and ball torture of sky.' The two options that are not lazy/scummy are 'zero class restrictions' or 'different interesting and relevant class unlock mechanisms per class'. Max out pick lock / pick pocket for rogue. Collect a bunch of iconic warrior weapons, etc. If you're going EQ SoD, give class specific stuff to do to unlock classes.

Also saying you can do a dozen clears when you have 1 charge per hour (preloaded with 2) is not a 'casual grind'. That's 10 hours of fucking the exact same zone with trivial bosses to pull a lever on a quest item gacha box so you can hope to get a piece you're missing. It's even worse BECAUSE the quest gear is all base tier so you aren't incentivitzed at all to do it on a higher difficulty to level up sky weapons/items. It won't take you an hour to clear the bosses either, so then you're just waiting on charges even if you wanted to be a degenerate poopsocker and max every charge.

If you are hopeful for the longevity of the game, you should be hoping they change the sky grind. Right now a non-braindead player will get their first trio to 50 (including 24/25 for ritual offclass/ports) in 3-5 days and then if they want to unlock classes they will be forced to sit in a single zone endlessly hoping for random drops. They can do a quick pass on the raid bosses at 45+ once for that first week and then just sit in d0 sky doing the same fights over and over. Who thinks that is fun?

Would be the same as sky weapons. You're getting +0 from quest rewards at the moment so unless they change that somehow, you just have to use motes. The mote system is all confused as well, with the tiers existing, but a way to turn them in to higher tiers, but spells not requiring tiers, etc. It needs a rework for sure. Most likely tiers of motes should just be like plat/gold/silver/copper and just represent different values of xp for dropping purposes (which they do already), but should all act like spells and let you cram any tier in anything.

I agree with the motes pushed into items should work exactly like the spell + mote system. Why do the item motes need to be so complicated.
That said, it should be a quick and easy fix to implement.

In one of their most recent streams, they mentioned they will be introducing special motes that drop once a week from raid targets that will allow you to upgrade an item an entire +X tier. I'm betting those will get used by most people to raise the epics.

Haven't played in over a decade and am having a blast. Going to blow the whole weekend on this. War/Enc is great for dungeon crawling at the low levels I'm at. Third class is my flex spot and going with Druid for now for utility, ports, buffs. Might try out Shd/Enc/Nec for a full int build but Nec/Shd seems redundant but I feel like maybe I need the Nec for bigger lifetaps. Is Bard an int class?

It's been a lot of fun! More different than THJ but in a good way. I feel THJ class combo dominance was fun for awhile but was going to be difficult to maintain interest when you just wipe the floor with everything. As long as they could keep rolling out content but when it stalled, you felt it. People found the meta and burned through content and while I would have played it a really long time, I like the the shift to theorycrafting being more in-depth. The way they have handled upgrading weapons, spells, and various difficulty I think was a good move.

Now, with beta wrapping up, I have some thoughts...
  • The reworked zones are cool but I would have enhanced popular loot instead of adding look. Being able to create instances and modify difficulty level, I think something like the BBC and other drops should be enhanced then you could level it up and increase stats based on the difficulty. Meaning that I could spam 0's or 1's and it take longer to combine and get them up to +10 or whatever or if I can do D4 with friends, I can level it up quicker or maybe even find motes or whatever they're called very specific to the difficulty level. I'm not a fan of having random pieces of studded leather ending up being better than plan gear. Just up the popular loot and if you want to add loot along the name naming would help with the nostalgia and lore. Maybe Befallen drops Thaumaturgist gear and rings in addition to the robe. Maybe their a Bone-bladed sheild, etc.
  • Make buffs persistent... maybe until death but I don't understand the buff timers. I think we're beyond that. Keeping up with 18 min, 30 min, 5 min buffs is not necessary. I like how THJ handled that but I may be in the minority.
  • Going back to gear, and maybe they'll address this with Luclin if they decide to release it, I'm fine with gear being No Drop and the one trade in dungeons is a nice touch but I think items should be "Auctionable". EQ Economy is part of the social aspect of the game. I think it would help level up items, encouraged tradeskilling, etc. I think they should somehow allow you to create an Auction mode and that be the only way items could be exchanged. I'm sure that could be exploited in some way and against their approach but I miss East Commons and that interaction amongst players. What you stand to gain may not be worth it with implementing this system into the game but I think it has its place in a MMO and I also believe there's a way to make it work.
That's really my only thoughts. I do feel bards need a little love and mages will be in a better place with Kunark but overall the only real critique I have is how they're adding equipment that really doesn't feel like part of the game and how it impacts character progression.

Overall, we are having an absolute blast and looking forward to release.

I’d wager item upgrades are more impactful and powerful and therefore need to be slower to upgrade. I’m ok with that.

Pal is definitely OP here. Plate, pal weapons, lull, loh+smite, self haste, slay undead + nife, heals just under shm/dru, defensive AND mage hunter, etc all in one package. Just stupid good. I just rolled a pal/enc/Bst and you’re able to put a point into slay just in time for Befallen. Was farming the 28 d2 baron at 15 lol. Still can’t believe Ranger doesn’t get mage hunter but zerker does.

I don't care about WOW selling level boosts. In that game all your achievements and faction are account wide now. Leveling to max level is trivial. But yeah, if someone wants a shortcut, they can flash their cash at it.

The loadout thing is a minor annoyance for now. I will wait to see how they implement the achievements before I get my hackles raised. But the races and primary class unlocks were expected. The race unlocks in game are pretty damn easy. Murder lots of shit, or tradeskill some shit, or buy alcohol and do mass turnins. The class unlocks are just a matter of running sky and doing quests. After your first go around to 50 you should know from talking with people what some of the metas are. If your first primary was something not in any of the current ones, well, now you have a free unlock to build one that is for round 2.

The way sky is implemented for solo is crazy easy. The only thing you might be missing by 46 is a decent weapon. Given that you can dumpster dive exceptionally good weapons in befallen, bb, najena, and now paw too, that is something of a non starter. But once you have all your keys for sky it really is as simple as having the list I linked earlier to the sky quests, pick whatever quests you want to focus on, and just walk in and destroy those mobs. Rinse and repeat. You can get to each and every island with invis. Send the quest items to your dragon hoard, and there is a bank in the quest room to do the quests. You never need to clear islands other than when doing your initial keying. Bosses can be done in their little huts or with a little patience on getting them alone in the open.

It will be tedious, but getting class unlocks done is easy as pie. The tedium may drive sales, but for an OG EQ player that farmed for months to get a single epic done that isn't even a challenge. You can do 2 runs in 30 minutes. Then go do other stuff for 90 min to get charges back, then do it again. If you're going to min/max it.

I've been doing a thing where I level to 11 without buying any spells, then check the vendors. This gives me a list of optional buys so I can shop ahead of time and get the stuff I might miss ahead of time. It is cool that they snagged that from M&M that you can scribe future scrolls ahead of time.

If there are better lists out there I'd like to know. I don't really plan on painfully leveling to 20 in this manner.

Also: I really want to optionally have a cool deity like Veeshan or something, but I dunno if it is worth it to have a class I dislike (Bard) as my primary.

Not sure diety will ever matter here.

I pre-purchase spells 10 levels at a time. Makes it easier to keep adventuring and progressing, then pop into town about every 10 levels for downtime and spells again.
