Ok I had to go back to the wayback machine for this, but this is fun EQ history. About my example of swiming naturally going up in a troll's noob lands being a swamp and the game play advantage it gave me. This is from Bohica's Lair a VERY OLD shaman website from the dawn of EQ:

Wayback Machine

Maybe some of you day 1 shamans remember his site. He was my pvping budy back then, when most of rallos role played and it was a lot of good vs evil.

So you're a larping pvp guy... starting to make sense

What is the point of the game if you don't enjoy your character and try to get into the atmosphere of the world?? PvP adds to that, you can kill someone that offends you instead of sending them nasty /tells

Because the players (like children and adults for that matter) gravitate towards the path of least resistance and the quick fix. But its never as satisfying long term. See the last decade and a half of revolving shit MMOs spring up and die over and over.

There is a reason Brad and co. said you were in THEIR world now.

The joy of accomplishment has to be tempered with some kind of investment in it. A "thank god this is over" feeling only goes so far. People feel good about finishing allying a faction, but feel a lot more accomplished at completing a long quest or getting a rare drop.

Skillups, being amongst the least interactive, prove among the least satisfaction. An exception is something like a tradeskill - more involved, tangible outputs, feels good man. Tedium IS useful but should only be used heavily as a gating mechanism when it also is either interactive (tradeskills, and thats gonna get me some backlash even here) or it has tangible outcomes (a casino type game with a rare random chance). Raising sense heading by binding to left arrow? Lame.

I can't enjoy a good game of axis and allies unless I can hear the shower running and smell the oven on.

Exactly my point. Slow xp and slow skill ups are the barrier to overcome for increased power. PLing circumvents this. afk automated powerleveling (or afk automated skill ups) corrupts this. Now another barrier has been removed, all hail the trivial skill ups that give the player EVEN LESS reason to actively play.

I distinctly recall people playing alts, lowbie alts, actively because they did not want to deal with the painfully slow skill ups later on.

Axis and Allies was very different in the early versions when the Brits only had 1 infantry unit in Africa. Germany could quickly shitstomp Africa and build up large stockpiles of resources. Later versions fixed it.

Miserable skill gain was one of the worst artifacts still left in the game and I will not miss it.

Earning xp is far more interactive than skilling up. The actions that result in xp also result in other outcomes, either quest completion or a dead monster to check for loot. Skilling up is the result of a simple action, often a single button click. Tradeskills, being the result of investment and with outout, fell more in the xp camp as a result. People could enjoy skilling them up and feel accomplished rather than just relieved when complete. In short, most skills are boring tedium.

Using skills as a stick to punish plvling is just stupid.

One is a role playing game by design. One is not.

Role playing in a non-personal setting is fucking stupid and you are proof. Our resident furries are even fine, but no. Not the roleplayer.

Why does nobody else seem to care about the very serious Germany nerf in later editions of Axis and Allies.

And for all you nerds complaining about roleplayers. They make the game vastly more interesting. At least they did, I don't think they exist anymore. Another consequence of speeding up the game(s).

I play the 50th anniversary edition. Germany is fine in 1941. Ive only ever played where the UK had its dudes in egypt and also in SA and your homeland.

I enjoy the roleplayers when I get a bacon wrapped turkey leg and play archery tag at the ren faire. They're fun. In everquest, roleplayers are generally horse shit at the game and/or deliberately playing poorly on purpose as an act.

On paradox plaza "roleplaying" is the term used for people who self-handicap themselves for whatever reason. Fine for a huge single player game. Garbage in a cooperative multiplayer context. Roleplayers are the worst.

I should walk back my previous posts. For a roleplayer, clicking a button repeatedly might actually be challenging enough to give a real sense of accomplishment, and skillups actualy made you feel good.

So to bring this back on track ...

I could have sworn i read this somewhere, but can't find it now. The rate of exp on selos will be comparable to the exp rate on live?

They said it's going to be about twice of what it was on Ragefire and Lockjaw which is a little slower than Live. There's also the expectation that during the anniversary that there will also be a period of bonus exp.

Is the anniversary that weekend? I saw the expectation about the bonus since it has happened before.

Yep, the actual 20 year anniversary is March 16th so all the times would line up. I don't know if there has been an official announcement regarding bonus exp though.
