I have a PS5. How does the upgrade work if I buy the PS 4 version? Suppose I can just Google this…

Buy this: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE upgrade for PS4™ version owners then go to the game, click the ... button, select versions, and tell it to install the PS5 version.

If you have a physical copy for PS4, you might not need to do the first step. It's been a while since I upgraded mine and I'm going from memory.

I never got this on the PS4 as I never play on it anymore. But 85 dorrah for the game on PC here in europe seems a bit steep...

Lmao can’t believe the FF7 remake thread became the place for nerds to talk about how much 16yr old puss they crushed back in 1997.

Or in my case, the total and complete lack of 16 year old puss I crushed.

Just be sure you choose PS5 in "Select Game Version" on the home screen before you play it. Sometimes I think it resets for some reason. Before I realized this, I accidentally played a couple games in their PS4 forms rather than their PS5 upgrades, because I thought it just automatically upgraded them.

Now I prefer to just get the PS5 versions of things and not mess around with it.

I came back to final fantasy 7 a few times over my life. My favorite was about 5 years ago I did it in one sitting with no saves. I can’t remember the exact time it took me to do it but it was less than 12 hours

Yeah, when it comes to cross-gen Series S|X has Smart Delivery and PS5 has Full Retard Delivery. It's a by-product of Sony charging for upgrades, so there has to be an addon you need to search for and buy (whether it's $0 or $10) for every game that's cross-gen. MS doesn't allow anyone to charge for upgrades period (at least I can't think of a single example) so their cross-gen system can actually be 'smart'.

You shouldn't have to choose a version when you play though, that'd mean you're wasting double(ish) the space by having both versions installed at the same time. Just make sure you only ever install the PS5 versions to begin with.

Yeah, I just installed Elder Scrolls Online, 80 GB. It had this big thing that was like "Free PS5 upgrade", 100 GB. I didn't have room for both and suspected I could just get the PS5 upgrade without having the PS4 version, so I deleted the 80 GB one and installed the 100 GB one. Works fine, has [PS5] next to it instead of [PS4]. Not sure why it even let me get the PS4 version at all. Whole thing is weird.

At least Sony's system-naming makes sense, unlike Microsoft and their One / Series / X / S gobbledygook.

Microsoft didn’t want the Xbox 2 to compete against the PlayStation 3 so they went with Xbox 360 and have been using random names since.

Yep, and then with PS4, the rumored next Xbox was Xbox 720, but that'd make people think of 720p, which was already subpar with PS4 being 1080p across the board, so they went with another stupid name.

Then for PS5 they couldn't go Xbox Two, even though "One" set that up...

Same reason iPhone skipped that one number to catch up with Samsung Galaxy.

Microsoft should have just given one of the side-upgrades a number to "catch up". Like have the XB1 be the XB3 and the XB1 X be the XB4. Yeah, X was basically their One Pro, but go ahead and give it its own number. It worked for the Wii U, sort of. Then the new one could be 5.

Well, whatever, I'm not a Microsoft guy. I have an OG Xbox (the very first one) and that's it. It's good for some exclusive stuff like the KOTORs.

So apparently if you have ever installed the PS5 upgrade for PS4 physical copy, you cannot access the free upgrade for the PS+ version. I thought I had mine all setup properly but as it turns out all I did was delete the old install and it downloaded the exact same thing again and still demands I put in the disc.

Seems like the only way you can fix it is to contact support with the transaction id for when you first bought the physical edition upgrade and get them to cancel it and remove it from your account. Calling Sony's cross-gen system Full Retard Delivery was being far too kind.

Edit: Support must be getting a lot of complaints about this, the rep immediately knew what I was going to ask as soon as I started explaining the issue. Got the physical upgrade license revoked, then I had to sit through my PS5 restoring 1500+ licenses, but in the end I was able to add the PS+ upgrade version to my library and it no longer asks for the disc. Good thing I don't have a data cap, I wasted close to 400GB of downloads trying to get this shit to work.

jesus christ, this game is horribly, literally a button masher

a really really slow slog with aerith!

fucking escort missons, i though we got rid of them?

also fucking puzzles? but worse, it's really just hold triangle for 20s for no reason

i'm playing it and i'm like "jesus christ this is annoying and stupid" and my wife chimes in "oh the aerith part? yea it really sucks, oh and its not going to be over for a long time"

who liked this game?

Maybe it's just not for you. FF7R is one of the best games of the last few years IMO, I am so happy and surprised how well it turned out and am looking forward to the next one.

The puzzles were simple and annoying. Pressing the button at exactly the right time type crap. However that stuff existed in the first game, so them throwing it in there was probably just a call back to the originals shitty mini games.

I would have been much happier with the combat if you could swap materia in battle. Everything being set up to be slow as fuck unless you happened to have the right materia equipped was fucking horrible. Making it so you could inspect the mob or figure out the right one then equip it would have been much more enjoyable.

jesus christ, i'm slogging through this game on my final farewell to aerith and i'm dealing with the fucking arm "puzzle" shit.

it's not really a puzzle at all, just fucking time wasters...

i'm playing and my wife looks up and says "your still with aerith?, oh god the fucking arms"
