I like him. If you're an ADD kid who craves excessive reactions, then you won't like him. If you enjoy someone who really immerses himself in the experience, is constantly trying to predict where the story is going, frequently has insights that you didn't think of yourself, and is guaranteed not to miss anything, then he's good to watch.

He knows about Amaurot because he predicted it, it was named by Emet-Selch in the quest where you see the cave drawings. It's an example of his methodical note taking and insight. When the game bugged and he saw the city, he knew what it was immediately.

He is, however, a sensitive little bitch who constantly whines about his audience, and melted down and ended stream when he failed hard in the Ivalice raids.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has some kind of autism.

Now Rich Campbell, that's a shit streamer.
The reactions isn't the biggest thing, he reacts interestingly sometimes (just not yesterday).

He just doesn't seem to have any concept of him being entertainment and that people are tuning in to see big moments, so he just wasted my fucking time on all the pointless shit he was doing that wasn't entertaining.

I don't watch streamers often, but I'm not there to see a random guy go about his day and play like I would, I want to see either some personality or competent gameplay.

I don't belive that he predicted Amerout either, Emet explains about how it was destroyed and I don't think there was any indication that he had Zanarkanded it on the sea floor until you get to the zone.

He actually predicted several times that he would be going to the city. He thought it would be somewhere on the source though, somewhere we had never been before, so he got that wrong.

He's a thinking man's streamer. He must be doing something right. Compared to Zepla he averages 5x to 10x more viewers and subs, so he can't be that bad.

His draw is his insights. I recommend giving his youtube videos a watch rather than his stream, it's a more condensed form of his stream. Also I don't watch him live - I playback his stream later so I can skip ahead if he starts playing with a dog, or leaves the room. Like I said, dude probably has some kind of high-functioning autism, but that's what gives him the savant level insight and predictions and what makes him such a good lorekeeper.

I can't fault the guy for wanting to play the game his way. No one has to watch him and he's not under any obligation to make it interesting or to cater to people if he doesn't want to.

I do however think he treats his audience like crap, and has very thin skin. I'd never give him money but I will watch him.

That's another whole thing, these streamers are barely making any videos out of the 100s of hours of streams they produce.

Yeah, there's basically no one I actually watch streaming live. If it's one I enjoy, I'll watch clips off YouTube and I just watch the daily Lulu highlights which for the most part catches anything important someone's hitting story-wise (though, it comes with the baggage of dumb Haru Hissatsu, Snackkys, or Faeruna clips among other things that are annoying).

Sebbywebz runs some pretty funny voices as well sometimes. But yeah, mostly can check it on YouTube clips or highlight reels.

Asmon's basically the only person I watch live, currently, since he just goes on random tangents talking about shit while playing. Will be nice when he goes back to the main channel.

Pyro is kind of a cunt. He's always scolding his chat and acting all hypersensitive and shit. Really not fun to watch. People are only watching him because of his WoW meltdown to see the lore fag while he's doing the 'most emotional' part of the story.

The whole Amaurot thing showed he was spoiled/read ahead when planning his stream. When he said 'guess we're going to Amaurot at the bottom of the ocean' like right after the Innocent fight, a mod or someone in chat said how do you know about Amaurot and he was cartoonishly like pulling on the neck of his shirt and sweating while looking left and right. Unless you are autistic yourself you can see a human being who got caught in some shit and was trying to backtrack about how Emet said the word Amaurot 15 hours ago and so that means he
recreated Amaurot at the bottom of the ocean
, it's so obvious!

He also was yelling about how he was 100% going to finish 5.0 that night (with Tempest ahead of him) and that it was still early, only to end his stream an hour later.

edit: Also watching cutscenes without auto-advance and writing down notes is the most soulless way to play the game. Dude is all facts and no feels. Go write all your stupid nerd shit down offstream watching the cinematics in the inn you mong.

Honestly all the streamers for this game are catering to a very specific audience. I have to ask my wife to put on her headphones when she's watching some of these twats because of just how whiney they sound, wife turned off Rich, thank god, because of just how much he complains. She still watches Pyro and Zepla though, zepla being the undisputed worst of the 2 since I know more about her through osmosis. Only thing I know about pyros is that people get salty at him for actually playing the game and not just main story content, which I find amazingly funny. "FUCK YOU PYRO WE WANT YOU TO PLAY THE GAME NOT THE REST OF THE GAME!"

All this doesn't make FFXIV a bad game, but the audience basically jerks it to react content which I find pointless because if I like watching something, I'll watch the thing I enjoy, not some rando on the internet enjoying what I enjoy. If I jerk off to a porn and I like that porn, I don't go and watch someone on the internet jerking off to that same porn.

As to why these streamers are popular, people hate interacting with and forming connections to real people so they latch on to a personality that likes the same thing they do in the vain hopes that some fantasy of theirs plays out with their content. Combine that with FFXIV being a "bastion" for LGBT people and sexual deviants and it really isn't a shocker that these beta streamers, that don't really offer much in the way of content, are popular. It really makes me wonder on what is gunna happen with the million+ people coming from WoW to FFXIV and how the Alphabet soup people will react to that. Getting more and more people in my groups with much different attitudes than before.

savant level insight and predictions

This game isn't hard to predict.

I really sincerely urge you NOT to predict this game though because it'll ruin your immersion after you predict every plot-point and the game becomes a "Click through the dialogue" simulator.

Take the last zone in Endwalker:

Did people really think they were gunna kill off the scions?

Honestly if they did I would have been super impressed with the staff, being that willing to pursue a bigger story element at the cost of characters they built over years.

As I went through the area, I really wanted to stay in the tone, emotionally, of "these people are gone" all the way up to the point where y'shtola breaks the tone and said "Yo you can summon us back but don't." they should have left that shit out and just let people stay in the emotional toll of their losses. At that point I'm sitting there going, "Oh cool, we are bringing everyone back, what a shocker". It's like getting a christmas present from someone and you know, KINDA, what they are gunna get you, but then before you unwrap it they are like, "Yeah I really thought it would be helpful for your kitchen" and what minor speculation that remained is now completely gone.

Really though, writing of today is so pedantic, marketing goes into every decision. The audience for FFXIV takes change so poorly that they had to have golden boy emet-selch do a exposition dump about why it's okay for this shit to be over because the player hasn't even experienced everything the game plans to do, essentially dumping their plans for the future on the player in a nearly 4th wall breaking dialogue dump.

Did you predict the last two EW zones?

Most people just want to reexperience 5.0/5.3 while sharing it with someone else who is seeing it for the first time. People who watch outside of that should be considered suspect.

Did you predict the last two EW zones?

Mmm in what way, that I knew the zone names? Because no, I don't do that level of lore.

As for Elpis, I knew we were going back to the time of the ascians prior to being actually told that we were, I knew how it would end because time travel is hyper autistic and if you don't end it in a very certain way, you will open a ton of plot-holes. I found the story of Hermes to be somewhat laughable, all powerful, intelligent being forgot to tell his doomsday machine "Bro, don't kill things that can't answer your question, if the civilization doesn't WANT to answer our survey, then let them select "Opt Out" and then omit them from future surveys."

For ultima Thule, it's pretty standard, you are going to a final zone for a final boss. It's like the lead up to the Black Citadel, or Ice Crown, or nearly any other game that has a tiered progression system. I didn't expect the hammering home of virtue in the last instance since the whole zone was hammering that home already. "LOOK AT ALL THESE FACTIONS THAT DIED! THEY DIED BECAUSE OF THE REASONS WE TOLD YOU ABOUT EARLIER!" Thank you, I missed that lore, I wasn't aware they died because of the things you told me about in every quest leading up to this point in the last zone.

didn’t expect it to be dogshit

Ehh Dogshit is a bit much, predictability is certainly there though. Oh and emotional manipulation to maintain dependence.

The last conversation before the final run to the end was telling that their audience isn't very emotionally stable. "Hey guys, a lot of change is about to happen with this era of plot points, but it's cool, relax and you may enjoy the rest of the game." it was almost like the director, not the NPC, was talking to the audience and not the character trying to reassure them that they may still like the game even after THE CHARACTER THAT DOES THE DUMP is gone

"Final zone building up to final boss like Icecrown and Black Temple" isn't a prediction, it's a very loose observation about RPG tropes.

Labyrinthos was dogshit I agree (not including the dungeon) and the first half of Thavnir was just standard stuff, but anyone who found the other 75% of the story to be predictable or dogshit has something wrong with them. Not going into spoilers but predictable is the opposite of what this was.

Also... emotional manipulation... what like a work of fiction? If you need to deconstruct the concept of storytelling itself to shit on the story then I'm lost for words.

Now if you want to say that there wasn't enough gameplay between story beats and it's too much for an MMO, I agree. But if ARR didn't filter you then that's your own fault.

not to defend his spergery , or say he didn't self spoil to look smart, but on a stream uhh...i guess in amarang. he was like "okay cool. now we'll go do eulmore and that will be the end. and his chat was like "no way, six zones bro, you have one more. go look at the map". and one of pyro's autistisms is that if some one says something he MUST LOOK. its like some sort of fae bound to behaviour. so then he opened his map. looked at the outline of the tempest. zoomed in, looked at the landmark pins, and spent like 40 minutes complaining about being spoiled then theorycrafting himself into a hole..

so i dunno if some one also spoiled amoraut, but he began to behave like some one in an Mnight shamalong movie waiting for M night to play the most important character and reveal a twist to him.

Direct VoD dumps usually don’t get many views. Editing takes time and money. If the time+money part exceeds what you get back in as dollars, then it isn’t worth it

it seems like most streamers just get a goon to do it for them. they make a bargain that some one else can edit the vids, post them. harvest (half? some ? all?) the money so that they get more people clued in that they exist.

also i'm super baffled pyro takes real time notes and doesn't just either hit screen shot, or watch the vods later. but i guess he intends to spend as little of his work time possible at it? i dunno.

Map almost got me in EW, I knew which continent the final zone was on because the continent map had a massive gap in it. I had no idea what it could be though until the end of the lv87 dungeon.
